It’s Your Life’s DreamPrepare For Rain is a place to grow you. It’s a place for everyone seeking to move towards their goals…in a positive way.

Many people work very hard at getting “unstuck” and moving away from things they don’t like, things they want to change in their lives. But having a negative motivation isn’t lasting.

Rather, how different would it be to charge after your dreams and most heartfelt aspirations?

The motivation would be much stronger, wouldn’t it? So, whether you are in the public or private sector, wear a white, blue, green or clerical collar, are young or seasoned, feel artistic or not, this is a place where people can grow.

Including you.

…And You Can Make It Happen

Two farmers were dealing with a severe drought. Both farmers prayed for rain. But only one farmer went out and plowed his field (becoming ready—actually preparing—for the promised rain). We invite you to explore your own life and future. To chase after your dreams and make them happen. Are you preparing for rain?

We all need a little help sometimes. Somebody rooting for us. Someone who will nudge us.

Are you willing to “prepare for rain” in your life? To make changes, face issues, explore options, challenge your fears...and chase your dreams?

Let’s explore what steps you can take to make it happen.

Starting right now.

Step 1: Go InIf we assume that it’s been so long since you gave your heartfelt dreams much “air-time” in your heart, then it’s high time you did, isn’t it?

So you must go in. It must be done before your 1st step.

What is it you haven’t allowed yourself time to dream for? Is it writing? Composing? Singing? Whatever it is, go in and let the dreams out. You’ve waited long enough…and only you can set them free.

Step 2: LeadAgain, if we assume for a minute that the pathway to your dreams isn’t a nice, smooth sidewalk…it’s not even a clear mountain trail…it’s more like a goat path up on a ridge (which it might be, by the way), then you’ll need a guide.

But who will be your guide when, after all, it’s your dream?

You will. Your first step is the most important one. It’s based on a choice, like your other steps. The choice is to lead. To lead. Lead you.

Who is the first person that needs to follow you? You are.

So you must lead. If you won’t follow you, why would anyone else?

Step 3: BelieveNapoleon Hill called it a natural law:

Whatever the mind can conceive and believethe mind can achieve

Certainly, without your belief that you can reach your dreams, your mind will struggle with making it so.

Now, you’ll notice that Napoleon doesn’t say how the mind will achieve its goal.

Because it doesn’t matter. Not at this stage.

Conceiving the dream is easy. Believing it will happen is hard. Without that belief, though, the mind really has no chance of pulling off the dream.

So you must believe. If you don’t, why should anyone else?www.PrepareForRain.com Edition 1.3

Step 4: MoveBen Stein said:

You must take the first step. The first steps will take some effort, maybe pain. But after that, everything that

has to be done is real-life movement.

To move toward your dreams requires doing something different than you’ve (probably) always done.

That’s OK. Because without doing something, your mind won’t have much to work with to achieve its goal, will it?

You can get help at this stage, if you want. No clue what to do? Ask a friend, even a stranger, who seems to know “stuff.”

But you might be surprised at what your intuition can come up with when you allow it to. So you must move.

Step 5: FocusBrian Tracy has said:

Decide upon your major definite purpose in life and then organize all your activities around it.

If you struggle with “focus” you can run to the library and check out loads of books that discuss the topic. Not a bad idea.

Or you could just turn off all the screens you have distracting you. It’s said the average person spends 4+ hours—not including work—staring at a screen (smart phone, TV, tablet).

If this time is spent purposefully moving you toward your dream, then go for it! But if it’s just mindless time-suck—time you can’t cash in later—then seize your life back! You mustfocus.

Step 6: Make PeaceNow that you’ve released your dreams from whatever lock-up you had them in—“I had to work!” or “I had no support!” or whatever—it’s quite likely at some point you’ll feel kind of sorry it’s taken you this long.

Again, you have a choice.

You can get angry, resentful, depressed and other similarly negative emotions. Just be aware that it’s hard to turn around and go back, once you’ve started down this path.

Instead, use the energy to drive you forward. Make up for lost time. Be grateful for your newfound focus and freed-up dreams.

Make peace with yourself. Move forward. Live. Now.

Step 7: Fail QuicklyPerhaps you’ve heard that at Facebook’s headquarters , there is a sign that says:

Fail faster

Fear is the biggest impediment to achieving one’s dreams. Unexamined fear. It’s not always “fear of failure.” It can be fear of success. Or fear of doing better than anyone in your family.

The quickest path to putting fear to rest is to just try.

Like a kid riding a bike the first time, failure is certain. And like getting on the bike again anyway, repeated failure leads to success.

Fail quickly. Make faster progress.www.PrepareForRain.com Edition 1.3

Step 8: EnjoyThis is the Side-B of the Make peace “album.”

If you’re trying desperately to make up for lost time, chances are you’re not enjoying the journey very much. Which takes all the fun out of the journey.

So double-down on making peace…with you.

Yesterday is all history.

Tomorrow is all hypothetical.

Today is all promise.

So enjoy. The day you’re in is the one that matters. Make this one count.

Step 9: Rinse/RepeatWhile none of the steps are particularly hard by themselves, you may be surprised at how challenging it is to keep them all going at the same time.

It was common, in years gone by, to have a cabinet with the family’s fine china in the home. The china was considered an heirloom. Jugglers wow their audience by spinning 6, 7, even 8 plates on long sticks.

Think about these 8 action steps as the fine china in your life. You want to keep them all spinning, right?

So rinse & repeat. Your dreams arelike china. Treat them carefully. They may become a family heirloom.

Step 10: ShareConsider who in your sphere of influence could use someone toroot for them. To nudge them.

Well, guess what? You’re it!

It’s now your privilege to act as a mentor for someone you love and care about.

How cool is that?

Your dreams will be reenergized in the process, so it’s a win-win.

Share. Early and often.

About the AuthorJOEL LUND is a life-long entrepreneur, beginning as a “media-delivery specialist” (aka,

news-paper boy), when he was a pre-teen. He is a certified executive coach.

More recently, he co-founded Prepare For Rain LLC along with his singer-songwriter wife, Janet, after a successful and internationally award-winning leadership career in the financial planning industry.

He is an award-winning author, with two non-fiction books: The Ultimate Survival Guide for Youth Ministers (written after 8-years in full-time church-based ministry, 7-years part-time and a bunch as a volunteer) and Watson’s Way; Life Lessons We Earned From Our Brilliant Dog (an inspirational and humorous book of tales about the family dog, written for teens and grown-ups still feeling teen-ish).

Over the years, Joel has coached many people in both business and ministry, and spoken to even more (more than 100,000 at last count).

Joel’s first novel (under his pen-name), The Quest for the Temple Key, is an award-winning young adult (YA) fantasy novel in the style of Lewis, Tolkien and Rowling. He formed his own publishing company in the process, Prepare For Rain Press, which is dedicated to supporting especially Christian YA novelists. He knows first hand how hard it is to be published, even self-published, when you want to do it well.
