MUV1&2 electronics

– Not the real expert, however…

• Use LAV electronics + TDCB• Cables coming in the back of EB24• Patch panels taken/refurbished from NA48

• LAV type of cables• TEL62 crate common with MUV3

• Standard readout firmware

MUV3 electronics

• Cables– HV

• Reuse AKL cables: enough and of right lengths, 16 cables/bunch with SHV connectors• Need some work: cut in half, free the conductors, put together the internal connectors of two

cables into one Radiall 32 pin connector for the CAEN boards• Estimated length: between 8 and 12 m, depending on which sector• HV power supplies rack on the floor of ECN3

– Signal• Going to the EB (see later)• Estimated max length 20 m, effective length to be determined• 296 RG58 cables. BNC at both ends, to be prepared• AKL patch panel available

• Constant fraction discriminators– Reuse of the old AKL CFD

• 288 channels available• Few more boards should be produced, however not urgently

– The existing boards have been checked to have all the channels ok with a basic go-nogo test• Indeed using two counter and their coincidence and moving one of the two cables from one

channel to another• Outputs are ECL

MUV3 Electronics

• Level adapters– Needed to convert from ECL, flat cable connector to

LVDS, TDCB connector• Relatively simple boards, only take care of line impedance

and to have all the channels with connections of the same length

• To be built in Mainz, elaborating a first design by Gianluca and myself

• Implementation in VME 6U, needs one 6U crate, which will be useful also for choke/error OR board

ECL/LVDS translator“TRAM” (TRAnslator for Muon veto)

Implement controlled Z lines and all tracks of the same length

MUV3 Electronics

• TDCB and TEL62– 1 TEL62 and 3 TDCB needed– Firmware to be developed

• Readout of hit times is available• Work needed for trigger primitive generation

– Pieces under development possibly available from CHOD and LAV

Level adapter crate

TEL 62 crate

MUV1 and 2 patch panels to be installed in the back of EB24
