The 21st century has ushered in new developments and challenges in our
social, economic, political, and educational environment which have
direct significant impact to education, in general, and to our educational system in particular, and therefore, should and must
be properly addressed.
Education in the 21st century would be the foundation of material as well as
intellectual progress.
The Challenge ◦ To develop an education system responsive to the
economic and social demands of this century and beyond, and that innovative capabilities be spread throughout the whole population.
The K-12 Curriculum ◦ a major curricular reform in basic education
believed to respond more effectively to the challenge of
both localization and globalization of education transform every learner into a holistically
developed educated Filipino

It is hoped and expected that these curricular reforms would result to concrete improvements both in the teaching performance and the learning outcomes.
How do teacher education institutions respond to the demands, challenges and requirements of the K-12
Basic Education Curriculum?
Determining the required competencies of teachers for effective implementation of the
K +12 curriculum especially in Grades 11 and 12 Effective planning of co-curricular activities and
community involvement program that would meet community needs
Assessment that would meet curricular demands

Transforming teachers’ and other stakeholders’ attitude toward the K + 12 curriculum for its successful implementation
Conducting curriculum localization through: ◦ knowing how to implement the Mother Tongue-Based
Multilingual Education ◦ tapping indigenous and local knowledge as a means to
master the National Standards; and ◦ using local resources.
