Travel & Tourism Case Studies
“A great brand isn’t just something you choose, it’s something you feel. It’s that personal connection that forms in the hearts and minds of your customer. It’s an emotional reaction to a product, it’s packaging, name or image. That reaction sparks a decision and that decision can influence behavior. This is where we come in.”Colin Downing - Strategic Director
Redfire is an interdisciplinary brand communications agency and works seamlessly across a variety of traditional and emerging media for a diverse range of clients. We offer a wealth of experience and talent in the travel and tourism sector that spans naming, brand development, creative design, marketing, advertising, research, packaging, emerging media and the web.
We’re a professional and experienced team who are passionate brand builders and keen to work with clients who are looking for something fresh, innovative and functional, to deliver tangible results.
Redfire
Our experienceWe work with a diverse range of clients from travel & tourism to gourmet food, from wine to designer furniture, from small business to large corporates. We’ve worked with some great travel and tourism brands like United Travel, Ski Traveller, Ace Rental Cars, Cavalier Travel, 360 Discovery, Travel Solutions International (TSI), and Quest Hotels to name a few.
We know the industry is very competitive and successful businesses need an effective creative brand strategy to compete in today’s marketplace. We’ll help you stand out.
The overall process we use to define and determine our approach to building brands is our in house branding tool – Brand Evolva.
Brand Evolva establishes a holistic, yet scalable approach to brand building and aims to deliver an approach that ensures all key elements or drivers of your brand are evaluated to deliver a cohesive and integrated brand experience.

Here’s a few case studies of our strategic and creative work in the travel and tourism sector.
Client: Kiwi Kat Cruises LtdBrand: Formerly Kawau Kats now 360 DiscoveryTask: Naming, brand identity and brand executionRegion: National (NZ)Our Work:NamingBrand identityBrand architectureMarketing collateralChannel marketingWebsite AdvertisingEnvironmental branding
When we asked our client how the new brand name, identity and marketing collateral was working for them they said “It’s like we have just been found”. Kawau Kat Cruises had an established brand that had been around for 14 years.
Kawau Kat needed to reinvent themselves and the challenge was to determine what brand value existed. Redfire was faced with updating their existing brand identity or to totally change their name and create a new identity. Our internal Brand Evolva research showed there was some brand recognition, however the brand was now not relevant to the offer and focussed on the “boat fleet”.
The brand confused the local consumer and did not effectively market the experience to the international tourist.
REDFIRE determined through market analysis that the key objective should focus the brand towards the experience. The key was to sell, market and brand the “EXPERIENCE”.
The drive was to continue to build local consumers and more importantly target the international tourist with a focus on “Soft Adventures”. REDFIRE developed a new name - 360 Discovery that was engaging and emotional. It was centred around the premise of going on an adventure, to discover and experiencing something new.
306 Discovery has recently been acquired by Fullers and the brand continues to grow.
It’s like we’ve just been found
Client: Ski Traveller LtdBrand: Ski TravellerTask: New Brand LaunchRegion: Australasia (Main distribution NZ & Australia)Our Work:Brand identityMarketing collateralTrade displaysWebsite AdvertisingEnvironmental brandingEmerging media - blog Adwords campaign
The Ski Traveller team entered a competitive niche market with the knowledge that the main players would fight to protect their market share. They had to offer something different and be more innovative than the rest. The result was to build the business from their brand up and focus on their brand philosophy of offering the ultimate experience. This includes all touch points through to the unique products, resorts, and partnerships they have forged.
REDFIRE worked very closely with the key management to determine their identity, positioning and brand execution into the market.
The launch has rocketed Ski Traveller into the forefront of the industry on both a local and global scale.
Given the nature of the target market, REDFIRE uses both traditional and emerging media to build the brand profile as well as cost effectively communicate to their Australasian client base.
Ski Traveller has very quickly established itself as a leading agency for the ultimate snow holiday.

Travel Solutions International (TSI) is a new global network partnership that focuses on bringing consistency, clarity and standards to the management of travel expenditure across international markets for the corporate traveller.
The network is an exclusive collection of privately owned travel management companies with partners in the UK, USA, India, China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Nigeria, United Arab Emirates, New Zealand and Australia.
REDFIRE worked with the guiding principal based in the UK to develop the new global brand. The key was to capture the essence of travel without boundaries.
We used graphical elements to describe the global network as well showing energy and flight. It is a positive device depicting freedom, weightlessness, revitalisation and spirit. Each component within the wing device symbolises the global partnership that comes together to provide a total solution.
It’s a great feeling when a New Zealand based company like ours gets a rap from all the global partners on both the quality of our design and communications work, through to achieving results in tight time frames.

