Opt out of riding and visit the Dalat Market or one of Emperor Bao Dai’s ornate Imperial Palaces which echo the history of a proud people. Enjoy a round of golf, relax by the pool or visit the spa. You’ll ride alongside the mighty Song Tranh River arriving at My Son, Champa’s renowned city. This is an impressive archaeological site that has now returned to its quiet meditative origins, but the echoes of history ring in the air as you wander through the many temples destroyed during the war that rattled this region. Enter the Forbidden City behind whose walls only the emperor and his ruling class were allowed to reside during their rule, but today you can enjoy it freely. After the tour and a scrumptious lunch you’ll ride your bikes through the lush countryside where ancient pagodas contrast sharply with the still fading scars of the Vietnam War. Stop at one of the most famous religious sites in the country, the Thien Mu Pogoda. This beautiful and impressive structure is 7 stories high and has stood on the banks of the Perfume River as the unofficial symbol of Hue for over 400 years. Avid Option: Siem Reap to Kbal Spean Approximately 36 miles with 500 feet of climbing

Along the way you’ll pass Banteay Samre, a Hindu temple built in the early 12th century in the intricate Angkor Wat style. You’ll also pass Banteay Srei, a 10th century temple dedicated to the powerful Hindu god Shiva. This temple’s unique construction of hard red sandstone is carved to look like wood. Your final destination for the day is the sandstone carvings unique to the Kbal Spean River. You’ll hike to the site to see these riverbed carvings depicting mythical Hindu gods and history including Shiva. After lunch on this last full day of your trip, choose your afternoon options before meeting for a final group feast at your hotel in the town of Siem Reap.

DAY 12: THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 2013Mountain Bike: Siem Reap to Tonle Sap Approximately 25 miles with 300 feet of climbing

Today you’ll take one final spin through the countryside to the amazing natural phenomenon that is Tonle Sap, the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia. This combined lake and river system changes its directional flow twice a year due to the monsoon and dry seasons. Relatively small and shallow during the dry season, it dramatically swells to 6 times its size when water flows back into the lake from the Mekong Delta. As one of the most productive inland fisheries in the entire world, it supplies nearly all of Cambodia with freshwater fish. Depending on the water level, you’ll take a private cruise through the many floating villages that live and harvest on these life-giving waters. After the cruise you’ll get on your bike one last time to cycle back to Siem Reap where you’ll say goodbye to your guides and your Asian vacation of a lifetime.

DINING

Trek Travel scopes out unique and delicious dining locations, and we usually leave at least one meal

for you to explore on your own. If you have any special dietary preferences, be sure that you have

informed your Trek Travel Trip Consultant before you leave for your trip. We will do our best to

accommodate your dietary requests.

On our Vietnam & Cambodia trip, the cuisine consists of an abundance of seafood, savory meats, noodle dishes, fresh vegetables and exotic fruits. The French left their culinary influence throughout the country with coffee, baguettes, and gourmet savoir faire! Soups are a common delicacy and will vary from a noodle soup made with thin rice noodles to various types of broth. One of our favorite soups is pho. This beef noodle soup has a rich clear broth that is achieved after hours upon hours of simmering meat with different herbs.

HO CHI MINH CITY, VIETNAMThe Vietnamese capital offers a multitude of restaurants serving traditional fare such as pho, the delicious soup that is not to be missed. The French left their mark here—the city center is rife with wide boulevards and historic colonial buildings. The 19th century Notre Dame Cathedral was originally built with all materials imported from France. Take a stroll through the New Ben Thanh Market in the Pham Ngu Lao neighborhood—you’ll find everything here! Approximately 35km from the city, you can find the Ci Chi Tunnels, a testament to the strong will of the Vietnamese during the war. If you are in Ho Chi Minh City on a Sunday morning, you might catch a live band at the Saigon Opera House. Local bands occasionally put on free performances here. We recommend the following accommodations for your pre-trip hotel.

Park Hyatt Saigon | 2 Lam Son Square, District 1 | +84 8 824 1234 | www.Saigon.Park.Hyatt.com | ~$300Park Hyatt Saigon hotel is centrally located at Lam Son Square, near the elegant Opera House in downtown Saigon and within walking distance to business, shopping, entertainment and main tourist attractions.

Intercontinental Asiana Saigon | Corner Hai Ba Trung Street | +84 8 3520 9999 | www.ICHotelsGroup.com | ~$180This hotel is close to the colonial sights of Notre Dame Cathedral and the Old Saigon Post Office, a few minutes from famous landmarks like the Reunification Palace, City Hall, and the beautiful Opera House.

SIEM REAP, CAMBODIAThis town, which is actually a cluster of small villages, is the gateway to the world-famous Angkor temples. In the Old French Quarter, the area around Sivutha Street and the Psar Chas, there is Chinese-style and colonial architecture among the shops. The jewelry and craft shops can be found in the Psar Leu area. A visit to the Angkor National Museum will give you a deeper understanding of the archeological finds. If you can, catch an Apsara dance performance, the traditional Khmer dance. These are meant to convey a story or message, and are not merely dance. Check out the floating market on the river to Tonle Sap Lake, either by riverboat or on a guided tour. We recommend the following accommodations for your post-trip hotel.
