A manmade block purposely designed for sharpening diamond blades. The ultra abrasive block is used to create a new sharp edge. The particles abrade the alloy matrix to reveal fresh, sharp diamonds. The sharpening stone eliminates the need to find blocks of sand stone, or other similar abrasive materials, that can be bulky or difficult to obtain.

Blade will not cut

CAUSE

The material slips during cutting, which causes the blade to twist or jam the segment in the cut, enough to break them.

Blade is too hard for the material being cut, causing excessive polishing, and breaking of the segment or fatigue.

Defective clamp plates causing the blade to deviate.

Overheating due to insufficient water, often indicated by bluing or discoloration of the steel core.

Wearing of the steel core under the segments is caused by the grinding of the blade in very abrasive materials during cutting. It is usually materials with a high sand content which are responsible for this type of wear. (See also ‘loss of segment’).

The blade is too hard for the material being cut.

Cutting pressure too high or a blade jammed or twisted in the cut may bend or flex the blade`s steel blank. When subjected to extreme tension there is a risk of the steel plate cracking in time.

Overheating is caused by inadequate water supply or incorrect use of a blade intended for dry cutting.

The blade is too hard for the material.

Excessive cutting speed.

The blade is too hard for the material to be cut (for example a blade for a block or a combination blade used for a long period of time on hard brick, a blade for asphalt used to cut reinforced concrete).

The blade segments still appear to have some life left, but the blade is not cutting.

SOLUTION

Hold the material firmly or clamp the material if possible.

Use the proper blade specification for the material being cut. Check the diaflex brochure.

Replace the two flanges.

Increase water flow to both sides of the blade.

Use a blade with undercutting protection. Also increase the water flow to flush away abrasive slurry.

Use a softer bond to eliminate stress on the blade. Check your diaflex brochure or speak to you reca sales representative.

The operator must use stable and even pressure when cutting, and be careful not to twist or jam the blade in the cut.

Use sufficient water to cool the blade for wet cutting. For dry cutting allow air to circulate around the blade to help reduce overheating.

Use a blade with a softer bond.

Reduce speed.

Check your diaflex brochure and choose the right blade for the material being cut.

Cut an abrasive material to redress the blade. This remedy may occasionally prove necessary. However, if the blade becomes too dull too often, this indicates that it is too hard for the material being cut.

This Guide has been prepared to help you find, identify and overcome the problems you may face whilst using a diamond blade. The majority of problems encountered arise from either the blade not being suited to the work, the incorrect use of the blade or a problem with the equipment being used.
