Dear Parents/Caregivers, Students and Friends of Reynella East College,
Finally the fabric of Reynella East Collegeis almost complete and our College hasbeen ocially opened by the Ministerof Education, the Hon. Jennifer RankineMP. At last we have seen the end of
fences, barriers, the dust and the dirt thatcame with the construction of all our newbuildings and facilities. By the start of nextyear, it will seem like a distant memory asthe nal move of classes in the Primarysection as well as the OHSC into their newaccommodation occurs. Finally, everystudent in every section of the school willbe able to enjoy unrestricted movementaround the courtyards and gardens andinto the new buildings to further theirstudies. For this is what our merge of the
Junior Primary, Primary and High Schoolhas been all about to provide a better
learning environment for every student. It is no wonder then that one of thehighlights of my work at Reynella is tocongratulate students who have achievedMerit and Excellence Awards at ourPresentation Assemblies. While school isnot always about academic success, it is stillone of the most important aims for everyteacher in the school to help studentsachieve their best. It is always with greatpleasure that I meet former students andhear about how their time at Reynella Easthas helped them in their jobs and careers.
Congratulations also to the manystudents who were successful in their
sporting competitions through SAPSSA,Zone, Saturday Morning and Athleticscompetitions. This year saw the creationof 4 Houses Florey, Mawson, Batesand Spence, that will give structure to
competitions and sports days right acrossthe school, and I was very pleased to seethe enthusiasm with which everyone hasembraced the Houses and their colours inour recent Sports Day.
Once again too, students have excelledin the Arts and we have seen the resultsin the many performances of Music,Dance and Drama through the year. Atmany performances there was standingroom only in our Theatre and who couldforget the stunning performances of MrTrebilcos drama classes and the Wakakiri
performance at the Entertainment Centre! The Arts Showcase night down at theHopgood Theatre was another occasionthat demonstrated the talent of ourstudents and Arts sta.
This is my last newsletter as I will be retiringfrom the Department of Education nextyear. The years I have spent here haveseen the College grow out of the separate
Junior, Primary and High Schools into thelargest and best equipped public school inSouthern Adelaide. This has not happenedas a chance event, rather it is with theenthusiasm and commitment of so many
people, from all of the students who havedone so much this year, the Teaching andSupport sta, our Chaplains and Youthworkers, the Governing Council and theParents who support us in so many ways.Reynella East continues to live up to thevery best traditions of public schoolingand I trust will continue to do so under theguidance of its new Principal, Ms CarolineGreen.
I would like to thank you all for yourparticipation, support and encouragementthis year and over the past 12 years that I
have been Principal of Reynella East, and I

The REC Band and Choir, combined with the Primary Music Hub Band
and Choir, ventured to Harbour Town on Monday December 9th to
perform Festive music for shoppers. This was our last performance for
2013 and it proved to be enjoyable and a great way to end the year.
The 59 students who went were well-decked out in Santa hats, reindeer
ears and tinsel, to play and sing a variety of traditional and popular
Christmas songs. Sleigh bells rang out to accompany the music and the
shoppers were appreciative. Highlights included: Frosty the Snowman
and Jingle-Bell Rock from the band, and, All I want for Christmas is You
and Santa Claus is coming to Town from the choir. Congratulations
to all music students on a great year and best wishes for the Festive
Season and holidays.

everyone is safe and happy. The students will not be able to loiter after
using the Canteen and will be expected to move back to the Primary play
