RE: Statewide Entrepreneurship Student Competition Dear Kentucky Educator, The Clark Group and Kentucky Council on Economic Education are co-sponsoring a competition for
middle and high school students to learn about entrepreneurship — by investigating and profiling a local
business, past or present, and considering the effects of this enterprise on their community.
Our purpose is to help teach students what it is to be an entrepreneur, and to help them to discover
Kentucky’s proud history and tradition of innovation and inventiveness.
The first twenty teachers who register to participate will receive a free classroom set of ten Clark’s
Kentucky Almanac and Book of Facts (Premier Edition) plus a multimedia Kentucky Almanac CD-ROM
for the classroom or school library. Students will use the Kentucky Almanac to research community
history; they will find it to be an excellent resource for not only this but other projects as well. The
Kentucky Almanacs make a valuable addition to library and classroom reference materials.
Please join us in the first national celebration of Entrepreneurship Week! Contact me with any questions. I look forward to hearing back from you soon. Sincerely, Amanda Harris Marketing Specialist 859.233.7623 800.944.3995 Fax 859.233.7421 [email protected] P.S. More specific details and rules are outlined on the attached materials and at http://www.econ.org/programs/entrepreneurship.html and www.kyalmanac.com <http://www.kyalmanac.com>.
Kentucky Council on Economic Education (KCEE) Is pleased to announce
2007 Gallery of Kentucky Entrepreneurs with
Clark’s Kentucky Almanac and Book of Facts
Competitive Divisions: Individual students are invited to submit original written profiles (1,000 maximum word limit - photographs encouraged) or dynamic multimedia profiles about a local entrepreneur. Participants are encouraged to incorporate video, animation, and any other multimedia techniques that may enhance the design of the profile, but length of videos should be limited to three (3) minutes. Heavy emphasis will be placed on originality, and proper use of Kentucky Almanac and other resources.
Division 1 — Written profile Division 2 — Multimedia profile
Prizes: Three selected student entries for middle school and three selected student entries for high school for each division will be awarded an MP3 player. Sponsoring teachers for the top 3 selected student entries in each division will be awarded a digital camera. The first 20 teachers who register to participate will receive a classroom set of 10 Clark’s Kentucky Almanacs and Book of Facts (Premier Edition) to use as a classroom reference source. A multimedia Kentucky Almanac CD-ROM for the classroom or school library will be included. Entry Guidelines: Select a local entrepreneur — past or present — who has contributed to your community in an economically, culturally, socially or politically responsible manner. Research facts and/or interview your entrepreneur and create a profile of the entrepreneur and the business, its products or services. Include a community profile using Clark’s Kentucky Almanac and Book of Facts and other print or online resources. Describe why your chosen entrepreneur’s contributions are valuable to your community’s development in overcoming challenges or shaping and maximizing opportunities. Rules: Teachers register between February 19 and April 30, 2007. Only entries from students of teachers who register will be eligible. Teachers may coach and advise, but work must be completed by students. Student entry deadline: Wednesday May 30, 2007. All entries become the property of KCEE and The Clark Group and may be posted on the web. Profiles may be submitted to: Florence Huffman, [email protected] as attachment (Preferred Method) or The Clark Group, Attention: Florence Huffman, PO Box 34102, Lexington, KY 40588-4102 (Multimedia presentations should be submitted on CD-ROM)
