[re]imagine

What does it mean to redefine age? Our world is changing more rapidly than ever before, and the new era of health care reform and integrated service delivery has shifted the traditional approach to the business of caring for older adults.

Change is inevitable and constant. Great leaders don’t simply hang on and hope to survive. They face challenges head on, forging new pathways for service delivery, seeking new partnerships and reinventing the old models they have

relied upon in the past. Great leaders see opportunity in the midst of change and the opportunity to redefine age at every turn.

At this year’s Conference, we will take a strategic look at how we can seize opportunity and lead our organizations to greatness. We will also be shaking things up a bit. While you will experience the high level speakers and thought provoking presentations you have come to expect at our annual conference, we will also be adding more, offering five specific dynamic learning tracks targeted to members of your dietary, chaplain, resident services, CNA, and marketing teams.

In addition for the first time this year we will also be using a conference “app” to ensure that attendees have the latest information about educational sessions, conference activities and special demonstration and dine around activities sponsored by our strategic partners. This application will allow you to learn about speakers and sessions, map out your day’s events and strategically plan your conference experience. All the while, we will honor our traditions of greeting old friends, meeting new acquaintances and enjoying comfortable camaraderie in a new venue - St. Louis.

We are so glad you are here to relax, rejuvenate, and redefine age with LeadingAge Missouri.

Three days of a rich exchange of creative and practical ideas to advance your mission

[pre-conference workshop]Armed Intruder – Do You Have a Plan, and Does it Work? (3.0 Admin)Presenter: Paul Fennewald, Center for Education Safety

Conducting an armed intruder/active shooter drill in your facility can seem overwhelming and expensive, but it doesn’t have to be. Paul Fennewald who is with the Missouri Center for Education Safety has been working with law enforcement officials to develop effective, standardized templates which support both law enforcement and facility staff to prepare for such an event. This presentation will share his insight and how the templates can be used by you and your staff to better prepare for such an incident.

The templates and this training embrace current “best practices” on the staff actions and reactions, should an incident occur, both before and during a public safety response to the situation. The active shooter drills template will facilitate evaluation of specific capabilities such as communications within your organization and between staff and public safety and others in a crisis. The templates will tie the drills, which can have several different scenarios, to your facility overall emergency plan, and insure lessons learned from the drills enhance the existing emergency plan.

[RE] Defining Age Through Technology (1.0 PC)Keynote Speaker: Jack YorkLets take a walk down memory lane, looking at how technology has impacted our day to day lives, with a tongue and cheek contrast as to how that compares to the evolution of technology into senior living. The underlying message, presented with dozens of powerful stories and video examples, is that today’s off the shelf technology provides thousands of ways to engage older adults, regardless of any physical or cognitive

disabilities, wherever they are in the continuum. Examples of technology as a tool to impact ALL residents – from independent older adults all the way to people with late stage dementia – are highlighted in poignant, powerful and enlightening ways. There is a look at the past, a look at the present and a look into the future. The audience will see upbeat ways to cost effectively transform the lives of the residents being served.Objectives:1. Demonstrate multiple examples of technologies that improve the quality of life for all older

adults regardless of any physical or cognitive disabilities2. Show how technology can be a tool to help redefine aging across the continuum3. Provide various case studies of organizations throughout the country that have utilized

person centered technology to enhance their activity and therapy programming

[Re] Thinking our Relationships: Moving from Games to Being Real (1.0 Admin)Presenter: Daniel DeVilder, St Luke’s HospitalHow we relate to our patients and family members is often influenced by long-standing ways we have learned to relate in key relationships in our lives. All our relationships can be affected this way, whether in personal or professional settings. Transactional Analysis principles give us a tool to look at our patterns of relating and put us in a position to act more intentionally and move away from “games” and superficiality into more transparent, less anxious, and as appropriate, more intimate relationships.Objectives:1. Cyber Crime and Payment Fraud Trends (1.0 Admin)Presenters: Mark Eich, CliftonLarsonAllen LLP and Darrell Songer, CliftonLarsonAllen LLPOrganizations and businesses that typically have not thought themselves at risk for cyber-attacks are being targeted like never before. Online payment fraud targeting wire transfers, ACH, and credit cards is increasing at an alarming rate. Banks have become increasingly sophisticated and savvy with their defensive measures and hackers have learned that targeting them directly has become increasingly difficult. Bank customers (“you”) by comparison are often much less prepared and offer easier targets. Attackers therefore are now targeting banks’ clients in an effort to access bank funds by attacking these online payment methods. Losses are significant, often uninsured, and in some cases even result in business failure.Objectives:1. Discuss the threat landscape2. Understand common attack methods3. Provide critical insight as to how businesses can effectively address this emerging threat.
