LYON CITY FACTSAdded to UNESCO’s worldwide heritage list in recognition of the city’s cultural and architectural wealth, Lyon ranks on a par with other major European destinations. It’s more than 2000 years of history with roman amphitheatre, “traboules”, and tradition of silk… The historic town center represents the most important surviving complex of
Renaissance buildings in France. Saint Jean cathedral, built between the 12th and 15th centuries, is without no doubt one of the old town’s most beautiful monuments.
The Fourvière Basilica and Museum of Gallo-Roman Civilization contribute to making the Fourvière quarter one of Lyon’s most visited tourist site. The Croix Rousse district,
home to the “Canut” silk workers, has to be discovered by foot in order to fully appreciate the famous “traboules”, secret passageways. Finally the Presqu’île area is the shopping district located between the Rhone and Saone rivers.
