WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT PROFESSIONAL Certificate and Apprenticeship | Sacramento | 9 months

Workforce development professionals — in private, nonprofit and public sectors — work in increasingly complicated environments and for years, many have voiced the concern over a lack of standardized training or a professional credential.

The College of Continuing Education (CCE) worked with partners in government, workforce development, labor and education to establish a much-needed standard through a professional development program.

“This original program has given me the skills I need to take on every aspect of workforce development and to succeed in this field. Armed with new and upgraded skills, I was hired by CWA.

With this program in place, California’s workforce system is positioned to be the envy of the nation in efficiency, productivity, strategy, and most importantly job placement.”

“I live more than three hours away from Sacramento. I am a single parent, work full-time and don’t have a lot of family support in terms of caring for my child. So an online program has proven more convenient. Quality is another reason I chose Sac State’s online program. It is one of very few completely online programs from a California State University.

I would absolutely recommend the program to anyone who requires or just desires the convenience of online courses toward their degree, especially for those who may work full-time, have families to care for, live out of the area, but want a quality education from a reputable university.”

–Jullanar Williams, paralegal Tulare County District Attorney’s Office

PARAMEDIC Sacramento | 1 year Apply by July 17 for the Fall 2018 program!

The mission of this program is to provide excellent and innovative education that prepares paramedics to meet the needs of a diverse community. Our students are prepared for roles as clinicians, advocates, educators and leaders in the changing prehospital health care system. Classes are taught by active paramedics who currently work in the field, representing all disciplines.

Students in this program will master anatomy and physiology, cardiology, respiration, general medicine, obstetrics, pediatrics, trauma and neurology. In addition, students practice and hone their skills during a clinical experience, which prepares them for a field internship.

William Stewart’s training kicked into action when he heard a man choking and saved his life. Wil, who’s a volunteer firefighter and a student in the Paramedic Program, was waiting to be interviewed for an internship when he saw the man in distress. Wil’s heroics made national news with the story picked up by Inside Edition, ABC News, The Associated Press, The Washington Post, The New York Times and the local media.

“Anyone with the training would have done the same thing,” Wil says.

The two men shook hands, then Wil went back to his buddies and tried to focus on his interview. “But as I was drinking my coffee, my hands were shaking,” he says.

He didn’t get the man’s name and he didn’t even mention that he saved a guy’s life when he interviewed with San Luis Ambulance 20 minutes later. But the incident, Wil says, “reaffirms my decision to go into emergency medical services.”

Wil received a standing ovation at President Robert S. Nelsen’s fall address to the campus community, where he was praised as “the perfect Sac State student.” He also got the internship.
