Monthly Themes July - December 2014

HERE T are three segments in the life of every man: the past; the present and the future. I have come to understand that the easiest one to consider is the past. This is because it has registered in our mind, and as such could be played over and over again. We may also be dreaming of how we could have had a different result. The present can be challenging and very demanding as the events unfolds unexpectedly and may not also work out as desired. The future can even be more

worrisome, as what is happening today may pose a great threat to the hope of tomorrow. Most of the time, even as Christians, we try to judge our today and tomorrow by the look of our yesterday, whereas God wants us to take our eyes off the past; believe in Him for our today and trust in Him for our tomorrow. The people of Ai were able to defeat the Israelites in the first battle they fought. When the Israelites came against them the second time, the people of Ai considered it would be like the past, they were terribly wrong. The tactics and the field craft of the battle has changed, likewise was the result. Ai was turned into rubble without a soul! (Joshua 8:1-29).Apostle Paul was used by God to do many miracles in his missionary journeys, having known the dangers of considering the past however declared, “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before” (Philippians 3:13).

.

In this month of July, God will make us to lie down beside ‘still waters’; He will bring us into His covenanted blessings for our 7th year. He will use ‘hornets’ to chase out occupiers of our Divine heritage. He will also make us to dwell in peace and calmness to the extent that no ‘nation’ will be able to disturb us. May the zeal of the Lord of hosts watch over these promises to fulfil them in Jesus name

HET human life is filled with several commitments and things we are dedicated to doing. But as Christians, the most important commitment and dedication we

should uphold is that to the Living God, while every other commitment should be secondary. In our work and walk with God, we experience circumstances and situations that challenge our commitment and dedication to God, the reason why we need to from time to time examine ourselves and therefore recommit and

rededicate our lives to God regularly. After the Israelites had spent about 70 years in exile, God returned them to the Promised Land again. Things were very rough as they were trusting God for a new beginning again. Under the leadership of Ezra the prophet, Joshua the High Priest and Zerubabel the governor, they discovered that in order to experience a new beginning with God, they would need to separate themselves from the strange women that some of them had married which had contaminated their originality. The people agreed to recommit and rededicate their lives to Jehovah and subsequently began to experience the new moves of God (Ezra 10:1-17; Zech. 4:1-10).In this eight month of our year of new beginnings, it is impressed upon my spirit that God wants all of us to examine ourselves and demonstrate a recommitment to work and walk with Him; as well as rededicating our lives to Him anew as we approach the last quarter of this year. God in turn has however promised that we will then begin to experience His new moves and fresh deeds in our lives as individuals, families and in the church as a whole. That night, he had a dream, he saw a ladder from heaven touching the earth. Angels were ascending and descending the ladder, and God was speaking from the topmost of the ladder. When he woke up, he exclaimed "God was in this place and I knew it not!" He then worshipped God and made a vow unto God.Though Jacob was in a hostile terrain, alienated from loved ones, destitute and unsure of his destiny. God encouraged him with His manifest presence and the transfer of Abrahamic covenant upon his life

NI conventional warfare, the object of contention is mostly ground. Both sides will be seeking to gain new grounds. While both parties reside in their occupied territories, there is usually as ‘no man’s land’ in between which they contest for. The troop that pushes the other back occupies the ‘no man’s land’ and will be entering a new ground.

God promised Abraham and his descendants the land of Canaan for an inheritance. Abraham, Isaac and Jacob lived in that land as sojourners. Their descendants later spent hundreds of years in Egypt and later delivered by God through Moses to again proceed to the Promised Land. By this time, there were many tribes who had established themselves in Canaan of whom God said will be driven away for the Israelites.God had a tactics in mind of how it was going to be done. He was to gradually take new grounds for the Israelites by driving out the occupants little by little so that the land will remain habitable and cultivable when they move in (Exodus 23:28-32).God has brought us into this land as our Canaan. He has promised to give the land to us and our descendants as an inheritance. It is possible that we might have been through challenging times which can be likened to the experience of the Israelites in Egypt. God says it is time for Him to gradually give us new grounds and for us to start claiming occupied territories. He said He will make us a nation of kings and priests unto Himself in this Land.

