Thursday 10th March 2011
Dear Parents/Carers
On Friday the 18th March the school will again be supporting and fundraising for Red Nose
Day. This event is to raise money to transform the lives of poor, vulnerable and disadvantaged
people across the UK and Africa.
On the Friday we ask that all children join us in wearing a costume to school and bring a
minimum voluntary contribution of 1. Traditionally, a costume for Red Nose Day is
something red and can include red accessories and dreadfully for all parents. red hair!
(sorry!). This year we would love to offer the children to re-dress in their special World Book
Day costumes if they so choose. Some of these costumes that appeared last week wereremarkable and certainly deserve a second outing, especially because the proposal below.
At 9.00 a.m. on the Friday we will take all the children on a parade to our local Sainsburys (a
key supporter of the Red Nose Day campaign) to both show off our costumes and crazy red
additions as well as to attempt to collect money from our local Streatham common
community. Once there we will not stay very long and aim to be back in class for 9.30 a.m.
This years focus is to do something funny for money. We would like all children to practise
their best jokes, which they will perform to their class. One child from each class will then be
chosen to share them on stage in a special Fridays assembly.
We extend the invite to all parents to attend this celebratory assembly which will take place at
2.45pm. on the Friday and will involve a catwalk of our costumes, the aforementioned joke
telling as well as another chance to give a donation to Red Nose Day and its work

Supporting Christchurch,
New Zealand
The second event on which the rest of the school staff and I would want your help in
supporting is very close to my heart. As many of you will be aware, an Earthquake recently
occurred in the city of Christchurch, New Zealand which has destroyed many iconic buildings, roads and houses. There have been significant deaths and many lives affected.
I am originally from Christchurch, where my family still live and while I am temporarily in
London, these recent events have been extremely difficult for me to know how I can help.
While I am thoroughly enjoying my time here at Immanuel my plan is to return to
Christchurch in the near future.
In the meantime, the people of Christchurch are trying to recover from this disaster like many
others. By fundraising Immanuel and St Andrew School will be able to make a difference and
help those people in desperate need and learn more about supporting our global community.
The school is therefore proposing some events towards the end of the term and we thank you
in advance for your support.
I am always so overwhelmed by the generosity of the community of Immanuel and St Andrew
School and look forward to writing further on these plans in due course.
Yours sincerely,
Miss Taylor
