Rules and Regulations (Revised: March 7th, 2011)
This document contains the regulations and standards for Real Time Attack. This is not a stand-
alone document, and is designed to be executed in conjunction with the National Auto Sport
Association Club Codes and Regulations. All items in this document supersede any conflicting
items in the NASA CCR. It is the individual responsibility of every attendee to read, and be
completely familiar with, the entirety of this document. Failure to adhere to these rules may
result in immediate removal and potential ban from any and all Real Time Attack events. All
rules and regulations contained herein take immediate effect upon this document’s date of
release.
Prepared by:
1. Administrative Overview
1.1. Definition and Disambiguation of Terms
1.1.1. Attendee/Attendees shall hereafter refer to any and all
individuals present at a Real Time Attack event, regardless of the
intent or reason for their attendance. This includes, but is not
limited to: drivers, crew, passengers, spectators, workers and
volunteers.
1.1.2. Competitor/Competitors shall hereafter refer to any and all
individuals present at any Real Time Attack event for the purpose of
competing in the actual Time Attack event.
1.1.3. Participant/Participants shall hereafter refer to any and all
individuals present at any Real Time Attack event for the purpose of
active participation. This includes, but is not limited to: drivers,
crew, passengers, spectators, workers and volunteers.
1.1.4. Crew/Crews shall hereafter refer to any and all individuals
present at any Real Time Attack event for the purpose of directly
supporting a specific driver/team/car in any way such as, but not
limited to: mechanical assistance, external timing assistance, tuning
and coaching.
1.2. Liability
1.2.1. “The price of man in motion is the occasional collision.” – Carol
Smith
Racing is an inherently dangerous sport. As such, it is every
Prepared by:
attendee’s responsibility to understand and accept this inherent
level of risk. While Real Time Attack will make all efforts to provide a
safe and secure environment for all attendees, risk can only be
mitigated and never completely removed. Therefore, in no way does
Real Time Attack guarantee or imply that death, injury or financial
loss will not occur as a result of attendance or participation.
1.2.2. It is solely the responsibility of each competitor to ensure and
monitor the safety and roadworthiness of his/her vehicle or vehicles.
1.3. Authority
1.3.1. All competitors expressly agree to be governed by the
determinations and interpretations of these rules and regulations
made by Real Time Attack officials.
1.3.2. Real Time Attack officials present at the event are the final
deciding authority regarding the enforcement, interpretation and if
deemed necessary, modification of these rules.
1.3.3. The Real Time Attack Rules and Regulations are intended to
ensure that events are conducted in a manner that is as fair as
possible for all competitors and consistent with the need for prompt
and final determination of competition outcomes. On occasion,
circumstances will be presented that are either unforeseen or are
otherwise extraordinary, in which strict application of these
regulations may contradict this intent. In such circumstances, Real
Time Attack officials will be the determining authority. Every effort
will be made to honor the spirit and intent of the competition to
provide the most equitable and legitimate determinations and
interpretations.
Prepared by:
1.4. Protest
1.4.1. Protests may only be submitted by competitors present at the
event during which the incident to be protested occurred.
1.4.2. Any protests regarding any decision or occurrence must be
submitted to a Real Time Attack official no later than 30 minutes
prior to the award ceremony or conclusion of the event. Protests
submitted beyond this point will not be honored.
1.4.3. Safety violations are non-negotiable. Protests regarding safety
violations will not be honored under any circumstances.
2. Competition Description There will be four run sessions throughout the day. The first three runs will
be practice runs, determining release/placement in the time attack run. The
last session (time attack) will consist of five laps: 1) Warm-Up, 2-4) Timed Laps,
5) Cool Down.
2.1. Points System
First place: 25 points
Second place: 23 points
Third place: 22 points (minus one point per place after that).
2.2. Championship (Final Round) Points.
First place: 30 points
Second place: 28 points
Third place: 27 points (minus one point per place after that).
3. Universal Regulations
Prepared by:
3.1. Driver Eligibility
3.1.1. Real Time Attack retains the absolute right to remove any
competitor from a Real Time Attack event if Real Time Attack
officials determine that their continued participation may present a
danger to themselves, their property or the lives and/or property of
any and all attendees. Refunds will not be awarded to any
competitor removed from the event for safety reasons.
3.1.2. In order to be eligible to participate, drivers must meet the

safely conduct themselves and their vehicles on the racing surface at
competition speeds. Regardless of previous experience, any driver’s
ability is subject to the scrutiny of Real Time Attack staff.
3.2. Vehicle Eligibility
Prepared by:
3.2.1. All vehicles will be subject to technical inspection by Real Time
Attack officials prior to competition. Any vehicle not inspected will

the discretion of Real Time Attack officials.
Prepared by:
B. "Wide-body" kits or any other modifications that increase the
depth/width/capacity of the wheel wells are prohibited.
C. Any and all vehicles with modified/replaced roof panels require 4-
point roll bars or full cages. This does not apply to situations in

final build began) must be available within that model range from
the date of the vehicle's construction, or later
Prepared by:
4.2.2.C.1. The term “base engine” is defined as the unmodified
engine from which the final build began. For example, a
Chevrolet 350ci would be the base engine for a 383ci stroker.
4.2.3. Exhaust
A. Exhaust modification is unrestricted, provided the vehicle is
capable of passing race track sound restrictions where applicable.
B. Exhaust systems must exit from underneath the vehicle.
Turndowns or “dumps” that are positioned well behind the driver
will be considered only on a case-by-case basis.

back seat, and an FIA approved 5 or 6 point harness properly
installed. Harnesses are prohibited in vehicles that have no
enhanced rollover protection (i.e. roll bars/cages).

seat-back brace affixed to the harness bar section of the roll
bar/cage, and must be approved by Real Time Attack officials
prior to competition.
C. Roll bars or roll cages are mandatory in convertibles and must
conform to NASA CCR Section 11.4.7. Additional side impact
protection (beyond OEM) is not required but is strongly
recommended.

in the area between the axles) are prohibited on vehicles not so
equipped from the factory. Factory-equipped underbody trays that
are removable must be removed for competition.
G. Canards, at a maximum of four, may only be placed forward of the
front wheel arches, and extend no more than five inches from the
mounting surface.
