Dear TFSD #411 Parents, Students, Patrons

and Staff:

In early October the TFSD #411 Board of Trustees reconvened a group of key stakeholders from our community with the

purpose of reviewing the district’s budget, examining the educational needs of our students, and providing a recommendation

to pursue a supplemental levy or not. At the conclusion of many meetings and much

work, the Budget Advisory Committee recommended that the district seek a continuation of the 2013 supplemental levy

for $4.5 million each of the next two years.

The committee determined that maintaining the current levy rate would not

put additional burden on the community and would allow the district to continue to

offer the same level of services. In December, the Twin Falls School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously to approve the recommendation. So, on March 10th voters in our community will be asked to vote for or against a continuation of

the current supplemental levy.

Over the past six years, our district has responded to the poor economy and state budget shortfalls by cutting supply, travel, computer and textbook budgets, changing from a more expensive block schedule to a

7-period day at our secondary schools, eliminating some positions through attrition, and furloughing school days from

our calendar. All school districts across

Idaho have struggled through the “Great Recession” these past few years. The TFSD #411 has fared better than most during these challenging times, and I have confidence that we will continue to persevere, work together, and help our students to thrive as we work through the issues we face.

Members of the Budget Advisory Committee and I have made several presentations to various groups over the past few months, and this edition of the District Focus contains information to help

as well. Feel free to call us if you have additional questions. Our contact information and answers to frequently asked questions are available within these pages.

Twin Falls is a very strong community. I have faith that the patrons of our school district will take the time to become informed about the supplemental levy election, weigh in by voting on March 10th,

and set a good example for our children by

participating.
