Connaître les plantes que l’on possède chez soi parleur nom exact. Garder leur étiquette d’identificationbien visible dans ou sur le pot.
Si un accident survient, conserver un échantillon dela plante (branche avec feuilles, fleurs ou fruits) ouen prendre une photo numérique. Un spécialiste enbotanique ou en toxicologie pourra plus facilementidentifier la plante en question.
Porter des gants pour bouturer des plantes, désherberle jardin ou couper des piments forts.
Ne jamais consommer de plantes sauvages ou do -mes tiques sans être absolument certain de sonidentité et de sa comestibilité. Non toxique ne veutpas dire comestible.
Lors de la cueillette de petits fruits sauvages, garderles jeunes enfants sous surveillance constante.
Garder toutes les plantes d’intérieur toxiques horsde la portée des enfants.

Pour vous aider à identifier les plantes de votreenvironnement immédiat, voici une liste decelles pour lesquelles le Centre antipoison duQuébec reçoit le plus souvent des appels. Ànoter que parmi les plantes toxiques, seu -lement quelques-unes peuvent être mortelles.
Il n’y a pas de règle absolue concernant la toxicitéd’une plante donnée. Certaines plantes sonttoxiques lorsque consommées, d’autres peuventirriter la peau, etc. L’effet toxique d’une plantepeut aussi varier selon plusieurs facteurs telsla quantité consommée, la partie de la planteimpliquée, l’endroit du corps atteint, la saison.

Know the exact names of your plants. Keep theiridentification tags within sight in or on the pot.
If there’s an accident, keep a sample of the plant(branch with leaves, flowers or fruit) or take adigital photo. That way, a specialist in botany ortoxicology can identify the plant in question moreeasily.
Wear gloves when pruning plants, weeding thegarden or cutting hot peppers.
Never eat wild or cultivated plants without beingabsolutely sure what it is and that it is edible. Non-toxic does not mean edible.
When picking wild berries, keep a constant eye onyoung children.
Keep all toxic houseplants out of the reach ofchildren.

To help you identify the plants in yoursurrounding environment, here is a list of theplants that people most often call the Centreantipoison du Québec about. Please note thatonly some of the toxic plants are deadly.
There are no hard and fast rules about thetoxicity of any given plant. Certain plants aretoxic when ingested; others can irritate theskin, etc. A plant’s toxic effects can also varydepending on factors such as the amounteaten, the part of the plant that is involved, thearea of the body affected, the season.
If someone has ingested or been in contactwith a toxic or suspicious plant, call the Centreantipoison du Québec immediately. A specialistin toxicology can give you the right advice.
