Regional Development Sunshine Coast
RDA Sunshine Coast was incorporated on Jan 29 2010
RDA Sunshine Coast is:
• a not-for-profit community-based Organisation
• led by local government, business and community leaders
• Committee members are all volunteers and have been appointed by Federal and State Ministers
A Sunshine Coast region that is innovative, dynamic, connected and sustainable
5 Key Roles
1. Consults and engages with the community on issues, solutions and
priorities
2. Promotes whole of government activities
3. Supports informed regional planning
4. Provides communities with information about government programs,
services, grants and initiatives
5. Contributes to:
– Business growth plans and Environmental solutions
• Social Inclusion strategies
Regional Roadmap 2012-31
Collaboration and partnership is critical to the continuing success of the Sunshine Coast and a central feature of the Regional Roadmap.
Focus Area 1: Nurture high potential economic development sectors
Prioritise large scale projects that will have a significant flow on effect into the broader Sunshine Coast Community
• Sunshine Coast Health Sector Panel – as part of the panel RDASC actively promoting business and investment opportunities associated with the Sunshine Coast Uni Hospital
• Food Futures: Agri-Food Sector Value Chain Project – Food Futures project focused on supply chain issues, business and industry development.
Focus Area 2: Advocate for the delivery of infrastructure

in a timely manner, for the
long term benefit of the

Transport Infrastructure - Accessibility and Connectivity
• Bruce Hwy upgrade
• North Coast rail line duplication
• Improved Transportation Network
• Sunshine Coast Airport

• Light rail and priority bus corridors
Focus Area 3: Advancing Business and society through technology
Digital Futures Project
Access, adoption of key technologies that support and build innovation through creative technologies.
Smart Communities
Sippy Downs identified as a “knowledge precinct” adjacent to the fast growing University of the Sunshine Coast – wider distribution of economic and cultural benefits.
Focus Area 4: Workforce & Employment
2013-2013 Workforce Planning Research Project Comprehensive research project to assist in planning for anticipated changes to the Sunshine Coast workforce over the next 20 years.
Resource Sector Action Plan Resource sector is driving economic growth nationally, and this is a significant opportunity for the Sunshine Coast economy and society including viability of expanding Sunshine Coast Airport and other key infrastructure assets for the region.
Priority Employment Area Project A important part of RDA SC community consultation program that supports the delivery of projects aimed at assiting employment outcomes for local residents.

Together this latest data from a variety of sources creates an overall

According to the ABS labour data, in Queensland, young people continue to experience significantly
higher rates of unemployment at 16.9% amongst those not attending full time education compared
to 5.5% for all Queenslanders.
