Dear Parents / Carers, Primary 4 told pupils and parents about St Valentine, love and kindness as part of their February Assembly. This theme tied in well as we have been working hard to colour our school with kindness and we are starting to see the impact. Staffing I am delighted to inform you that Miss Outram has secured a permanent post with us and that Miss Smith will be staying with P4 until the summer break. Parents Evenings As part of our ongoing programme of reporting to parents, teachers will meet with parents on Thursday 21 st February and Tuesday 26 th February. Unfortunately there is a clash with Think Dance therefore P7O will have their parent’s night on Tuesday 19 th instead of the 26 th . Mrs Andrews has contacted parents regarding a change of dates for her meetings. Nursery Enrolment Nursery Enrolment will take place on Tuesday 19th February 9.30-11.30am & 2-3pm. Please bring the following evidence with you: Birth certificate, Tax Credit Award Letter, Child Benefit Award letter and two utility bills. Thank you to Arran and Rose who shared their research into palm oil and the destruction caused by palm plantations. A number of pupils have spoken about changes they have made to the products they use as a result. Well done to Jonah who won Gold at the Scottish Team Gymnastics competition. Well done to all the pupils who represented the school at the Stirling Schools Cross Country. Your behaviour and effort was impecable. Assessment of a level and attainment.This term pupils in P1 and P4 will participate in the Scottish National Standardised Assessments. These are online assessments in literacy and numeracy which will form part of our assessment suite. A leaflet explaining how the new national Standardised assessments will work in practice has been published on the Scottish Government website. There is a leaflet for parents accessible through this link. If you do not wish your child to participate you must put this request in writing before the 22nd February.

Tesco Bags of Help Appeal- Final Plee If you are shopping in Tesco either locally or Dunblane/ Stirling please can you pop a blue token in our box. Money raised is to help resource the Imagination Station – in particuar the quiet reading zone and the research station.Please spread the word.

School Improvements for 2018~2019Progress with school improvements will be an item in each issue of the newsletter.Building positive relationships and nurture ethos.School Décor – Painting has been completed in the P3-P7 , P4-P6 corridors and displays are now being put up. We look forward to showing you at Parents’ Nights.

Respect for All –Anti- bullyingThank you to those who completed the survey. A group formed of parents, pupils, DHT and HT produced Anti- bullying guidelines for staff and parents.We also produced a parent leaflet and a child friendly leaflet.A special thank you to Sophie, Morven, Carron and Harry for their input. The pupils have produced a short film to support our anti-bullying guidleines.

Digital Developments – o Tuesday 5th February was Safer Internet Day –

our Digital Ninjas presented at Assembly and provided class teachers with support materials.

o Mr Craven is currently recruiting for the Coding project he will be running with Alva Primary. Pupils will be selected from P5/6 using the questionnaire they completed.

o I am currently working with a group of parents to formulate a Digital guide for parents including information on data sharing, Glow, G Suite and apps.

o The Living Streets survey that the pupils are taking part in is annonymsed – pupil names have not been entered. If you would like your child to take part pease contact Mr Craven.

o Thank you to the parent council who have provided 3 new Interactive white boards that will be installed next week.

o Raise attainment in Numeracy and literacyo Teachers would like to share ‘number talks’

with you. A number of teachers have embraced the digital age and filmed their lessons. These videos can be viewed in classes at Parent’s Nights.

o This month we are focuing on numeracy with pupils from P6/7 going to Wallace High and teachers from Wallace High coming to work with pupils in P1-P5.

o Parental EngagementMiss Currie and I met with a representative from Save the Children to discuss an interesting programme called Families Connect. This programme would be open to parents of nursery/ P1

children. We would be looking to start this in the summer term. Please watch out for more information

Self EvaluationHow Good is OUR SchoolI worked with our senior pupils to evaluate learning , teaching and our ethos. This has highlighted a number of positives as well as areas for development. These areas will be looked at along with parental and staff evaluations.The pupils responses are on display in the school.

New entry arrangementsFollowing positive feedback from pupils and most parents we will continue to use the door open / no lines for entry to the school at all times.

Not enough playground supervisorsWe have increased the number of supervisors and added a member of the management team to the playground as well.The Imagination station will be open after the break and accessible for pupils for short time spells at break and lunch.

Communication.Our App is live. The app will be used as our main form of communication with newsletters, dates and events.
