During the summer you use the refrigerating plant to cool your building. During the winter the plant is shut down. APESS® retains the heat losses using energy with utmost efficiency. This is the way to turn the existing refrigerating plant into a heat pump that uses the saved energy during the winter.

up to 85% reduction on your cost of

heating and CO2 emissions A lot of air conditioning systems use the cooling technology during the summer to cool the air. On chilly days, however, the system is shut down. APESS® withdraws

energy is from the outgoing air of the cooling plant on chilly days,

which is then fed into the incoming air – and this at low cost. This is the way

to cut down on both your cost of heating and

CO2 emissions.

The APESS®-system has been designed for all venti-lating devices that operate as an air-conditioning system, devices, which cool or heat respectively humidify or de-humidify the incoming air. The APESS®-system fits in any ventilating device, be it a new project or a retrofit of an existing plant.

Page 7: Recover heat Lower your cost of energy Protect the environment

APESS® - Ambient Protecting Energy Saving System. The patented two-stage heat recovery process with an APESS® heat pump is predominantly used in ventilating plants for incoming and outgoing air. However, APESS® can be adapted to any ventilating device. APESS® will allow you to lower you heating expenses by up to 85% simultaneously reducing the CO2 emissions by up to 85%.

Conventional heat recovery systems for ventilating plants, like combined circulation systems, rotors, etc. are incapable of making full use of the energy saving potential of the exhaust air. Frequently up to two thirds of the useful energy is lost.

At this point we start with APESS®. Irrespective of what system has been installed or what manufacturer we are dealing with, be it a new installation or an existing one: with APESS® we will always be able to reach a heat recovery coefficient of One!

Page 8: Recover heat Lower your cost of energy Protect the environment

APESS® is no final product nor is it a new invention. It is always the bestindividual solution.

APESS® optimises your existing plants and components providing an utmost energy efficiency with 100% heat recovery.

When cooling the APESS® heat pump will be operated as a refrigerating machine. The APESS® register in the incoming air is now the cooler. The exhaust air ventilator disposes of the condenser heat through the outgoing air.

On the incoming air side the APESS® process uses fluids as thermal transfer medium (water/water-glycol mixture) and a patented buffer storage control. For the outgoing air the APESS® processes are split into: APESS®-RF = refrigerating agent in the outgoing air register and APESS®-FF = fluid in the outgoing air register

APESS® - Ambient Protecting Energy Saving System – is the two-stage heat recovery process with 100% efficiency.

With APESS® we are dealing with a patented two-stage ventilation technology where the APESS® heat pump represents the second stage. For a heating application the APESS® heat pump will recover the heat, for a cooling application it replaces the refrigerating machine.

The system, e.g. the incoming air, is con-trolled by a central control, which allows for the integration of a great variety of components.

Over and above this effect, which can be realised during the heating season of the year, it will be possible to air-condition the building during with APESS® the summer. The third option of applying APESS® is the operation in parallel of heating and cooling.

APESS®

This exemplary plant shows a com-bined circulation system with the feeding-in of heat as a first stage. The additional fin-type heat exchanger has been installed in the exhaust air section of the APESS® heat pump.

Cost efficient and innovative: The investment generates energy savings of up to 85% frequently leading to an amortization in the short-term.

State subsidies.State subsidies from the BAFA.The Federal Office for Economics and Export Control (BAFA)

subsidizes the installation of a heat pump. A condition for the

subsidy is the proof of the COP-value, which provides the base

for the calculation of the annual performance factor.

Subsidies with KfW low-interest loans. The subsidies of the Reconstruction Loan Corporation of the

KfW group of banks are addressed to the operators of large

plants with outputs of 100 kW and above.

There is no need to shut down APESS®, with all the com-ponents of a heat pump outside of the heating season. During the summer it can be used to cool the building. As the refrigerating machine needs to be acquired in any case to cool the air, the extension to the APESS® system will mean a low extra expenditure, which makes it a profitable investment. The cost of acquisition and installation can be amortized in no time over the significantly reduced cost of energy.

In the summer, during the cooling season, APESS® may deliver heat energy to a service water system. This is the way to generate cooling energy respectively heat energy at no cost by way of a displacement between heating and cooling.

Key planning values provide for a realistic simulation of the cost of energy (cooling, heating, humidifying). The APESS® software simulates a very large variety of the energy flows documenting the expected cost with great accuracy. This provides valuable information during the planning and decision-making phase. Using the direct energy optimi-sation process, which the software provides, the energy saving potential will become apparent allowing any inves-tor to plan the application.

Over and above we offer you different models of financing. It starts from the simple purchase via leasing to the “energy contracting”, which is particularly appealing. It offers you a sustainable planning security from the very beginning. You will be able to economize on investments in energy plants, which will allow you to use your financial resources for oth-er applications. You have the guaranty for a secure supply of energy at conditions, which can be calculated, as well as the security to operate with the latest energy efficient technologies.