HE Tfoundation is about the most important part of a building. Any mistake made in the foundation has to be sorted out or it will compound as the construction

continues (Psalm 11:3). The strength and stability of a building is also based on the depth of its foundation and the materials used (I Cor. 3:11-15). The terrain or the kind of ground a foundation is erected upon will also affect the longevity of the structure it carries (Mt. 7:24-27). In the end, to have a lasting and solid structure,

emphasis is to be given to the foundation the house will stay upon.As Christians, our lives are like buildings. We are built on Christ which is the sure Foundation. As buildings are subjected to effects of physical and human elements, so also is our lives are subject to physical, human and supernatural elements. There is the need to revisit our foundation so as to withstand any attacking force. There are certain cornerstones that form the basis of Christian living; we are admonished to make sure that these are not removed.King Solomon was someone God loved from childhood. He began to walk in the step of his father – David. Not too long afterwards, he removed the foundation or the landmark his father had set and fell out with God (I Kings 11:1-11)..

STRUCTUREA is something that is made up of a number of parts that are held or put together in a particular way; or something constructed such as a building. Reinforcement can be defined as providing additional strength or support to an object or material. Every building is made up of different parts: column, beams, walls, roof sheets, windows, doors, etc. All these serve different purposes and are therefore equally important. After years of construction, it is not

unusual for certain structure to show weakness, this can however be fortified or reinforced to continue serving adequately.Structures can be reinforced mainly for two reasons: because it has been subjected to intense pressure; or because it is hoped that it will be bearing heavier load than before. The bible makes us to know that the universal church of God is a big structure, so also are different congregations smaller structures (I Cor. 3:9). At a point in Prophet Elijah’s life, he was so much under pressure that he wanted to quit unceremoniously. God however told him that there are prospective helpers in the region of 7,000 that could support him. He was to anoint Hazeal as the king of Syria; Jehu as the king of Israel and Elisha as a prophet over the region (I Kings 19:13-18). The structure became strengthened.God has helped our church so well in the past years. He has progressed us greatly spiritually and otherwise. Over the years though, certain aspect of our structure has been subjected to intense pressure. God is promising us reinforcement and fortification. He will raise reinforcers for His work to proceed to the next level. Every aspect of the work will be strengthened by the Holy Ghost. Also families that have experienced structural weakness in one way or the other will equally receive additional strength and support from God.

HET bible talks about former glory and latter glory. It also talked about former rain and latter rain. Just like the latter rain is more crucial to the fruit development and ripening; so also is the latter glory is more crucial for a greater showcase than the former glory. Blessings are what we all pray for and strongly desire from God. However, God blessings can come in a number of ways:

While some people are blessed early in life and that singular blessing is maintained throughout their lives; some others are blessed in their early lives only, without the understanding or the power to maintain what they had. In other cases, some are blessed at the later part of their lives only; while some received an early blessing first and a top up of a later blessings as well.In Job 1:1-22, the bible talked about Job as a perfect and upright man, a man who feared God and hated evil. He was blessed in his early years by God, with the permission of God however, the devil stole everything he had, except his life. But having endured the temptation and hardship, God blessed his latter life more than his former. He was given twice as much as he had before and long life to enjoy his latter blessings (Job 42:10-17).God has blessed us from the beginning of this year. He has preserved those blessings thus far. As we approach the last month of this year, God intends to grant us latter blessings (a top up), that will essentially be greater than the ones we have received from the beginning of the year.

defined as something that is exceptional in amount, quality or degree. It means to go beyond what is usual in magnitude or degree.

Great on the other hand can be defined as something that is very large in size, extent, intensity, quantity or number. It can also be something that is very notable, remarkable or of high significance.

Reward in a positive term can be defined as something given in recognition of service, effort or achievement. To be rewarded is good; to be given a great reward is even better; and to be given exceeding great reward will be the very best.

In Gen. 15:1, God told Abram in a vision that He would be his exceeding great reward. At the time, Abram was living as a stranger in Canaan, and the promises of God in Genesis 12:1-3 looked very bleak to him. God had to encourage and reminded him that the blessings would still come, and even exceedingly greater.

He was told that though he was still childless, but he would still have a successor from his loins, and that his descendants will be countless like the stars in the sky. Also that the land he then was a stranger will be given to him as an inheritance.

