Happy New Year!

Welcome to 2012! It seems like it was just yesterday that we were celebrating the new millennium, and now we are twelve years into this century. Like the beginning of any new year, it’s always good to remember every way that God blessed us in the previous year, but even better to make new goals for the year to come. If there is any New Year's resolution that all of us should make it would be to spend more time in God's Word each day.

The Word of God is the foundation upon which we must build our lives. God's Word should lead us in every decision, thought, and action. In 2 Timothy 3:16-17, Paul writes, "All Scripture is breathed out by

God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the

man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work." It's my prayer that through reading the Bible daily you will be "complete" and "equipped for every good work" in 2012.

One of the ways that we can all learn more from God's Word is by committing ourselves to read the entire Bible in one year. In order to do this, we as a church are beginning a Bible reading campaign on January 1, 2012. If you don't already have a one-year Bible reading plan, then be sure to pick one up in the sanctuary foyer or download from our church website. We pray that all of you will commit to this great challenge and learn more about God through His word in 2012. Those who complete the whole Bible by December 31, 2012, will be invited to a special achievement banquet in January of 2013. I hope to see you there!

Music Ministry News Rev. David Ray, Worship Pastor ▪ [email protected]

Happy New Year and Happy 2012! I hope each of you had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I have made the commitment to read through the entire Bible this year with our Pastor, and I hope you have made the same commitment. If you didn’t, let me encourage you to join in and dive into God’s Word. What a great way to start off this year. Celebration Choir rehearsals will resume Wednesday evening, January 4, 2012. The Children’s Choirs will resume Sunday evening, January 8, 2012. If you aren’t in the choir, let me take this opportunity to invite you to check us out. Come to the Choir room Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. and experience what we do as we prepare for Sundays and other events. There is NO obligation and we won’t send you anything in the mail, unless you ask us. Just come see, hear, and sing. There is a place for YOU!

Blessings!

Student News ▪ Grades 6-12 Rev. Russell Aguirre, Student Pastor ▪ [email protected]

Children’s Ministry ▪ Grades 1-5

Rev. Russell Aguirre, Student Pastor ▪ [email protected]

It’s 2012 and what’s your New Year’s Resolution? A new year always brings excitement to me because it’s like a fresh start but not just that, it’s exciting to see what God’s will for our lives will be. God has a different plan for each one of our lives, my prayer is that our students here at FBC will embrace God’s will for their lives but also seek to honor Him daily. I encourage all students, if you aren’t already, to have a daily quiet time with God. It doesn’t take long and you can do it any time of the day. It’s such a rewarding time because it’s just between God and yourself … worshipping, praying, and growing!

This year we will be starting something new and is available for high school students (9-12 grades) who want to

attend; they are called EXAMPLE Small Groups. They will be on Sundays either in the late afternoon or in the

evening beginning on February 19. Small Groups are a great way to get plugged into our youth ministry! It’s a time for hanging out, talking, worship, Bible study, and really getting to know other students. It’s also a great way to get your friends plugged in too. Each small group will be led by a different adult leader, and students will have the opportunity to choose which group they want to attend.

Students don’t forget that we have many exciting events and Bible studies planned for 2012, so please stay informed! 4:12 Student Ministry Weekly Schedule:

Sundays: Sunday Morning Bible Study Groups - 9:45 a.m. Youth Choir - 6:00 p.m.

Wednesdays: SOULED OUT - 6:00 p.m.

Upcoming events so mark your calendar… January 22 – YAC @ The Aguirre Home at 7:00 p.m. Students are encouraged to attend either Youth Choir or

the evening worship service at 6:00 p.m. There will be a shuttle bus immediately following the service. RSVP to Russell as there are a limited number of seats.

January 29 – Deposit Due Centrifuge Camp (Union University): Sign-up deadline and $50 non-refundable deposit is due. Remember cost for Centrifuge Camp is $310.00 per person, please see Russell Aguirre for more details and sign up in the youth room.

February 11 – Youth Valentine’s Banquet: This will be the first fundraiser of the year and is our biggest! Students, this is a great opportunity for you to earn money to go towards your summer trips! Please see Russell Aguirre for more information.

Let’s welcome 2012! This is going to be an exciting year, and there are lots of events planned for kids! Parents, please be sure to mark your calendars and remember that every week we have something for your kids…

Children definitely don’t want to miss this night! RSVP to Russell Aguirre for this event by December 26. The cost for this event is $10 per kid, but don’t let money be an issue.

January 22: Lunch ‘n a Movie! Join us on Sunday, January 22 as we have lunch at the church (every kid needs to bring a sack lunch) and then go see Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked. We will meet in the fellowship hall following the morning worship service and have lunch and then we will go to the movie theatre in Fayetteville. Women on Mission WMU Re . . . Rekindle . . .Reconnect . . .Renew . . .Refocus

An exciting opportunity awaits all women in the Fairburn Baptist Association on Saturday, January 28, 2012. You are invited to an Association WMU brunch hosted by Fairburn First Baptist Church. We are honored to have Ann Watts, Regional Mission Innovator, to serve as Interim WMU Director for the Fairburn Baptist Association. Ann has a heart and a passion for WMU and missions. Her dreams for WMU include informing, inspiring, and encouraging women toward mission involvement. You will be inspired as you hear Ann share her vision with us. Our program plans also to include a message from a missionary who is temporarily home on leave.

Ann has met with some of our church WMU leaders and has challenged us to RECONNECT with other ladies in our Association. Our first goal is to have every church in our Association represented at this brunch. Our ladies have begun making the contacts with other churches in the Association and giving them a personal invitation to join us on this day. That same invitation is extended to all the ladies of Fairburn First. Our church can be a vital help in setting the WMU pace for the Association. Together, we will REKINDLE our desire for the spiritual renewal of all the women in our Association. Together, we will RENEW and REFOCUS our energies on the urgency of spreading the gospel in our own communities, our state, our nation and the world.

Remember: Saturday, January 28, 2012. From 10:00 - 12:00 p.m. Come . . .

Come and be Empowered!!! Our WMU is Growing and Going! We want you to be a part of this exciting and challenging opportunity!

Join a Group today! The Least of These: Lessons Learned From Kids On The

Street by Ron Ruthruff

Book Review by Ella Robinson

Ron Ruthruff grew up in a government housing project nicknamed Taco Flats by the locals. His father died at an early age, and his mother struggled to make ends meet for her and her son. Ruthruff learned to be angry, defensive, and tough. Although never a street kid, he does understand what it means to grow up in a difficult situation.

Fast-forward to today: Ruthruff has spent more than 25 years working with and on behalf of homeless youth. At New Horizons Ministry in Seattle, Washington, he worked one-on-one ministering to homeless youth and educating the community about the plight of the homeless. He has traveled to Guatemala, Vietnam, Kenya, and many other countries doing the same thing—reaching out to suffering youth and educating the communities around them.

The Least of These is Ruthruff’s story. It’s the story of New Horizons Ministry. It’s the story of struggling youth. It’s the story of God’s love for His children. It’s the story of faith in action.
