Reading During Summer Vacation

Reading Reminders Read for at least 20 minutes every day Even if your child can read independently
all children enjoy being read to by their parents or other family members
It is great for children to read books written in English or their home language
The local public library and Arcola’s media center are great places to borrow exciting books

learned or what the book was about.

1. Talk about the story elements Characters – People or animals in
the story Setting – Where and when the
story happens Problem – Something that goes
wrong Solution – How the problem is
fixed Events – Things that happened in
the story Main Idea – The most important
idea or message in the story.2. Retell the story (What happened in
the beginning, middle, and end?)
Non-fiction Books (informational)
1.Talk about new facts that were learned
2.What was the most interesting thing you learned?
3.What would you like to learn more about?