Over the time, all these promises of God were fulfilled in his life. Abraham, as he was later renamed by God, had sons and daughters of his own. Isaac, one of his sons became the covenanted child to continue the Jewish race. Today, there are over 21 million Jewish descendants globally through Isaac. Not counting the descendants that came from the other children Abraham had, who cannot be numbered. The land Abraham was a stranger then is today an inheritance of the Jewish people, despite fierce battles from nations wanting to retrieve the land from them.

The concept of reward is something that humans can easily relate to. We all seek and sometimes demand reward or better rewards. Whether it is for time, energy, resources or deeds. Most times, we do get angry if we feel that the reward we get is not commensurate with the effort we have invested.

Our God is not a debtor. Whatever service done unto Him is rewarded. All efforts done to obey His instructions are compensated. All achievements made in the course of doing His will are also rewarded.

God is truly a Rewarder of those who diligently seek Him (Heb. 11:6). Abraham sought God, obeyed Him and he was exceedingly and greatly rewarded. Mary Magdalene sought Jesus Christ passionately. She always wanted to be He was to hear Him. She later sought earnestly for Jesus body even after His death and burial. No wonder, she was the first living person to see the resurrected Saviour physically. What an exceeding great reward!

As Everlasting Father's Assembly proceeds from her 9th year unto the 10th, I hear God saying that He will be our exceeding great reward.

He said that He will not only bless us with rewards for our service, efforts and deeds; but that He will also make such rewards to be great and actually exceedingly great. He says, He will bless us with children who will be heirs to the promises He has made unto us; that our Seeds will be numerous and that He will grant our present dwelling place to us as an inheritance.

Abraham question was, "How shall I know that I will inherit the land?" God had to enter into an eternal covenant with him for a proof by using mainly three of certain animals for a special sacrifice. God says as a proof to us for the exceeding great rewards He has promised, He will do something amazingly unbelievable for us within three weeks from today (30/06/15). God finally says we must not entertain fear for whatsoever, as He will be our shield. He will defend us from the wicked, evil and temptation and that we shall all dwell in the portion of our inheritance in safety.

Aundisputable feature about David’s

relationship with God is the fact that he was a man after God’s own heart. This defining

feature of their relationship singled out David among contemporaries for extra-ordinary blessings that were quite evident through is physical and spiritual well being and activities.

As a poet, David deployed his poetry skills to praise and worship God both in spirit and in truth. As a shepherd, he showed extreme dexterity in the manner he took care of the flocks under his watch. The extra-ordinary blessings further manifested when he singled out among his brothers and crowned the King of Israel.

However, David’s life was also a controversial one due to his many shortcomings. But in spite of his sins, David’s unfettered commitment to God sums up his person. This was perhaps the reason God laid a table before him in the presence of his enemies.

Our God, the God of David, is still able, even more than able to prepare tables for us in

the presence of our enemies.

It is important to situate the “table” in question in the appropriate context. Literally, a table can be described as a piece of furniture with a level surface that can be used for eating, writing, or working. One of the things tables are used for is eating, especially in banquets, dinners and buffets.

I often attend such events when chanced. I enjoy the atmosphere of such events and the synergy it brings.

Such events also avail me the opportunity preach the Word while socialising. The bible makes us to

know that God commands His blessings in such an atmosphere (Psalm 133:1-3).

From a spiritual standpoint, however, a “prepared table”,

among other things, connotes favour, open doors, grace, unwarranted blessings etc. More importantly, it could

m e a n v i c t o r y o v e r adversaries or difficult situations.

A group of people that constantly ate from God’s prepared table are the Israelites. They

A Table Before Youdid eat from His “prepared table” during their journey from Egypt to the Promised Land. Their meals came in form of manna from heaven and they overcame the numerous obstacles in their way.

I have thought about the reason God set a table in front of David and not behind or beside him. I came to the conclusion that God wants us to be forward looking always. Forward ever and backward never. It is my prayer that the anointing to eat from God’s prepared table should fall upon you from today henceforth. The importance of this anointing cannot be overemphasised. It was this anointing that kept David while living as a fugitive for 13 years. It was also this anointing that empowered him to kill Goliath and 1000 Philistines in order to pay his dowry to marry King Saul’s daughter.

