I remember when I joined the council; the first day I walked into the hall, two gentlemen turned, reached out and said, “Hi how are you? Are you a new member? I said, “Yes I am”. They bought me a beverage and here I am. My reason for mentioning this is, as members of council 788 we should welcome the new faces that come through our doors. I know it may be hard to reach out, and it may be a bit uncomfortable. But just think what a difference you could make by just reaching out and saying hello. A Message From Your Grand Knight . . . . . .

My Brother Knights and Families: Vivat Jesus!! Today is a beautiful day. The trees are blooming and the flowers are growing. I sometimes feel our council fits that description. I was involved in a special event today; it made me think of our family here at council 788. When new candidates come through our doors we need to help them grow and not accidentally pull them as weeds or stunt their growth so our council can continue to develop and grow. DATES TO REMEMBER: Family Mass on April 29th 9:00 Mass

From The Corporation President R .Jay Kussmaul Soon things will start looking differently at the vacant lot next door to the east of us.

The owner of the property, and the LCA, has entered into an agreement to let us use it for additional parking, and, in return, we will clear out the debris and undergrowth.

So, we have signed a Letter of Understanding to let us use the lot for parking and in return we will perform general yard cleanup and trimming of the trees and bushes, with all debris being removed at the LCA’s cost. Liability insurance will be extended to the lot for its use by our facility which will allow us to free up several parking spaces for our customers. This will allow us to have several more parking spaces for persons to attend our activities.

This will not happen overnight. Your help is going to be needed to make this project work. We have established a committee to map out the project, and then will set a date to begin the work. We will need all hands on deck to get this completed so we will be asking for your physical help for the cleanup. This will help us eliminate this eyesore which now looks like a deserted wildlife sanctuary.

From Your Editor Jay G. Corey THE 15TH OF THE PRECEEDING MONTH is still the deadline for submitting material for consideration into each newsletter. This allows us to get the newsletter to the printer quicker, and out to you sooner. Anything that you may have for the newsletter, in the way of articles or corrections, can be sent to me directly at [email protected].. You may also contact me at my home number of 393-1096 or by cell at 974-6501. If you would like to view the newsletter in color rather than the black & white copy by regular mail, please make sure you are on our e-mail mailing list, or you may go to our website at kofc788.org.

Sickness & Distress A prayers and recovery intentions continue to be needed for Brothers Matt Mannino, Frank Brandell, Rod Shangle, Will Rogers, Fr. William Luger and Patrick McCarthy. Please also pray for Mary Ellen McCloy, and Donna Milliman. Please remember all of them in your prayers. Our condolences to the families of Brother Earl “Pete” Lipp, Sir Knight Rodger James Swink, and Brother James McCrackin who all passed away recently.

If you know of someone that is ill and recovering, or has passed away, please contact our Grand Knight, Bill Chasse, at [email protected] or at home at 517-622-0365. You can reach our Financial Secretary, Jim Warner at [email protected] or at home at 321-1507 or by cell at 719-6794.

MEET OUR NEWEST BARTENDERS L - Sandy Martens R – Tina Ackels Come On Down To The Club & Say Hi And Stay A While !!

Congratulations to Dillon Beaton

We congratulate Dillon Beaton who competed in the boys 10 year old division and won in Mt. Pleasant to go on to the finals defeating the runner-up from last years State Championship after eliminating the defending State Champion in the Regional competition. Dillon is in the fifth grade at St. Gerard School.

CLUB KENO COMING TO #788 HALL Starting in May, we should have the Michigan Lottery Club Keno at our club for everyone to use and share in the winnings as the magic numbers come up. You will be able to play keno, plus all the regular lottery games including Power Ball & Mega Millions. We were able to acquire the machine at no cost to the club, and the club makes 6% on sales, and 2% on any winnings paid.

Training for the use of the machine for ALL VOLUNTEER BARTENDERS, will be held on Monday, April 23rd starting at 9:00 am. All volunteer bartenders are asked to attend. The instructions are easy and should be able to be learned by everyone. It will take about an hour.

TOOTSIE ROLL DRIVE A HUGE SUCCESS Brother Jeff Lorencen is beaming from ear to ear on the success of this year’s Tootsie Roll Drive. This was Jeff’s first year as chairman, and under the guidance of PGK Steve LaMacchia who did it last year, everything went smooth as glass. Over $11,000 was raised and Jeff wants to thank everyone who participated from collecting donations to working on the program, and auditors working counting the donations as it all came together representing our principals of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity. A great job well done !!!!!

CONSTRUCTION & CLEANUP TO BEGIN

As the President R. Jay Kussmaul indicated in his message, we are about to begin the cleanup of the lot next door to the east of us. The owner has given us permission and a committee has been formed to determine how to proceed. We are going to need your physical help to clean up the brush, bushes, trees, and the lot so we can park more cars during our events. We will be scheduling a date for the work to begin, but in the meantime we ask that you contact Jay Kussmaul at 323-2922 to leave us your name for calling and helping out. This will be done on a weekend and your help is needed. The more we have, the quicker it can get done.