Refreshing a corporate travel brandGiven the fact that Cavalier Travel has heritage and have operated for over 25 years in corporate travel we had to ensure the rebranding project we were undertaking did not alienate their existing client base, however was appealing and encouraged new business and growth potential.
We used our Brand Evolva process to clearly define the Cavalier Travel audience, both current and future targets, positioning, brand personality and unique proposition. This lead the way for development of their brand identity, which was then transferred onto a new look website, corporate collateral, marketing collateral and advertising.
Due to the nature of the travel business, quick and easy communication was vital for Cavalier to communicate with their client base. We built their website with an integrated blog news function, as well as a fully integrated newsletter writing, editing and delivery system that was traditionally done through a third party. The website is also kept up to date with a comprehensive Content Management System (CMS), allowing Cavalier staff the ability to easily update or make changes to their website on an immediate basis.

The local travel market is cluttered with many players generally offering the same deal and packages. This means visual communications plays a huge role in enticing and attracting customers.
United Travel Remuera approached Redfire with the need to refresh their corporate and advertising collateral. It was important to visually cut through the competition and communicate clearly and concisely to their target market.
Utilizing their existing brand look and feel we developed a sub brand, specifically for United Travel Remuera and utilised strong visuals and imagery to reinforce the relaxed holiday proposition.
The new creative was then applied to corporate collateral material and used in conjunction with new advertising layouts.

EXPERIENCE THE ROYAL HERITAGE OF THE
It is impossible to detail the three incredible weeks we had in Delhi, Agra and Rajasthan. We had three superb hosts, Durga pratap sinh (Chuck) Sisodia, the Maharaj of Pratapgarh, his daughter Ambika, and nephew Sanjay Singh. We appreciated that in India to organize a tour such as this without problems is nothing short of a miracle and their impeccable connections had us dining with members of the Rajasthan royal families, given a special lecture on Indian miniature paintings, entertained by dancers and fi reworks, enjoying a silver service barbeque in a formal garden in the desert and having a pooja performed by the holy men during the religious festival at Pushkar. Lyndy Sainsbury, Auckland
I now have the most marvelous memories of India & the gorgeous variety of land, life, architecture & people. Everything was well organised by you, Ambika & Sanjay. You gave us a happy & healthy time together.Lady Phillipa Tait, Auckland
What a wonderful trip you all gave us. I am still raving to everyone about it, as it was so magical.Anna Bidwill, Auckland

Register your interest for a truly memorable tour of Israel, with Peter Bolot and his wife Shifra Horn, who divide their time between Auckland and Jerusalem. Shifra is a 7th generation “sabra” (Israeli), majored in biblical studies and anthropology, and is acknowledged as one of Israel’s fi nest writers.
Inclusions:• 12 nights accommodation 4´ or 5´• Air-conditioned private vehicle• Arrival/departure transfers on group basis• Fully escorted from arrival Israel by Peter Bolot and
Shifra Horn• Government accredited english-speaking guide throughout• Sightseeing and entrance fees as specifi ed in itinerary• Gratuities • Breakfast daily, 2 lunches, 7 dinnersNote: excludes airfares to/from Israel.
Israel has a plethora of historic sites - a country combining the past with the present, East with West and the old with the new. With its wonderful museums, narrow alleys, vibrant markets, fascinating traditions and ancient history, our tour is designed to inspire and impress. We will show you the sights that make Israel a unique and intriguing destination. To ensure you have a true Israeli experience, we include a hosted Sabbath meal shared with local personalities, and a two-night stay on a kibbutz.
I was a reluctant starter on the 2006 trip to Israel, the usual excuses, a long way, was it safe? Well I went: and I was wrong on all the above.
It is an amazing experience, and I have not been to, and suspect I will never visit, a capital city as special as Jerusalem.
Peter Bolot and Shifra Horn are gracious hosts showing the land and the people they love; Israel.
The accommodation is excellent, the small group form a friendly compatible tour. Our guide was knowledgeable on all religious groups who call Israel their holy land. I am Christian, and Tanya fulfi lled all that I could wish for in a guide through Israel.
Thank you Peter and Shifra for taking me on board.