With this anointing, every power chasing you away from your blessings will be defeated, every obstacle in your path to greatness will be removed, and every trap surrounding your glory will be destroyed in Jesus name.

Lastly, two things that can debar us from eating on God’s prepared table are our unwillingness and disobedience. If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land: But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it…Isaiah 1:19-20

The Holy Bible documents countless people that lost out of God’s favour due to their disobedience. Adam and Eve, King Saul, Gehazi, and Judas Iscariot are prominent names in this regard. My prayer is that we will all be willing and obedient. After all, obedience is better than sacrifice.

HESE T are the words of the Lord and they are sharper than any two edged sword piercing into the bone and marrow of any child. The question is why would any child hear these words and decide not to

live long. Literally if any child does not honour his or her father and mother; such a child has decided not to live long in the Land. As parents we are quick to use these words whether we use it right or not is something we have to think about. Sometimes parents use it manipulatively. However, parents forget that children are the heritage of the Lord (Psalm 127:3). The same Bible says - “Train up a Child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6). In other words for children to get this reward there we parents have work to do.

First and foremost, the personality and character of a child can be formed way before a child reaches adulthood. A new born baby knows nothing about how we live in this world, we teach the baby. The environment we put the child, the drama we play out, our words, the doctrines we introduce, the people we associate with all go a long way to form a child’s perspective on life.

Parents are given the responsibility by God to teach a child rightly, especially in the way of the Lord- Not for their selfish benefits but to please God. Parents should endeavour not to communicate these teachings wrongly.

The aspect of communication is very crucial in teaching and helping children to grow and listen. Communication in love is the key. Once I read in an article and it says” if a child lies to you, it is your fault”. Children already know how parents will respond , so they tell you what will make you feel good about them, meanwhile it is the parents duty to assure the child that no matter the situation you can confide in me.

Children are good observers, especially the ones that grow up in parts of Africa; who are told to always keep quiet and not encouraged to express their views. Parents will agree that a child observing you for the past 18years can deduce if your actions are different from what you say or not.

It is necessary to embrace the school of thought that parents should be their children’s best friends. Best friends are always there when the going is good and when it is bad. We should not leave the learning process for our children to figure out, either from their friends or the outside world. The truth we want our children to learn should come from us not an outsider, if we do not create time for them definitely someone else will. They can learn from TV, friends, social media or from us as individual. Which way do we want them to go?

Parent-ChildrenCommunication

Exceeding GreatReward

by AFOLAKEMI OMISAKIN

No matter how we see it, children make comparison, and make decisions about how they intend to live their lives and parents’ contributions in a child’s life influences the decisions made by such a child. Once, I learnt from a friend that a pregnant woman who smiles a lot would give birth to a happy child - that depicts the extent of influence parents’ communication have on children. In other words a happy home breeds happy children. Meanwhile, some children realize their parents’ mistakes and disconnect themselves. However, my admonition today is not towards the children but parents – the first 10years of a child’s life is very important. If you are a role model to your own child – I congratulate you today and appreciate your effort because you have definitely impacted the life of an individual; no matter how you see it, the child looking up to you especially the teenage ones have analysed you and come to a conclusion that you are worth it, so do not take it for granted.

Note that the opening scriptures emphasize on the benefits to be obtained when children honour their parents but Proverbs 22:6 emphasize on the responsibilities of parents to the children. Also Ephesians 6:4 ‘Fathers do not exasperate your children; instead bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord”. I have heard testimonies of how some parents do not encourage their children to preach the gospel and dissuade children from going all out for God. While we may think as parents we have a point, when the child stops going to Church, hears the word less, don’t forget the child might dishonour you because the moral doctrine originates from the Holy Bible, the world has nothing to offer but shame and dishonour. The same doctrine we do not want the kids to adhere so much too or get addicted to, we want to scold them with it; it brings about conflicting of thoughts in a child’s’ mind.

Also, there is the need to give opportunities, time to our children to dialogue with us as parents; it helps us to understand them and their line of thinking and thus as parents address issues wisely.

Parents when we communicate rightly, not only do we enjoy these children, we win souls to Christ as well, for our first assignment as Christian parents is to our children. Apart from the peace we have here on earth, there is an exceeding greater reward in Heaven.

