NEXT WEEKEND’S 2 ND COLLECTION: In his first encyclical letter, God is Love, Pope Benedict XVI stated that “within the community of believers there can never be room for a poverty that denies anyone what is needed for a dignified life”(no.20) In our own country, 37 million Americans struggle in poverty, many working full time. CONGRATULATIONS and best wishes to John Sokira and Alanna Rhodes who were joined in Holy Matrimony on October 20th. May they have a holy and happy marriage. NO DAILY MASS NEXT WEEK: I will be taking time off next week. There will be no daily Mass Monday through Friday. Please pray for me as I take time to retreat and bring myself ever closer to our Lord so that I may be able to better serve Him through serving you. THANK YOU AGAIN ! I want to once again thank everyone for the many prayers, cards, gifts, and well wishes extended to me for my Birthday. My prayers are with each and every one of you. May God bless you for your kindness. THANKSGIVING WEEK: Mass will be celebrated at 9:00am on Thanksgiving Day. There will be no Mass on Friday November 24th as I will be out of town.

RCIA/ ADULT FAITH FORMATION There will be no RICA/Adult Faith Formation on November 15th and November 22nd. Classes will resume on November 29th.

THE ADULT BIBLE STUDY CLASS: Sunday at 8:45am. We are studying the book of Exodus.

DATES TO REMEMBER: Monday, Nov 13 – Sopranos and Bass CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS CHOIR REHEARSAL - Sunday, November 12th – There will be a 45 minute rehearsal in the Choir Room immediately following the 10:00 a.m. Mass for the Children who would like to be in the Children’s Christmas Eve Choir. There will be another rehearsal set in December for the Pre-School – Grade 3 children who wish to be in costume for that program.

LASAGNA FOR SALE: If you purchased a pan of lasagna from the Ladies Auxiliary please pick up you order in the St. Joseph Hall after Mass this weekend.

COUNCIL 10567 has named the family of Fred and Irene Deason as its November 2006 Family of the Month and Greg Skocik as its Knight of the Month. The Deasons are one of St. Patrick's most prayerful and involved couples. Fred has served Council 10567 as Recorder and Chancellor and is one of the Council's leaders in almost every area. Greg Skocik is a longtime member of Council 10567, a former Financial Secretary and member of the Council's First Degree team. Greg is also actively involved with his wife Anita in several areas of social concern, including the Firehouse Shelter in Birmingham. We are proud to honor these great members of our Knights family. DINNER DANCE GIFTS: For those of you who purchased tickets to the Jerome C. Bradley Memorial Dinner Dance but were unable to attend, you can still receive your complimentary gift. Just see Gaeton Conte and he will see that you get your gift bag. PRO-LIFE Mass & Rosaries, the 3rd Saturday of each month, will be November 18 this month. The Celebration of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will begin at 8 a.m. at St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic Church, 1515-12th Avenue South, Birmingham. Following the Mass is the procession to the abortion center, where 20 decades of the Rosary will be prayed, concluding at approximately 10:30 a.m. Please come and pray with us. LIFE IS PRECIOUS! THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE: Our food drive continues thru Sunday, November 12. Please bring non-perishable food items to the St. Joseph Hall and put them on the table next to the wall closest to the offices. Some brown sacks are available. Please be aware that the Catholic Center of Concern in Birmingham is always in need of non-perishable food items, year round. SUNSHINE CLUB will meet Wednesday, November 15th. We will start with bingo at 11:00 with lunch to follow. (There will be no Mass as Father Bean will be out of town.) The cost is $5.00 and includes 10 games of bingo and lunch. Please RSVP to the church office.

THANK YOU: This year's Halloween Party was a huge success and I would like to thank everyone for their help and hard work. Special thanks to the Fun Friday team- Jane Blanchard, Jackie Higginbotham and Bobbie Smith; to Doug Blanchard and the Haunted House crew; to all of my family for their support; to Charlie Muro for the beautiful decorations; to the "Muro" kitchen crew; to Sammy Owen, Rob Smith, and Maria Whitaker. Thanks also to Gaeton and Joseph Conte, the Knights of Columbus, Patti Wehby and the Ladies Auxiliary. Without all of you, the party would not have been possible. Finally, thank you to everyone else who helped with setup, working or cleanup and also those parishioners who donated candy, prizes and their time. There was a great turnout and we are already looking forward to next year. Julie Owen SPIRIT SUNDAY! for Grades 6-12 is next Sunday, November 19, beginning after Mass until 3 p.m. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, we’ll visit local neighborhoods door-to-door, requesting non-perishable food items. All items collected will be donated to our parish food drive. Please call the church office to sign up. We’ll begin with lunch after Mass, so please bring about $10. FUN FRIDAY: Attention all kids from K-5th grade; please join us for Fun Friday this Friday November 17 from 6:30-8:00 in the Family Life Center. We will have games, snacks, and, of course, fun! Parents, please remember to bring your child into the gym and sign them in. If you have any questions, please call the church office. SPIRIT FRUIT BASKET SALES have begun!! The baskets are overflowing with fruit and make excellent Christmas gifts. Baskets are $20.00 each or $15.00 if you pre-pay by December 10. See any Spirit member to order.

DAILY MASS-ROSARY-NOVENA PRAYER : Daily Mass is at 9 am Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and 6 pm Wednesday. A Rosary, the Daily Prayer for Vocations, and the Miraculous Medal Novena Prayer will be prayed 30 minutes before Daily Mass begins. A Rosary is prayed at 9:30 a.m. in the chapel every Sunday morning and at 4:30 p.m. each Saturday evening. Volunteers are requested to lead the Rosary at each occasion. The Primary Intention of the Rosary prayed is: ‘An End to Abortion’. DAILY MASS MINISTRY: Volunteers are needed to be Lectors and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion during daily Mass. If you are coming to Mass please check the sign-in sheet in the Narthex. If no one is down to serve and you would like to, just sign your name on the appropriate line. We currently have a number of openings for this month that we need to fill. If you are able to help with this ministry please sign the sheet in the Narthex.
