Watering landscapes with reclaimed water is a smart alternative to using potable (drinking) water. Like other water sources, there is a limited amount of reclaimed water that is available to customers for the irrigation of lawns and landscapes. Proper use by all reclaimed water customers will help ensure the continued availability of this resource. We need to use all types of water efficiently. To avoid a citation, please make sure you are: Watering on the right days Watering at the right time (no watering between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.) Repairing irrigation system leaks Not watering after rainfall (a working rain sensor is required) Not overwatering (water should not overflow onto driveways or sidewalks) Customers with irrigation budgets should not exceed their allocated amounts. Reclaimed water is the final product of a multiple stage advanced wastewater treatment process.

Toho Water Authority currently treats and pumps over 27 million gallons of reclaimed water each day. Watering landscapes with reclaimed water is a smart alternative to using potable (drinking) water.

Like other water sources, there is a limited amount of reclaimed water that is available to customers for the irrigation of lawns and landscapes. Proper use by all reclaimed water customers will help ensure the continued availability of this resource.

The level of treatment received by reclaimed water makes it acceptable for the following uses:

The degree of treatment required for the use of reclaimed water makes it unsuitable for the following purposes:

Reclaimed Water Don’ts

Irrigating landscapes: parks, golf courses, medians and residential lawns.

Agricultural uses to irrigate citrus, pasture lands and other crops.

Rapid infiltration basins can be used to allow high quality reclaimed water to soak into the ground to recharge valuable ground water.

Industrial facilities and power plants for cooling or for some manufacturing processes.

To create, restore or enhance wetlands.

Provide fire hydrants and sprinkler systems with water.

Supply water to decorative fountains and ponds.

Used at construction sites or other places to reduce dust.

Consumption by humans.

Connection to a residential dwelling for toilet flushing, bathing, cooking or other household uses.

Any interconnection with another water source.

Filling of swimming pools.

Recreational use involving body contact like swimming pools, outdoor showers or water toys.

Irrigation of edible crops which are not peeled, cooked, or thermally processed before being consumed.

Above-ground hose bibbs, faucets, quick couplers or hoses, etc.

Florida legislature, Toho Water Authority (TWA)

currently serves over 100,000 customers in

Kissimmee, Poinciana and unincorporated areas of

EXCELLENT FERTILIZERReclaimed Water acts as an excellent fertilizer supplement for ornamental plants and turf grass AND helps us all to save our drinking water.

PLUSYou do not need to fertilize as oftenand you really don’t need to use phosphorus due to the high content already naturally present in the soil. To find out more about the fertilizer concentrations of nitrogen and phosphorus you should be using on your landscape please call our Water Conservation Dept. at 407-944-5121.

CHECKMake sure your plants are salt tolerant.

Purple is the universal color for reclaimed water. If you see a purple pipe or hose then you know it holds reclaimed water.

WHAT IT TAKESIt takes wastewater from 4 to 5 houses to make enough reclaimed water to irrigate the landscape of one house.
