On that note; I would personally like to extend a special thanks to Ken Morrison for stepping up and chairing this event for the past two years as well as the WGD committee members who donated numerous hours and labor, Dale Bassett who headed up the kitchen of cooks and last but not least the countless people who volunteered at the dinner itself. Great Job everyone and again; THANK YOU! It is hard to believe that the Lenten season is upon us already and with it comes the opportunity to rejoice in your Christian faith and reflect on the role that Jesus plays in everything we do. At the Knights of Columbus Lent also brings with it the Tootsie Roll Drive, an annual event to assist the intellectually disabled. Year after year Knights all over the country donate their time on Palm Sunday weekend to go out and “man” a position for a couple of hours collecting donations from the public that will benefit the intellectually disabled in our area. Calls will be going out soon to all members seeking volunteers to do a shift; please consider volunteering your time; or better yet, bring your kids or family to help out, make it a family event. THE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS - IN SERVICE TO ONE, IN SERVICE TO ALL

Richard Council 788 Honor Roll

From The Corporation President Jay G. Corey

I would first like to thank all of those who participated in our annual WILD GAME DINNER which was held on Saturday, January 19th. My heartfelt thanks to Chairman Ken Morrison and Co-Chairman PGK Bill Chassee’, Denise Kelsey, R. Jay Kussmaul, and Jeff Lorencen for all of their hard work as committee heads to bring this fund raiser to a successful conclusion. My thanks also to our chefs, Dale Bassett and Paul Travis, for again putting out a fantastic meal. All of these people combined with the many many workers assisting them in the cooking, setting up, tearing down, promotion, game handling, ticket sales, and the many tasks that it takes to put this annual dinner together. Without their help, none of this would be possible. Thanks again for all your help.

My thanks also to Dave Schertizing who has helped us with many projects around the club, reducing the costs that would have been necessary to repair our building. Most recently, Dave replaced our kitchen door which as aged and needed replacing. Thanks Dave. Also to Ron Cook and J.D. Diaz for their help in the Hoop Shoot Program that also happened on Saturday, January 19th. Finally, thank you to Rich Rybicki who again put on a successful Chili Cook-off on Sunday, January 20th. Many different kinds of chili were available to be tasted and voted on along with watching the playoff games preparing for the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 3rd.

I also want to report that the LCA Board has voted to move our meetings to the 4th Wednesday of the month beginning in February. This is to allow some of the members to attend the Men’s Night Out at St. Gerard which had them scheduled on the third Wednesday. Our meetings will still start at 7:00 pm, but will now be on the fourth Wednesday of each month. There are many events that are coming up during February and March, including a St. Patrick’s Day Party on Saturday, March 16th. This will include a Corn Beef, Cabbage, and Potato dinner, along with dessert, and live music. So plan ahead and plan to come to the club more often for all the activities that we are planning for you.

From Your Editor Jay G. Corey

The annual Hoop Shoot was held on Saturday, January 19th and as usual the level of competition was very high. Participants shot baskets and competed for their chance to move onto the District and State finals. There were several boys and girls who participated and we want to thank all of those who did compete to win. Francis O’Donnell Project 2012 By PGK Al Boucher

Our annual Christmas project was a success once again. This was our 26th year, distributing gifts and food to 24 families here in the Lansing area. We provided each family member with Christmas gifts and each family received enough food for their Christmas meal and the week to follow. Our families consisted of 37 adults and 59 children.

I want to thank all of the members who sent in a cash donation. With food prices so high your generosity covered all of our expense and we will have a good amount to carry over to next year’s project. Also, thanks to the Ladies Auxiliary for the gift shopping and wrapping and all of the helpers who were here to deliver to our adopted families.

From The Knights Daughters By President Haley Schaner The Knights Daughters are becoming really busy starting this Lenten time of year. We have fish frys coming up on February 1st, and February 15th . We also have a bake sale on March 8th and March 22nd. We are having a breakfast on March 3rd, so come on out to all of these events.

If you are a baptized catholic between the ages of 10 – 15, you can join us and come to our meetings which are the second Wednesday of every month starting at 7:00 pm. You are always welcomed !!!