Current legal requirements and principles.Energy Saving Regulations | EnEV 2016.The current EnEV defines the rules for new construction and existing buildings. Among other items it deals with

the energetic minimum requirements for heating, cooling, and ventilation as well as the energetic inspection

of air-conditioning plants.

Environmentally compatible design of ventilation facilities | EU regulation 1253/2014The regulation defines the requirements for the environmentally desirable design of ventilation facilities installed

in residential and non-residential buildings. The key parameter is the energy consumption during the operation.

Heat recovery under the VDI-Guideline 3803-5.The guideline defines the structural and technical requirements to lower the primary energy demand for both

the provision of space heating and the reduction of the energy used and the CO2 emission.

Aside from the legal requirements for energy-efficient construction the aspects of awareness of environmental values and sustainability have become more and more embodied in the conception of entrepreneurs and archi-tects themselves achieving very positive image ratings. Systems like APESS® use heat that is normally dissipated into the environment and have been optimised in a way as to provide large energy savings. This is the way to lower the cost of heating by up to 85% reducing CO2 emissions by up to 85% at the same time.

From a technicly system is an implementation of the proven heat pump technology that has been designed to accommodate smart controls, which make the system fail-safe requiring low maintenance. No components are required for the installation outside, which means their use has no influence on the architecture of the building.

Good sustainability and environmental consciousness: With APESS® you will be able to save substantial amounts of energy reducing the CO2 emissions by up to 85% at the same time.

With APESS® you can achieve a 100% level of ef-ficiency, because the tem-perature on the incoming air side of the vaporizer for the heat pump is still at a very high level after the first regenerative respec-tively recuperative heat re-covery stage.

The temperature level of the liquid for the cooler/heater in the incoming airflow, however, is at a very low level. This way the system will be able to reach a COP of 2.5 even at an outside temperature of about -19 °C and a COP of 7 at about 13 °C.

The basic equipment of a ventilating device will be sufficient to increase the efficiency of the heat recovery to 100% using APESS®. There is no need to install a heater in the incoming airflow, as the cooler will function as a heater, when heating will be required. The optimal temperature adaptation of the operating liquid allows you to improve the performance to a maximum. In a heating application the coefficient of perfor-mance (COP) at -12 °C outside temperature will be 3.6 and for an outside temperature of +15 °C it will be 6.9

COP19

COP – coefficient of performance A key characteristic number in the operation of heat pumps is the COP value. COP stands for ”Coefficient of Perfor-

mance” describing the efficiency of the heat pump. The COP value represents the ratio between the heat output

and the required operating energy (electric power). The COP value is a good criterion to describe

energy efficiency and economics. It states the ratio of heat output, measured in kW, and power

consumption under real conditions. A good COP value has been achieved already when the values

are between three and five. A prerequisite to obtain government subsidies is the proof of the

COP value, which provides the basis for the calculation of the annual performance factor.

Efficient and qualified for subsidies: The innovative technology enables optimal COP values A

Schoen Clinic, NeustadtThe short period of amor-tization means happiness to the corporate treasurer.

The energy savings added up to more than 32,000 EUR (about 8,000 EUR per facility) during the first year already. It took less than a year to amortise the extra investment for APESS®.

With an air volume of 72.000 m3/h and an output of 362 kW the project of the Schoen Clinic in Neustadt, Holstein should be con-sidered a medium-sized project. The entire project is made up from four facilities.

To guaranty a pleasant climate for 304 rooms where guests feel comfortable day and night, during winter and summer could be an expensive task. With APESS® the nhow hotel in Berlin was able to offer this comfort to all guests still saving about 46,000 EUR in energy cost every year.

These enormous savings have resulted in an amortisation period of 13 months only.

With 13 ventilation facilities plus circulating air-cooling the APESS®-Integral-Facility moves a total of 150,000 m3/h of air. This air volume is used to generate a cooling output of 1,100 kW and a heating output of 710 kW.

Merck, Spittal plantThe actual savings were almost double of those, which had been predicted.

The decision for APESS® is part of the business’s forward- looking orientation towards sustainability. Aside from the good feeling of doing something really remarkable for the environment by the enormous CO2 savings the eco-nomic arguments are unbeatable. The energy savings and short amortisation of the facility resulting there from have caused the business undertaking to order more APESS® facilities during the year 2016.

Page 26: Recover heat Lower your cost of energy Protect the environment

The OHB System AG is one of the important independent players in the European space industry. Applying their usual high demand for efficiency and technology the business undertaking has opted to install APESS® in Bremen first. Now they have implemented APESS® air-conditioning in their Munich plant as well.

The APESS® facility in Munich having an air volume of 130,000 m3/h generates an output of 500 kW for heating and 1,062 kW for cooling. Several cooling circuits make the whole installation fail-safe by 100%. The waste heat from the production is suf-ficient to heat the entire office building. The considerable CO2 savings plus the short amortisation period apply to both projects: for OHB in Bremen as for OHB in Munich.

OHB, Bremen, MunichInnovative technologies with high efficiency are part of the core competence here. Just the same as for APESS®.