Parents we need to take up the mantle as adults who have brought a child to the world not to meet our own needs but to move the kingdom of God forward through them. As we seek God first in our families and in the lives of our Children, all other things shall be added unto us (Matthew 6:33).

May the merciful Lord strengthen us to do work set before us in Jesus name (Amen).

Exodus 20:12 – “Honour your father and mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you”

Ephesians 6:1-3 - “Children obey your parents in the Lord for this is right, Honour your father and your mother so that it may be well with you and that you may live long on earth”.

From The Editor’s Desk

N

Obehalf of the Editorial Board and the Editorial Department, I

welcome you to another edition of the EVERLASTING and also to the Ninth Anniversary of the Redeemed Christian Church of

God (RCCG), Everlasting Father's Assembly, Leeds.

How time flies. It seemed like yesterday when we gathered together to appreciate the Almighty Father for the 8th Anniversary. But as it is said, time flies when you are having fun. I guess in our situation we can literarily say time flies when we are getting blessed. There is no doubt, as a parish we have been blessed immensely in the past years. Individually, our mouths have been filled with praise songs and testimonies of divine blessings and how good the Lord has been to us.

It is the ninth year of RCCG EFA Leeds, and here we are once again to celebrate the faithfulness of the Almighty Father. The year 2014 was a very eventful one in the parish and evidently the hand of God has been manifesting in all our activities.

The successful staging of the first ever "Church in the City" programme in the Leeds City Centre was a testimony to God's faithfulness. By the programme so many "unchurched" people were reached, thereby propagating the word of God further.

It was a very creative year for us in the parish as we combined spiritual development with health and social activities. The RCCG EFA Leeds Sports Day revealed hitherto undiscovered sports talents in the parish that would have gotten sports managers green with envy. Along same line was the Workers Appreciation Night where all workers gathered together and "socially" enjoyed themselves. The aim of the night, according to Pastor Samuel Obafaiye was to appreciate and honour the workers for their hard work and dedication to the service of God.

The year 2015 has been of tremendous blessings for us as well. There has been testimonies of dream jobs, promotions, divine uplifting, breakthroughs, immigration victories, favours, divine babies, divine guidance etc. These testimonies confirm the prophecy of “Unprecedented Favours from God” as declared by the Almighty Father, through His son, the shepherd over the parish, Pastor Samuel Obafaiye. In the beginning of the year, he said: “God says, our lives will be characterised with exceeding favours. That favour will outweigh the labour of our hands. That He will compel Mankind to favour us. That people will say of a truth, we must have been favoured by God”.

This season, another prophetic word has gone forth. It is our time for “Exceeding Great Rewards”. “Reward” is giving something to an individual in recognition of his/her services, efforts, or achievements. A straight forward definition it seems. But as individuals we have different interpretations of the word. So also do we have different expectations of rewards for a service or commitment.

Although the words – reward and compensation - have different meanings, we often hear people use them interchangeably. Compensation is good, but what the Lord has promised His people is REWARD. Mind you, it is not just ordinary reward we are talking about here. It is Exceeding Great Reward. In this wise our expectation should be very high, as it is divine.

Many times unbelievers doubt if there are really any rewards for them if they surrender their lives to Jesus Christ. No matter how hard one tries to explain, it does not catch up with them. However, reward do not take place in a “vacuum”, there has to be a corresponding action. The

This Season,You Shall Be

lives to Christ and live by His words. To receive the reward promised we must be guided by Colossians 3: 23-24 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.

May our expectations not be cut short in Jesus name. This edition of EVERLASTING is a collector's item. Just as we were rounding up the production, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) visited Leeds on the 19th of July, 2015. The event which took place at the Centenary Hall of the Leeds United Stadium on Elland Road was well attended by Christians of all denominations from in and around the city. The theme of the special Sunday service was “The Lord is My Shepherd”. We have a few photographs from the event in this edition.

I commend this 9th Anniversary Magazine to you. All the articles featured will definitely bless you one way or the other. Pastor Samuel Obafaiye reminded us that for the Lord to reward us (set table before us), we need to be willing and obedient while Pastor (Mrs) Anthonia Obafaiye assured us that God will declare His power against our enemies. Amen.

Most times we declare “health is wealth”, but in reality do we put emphasis on our health? In her piece, “Minimising Stress”, Dr. Funke Bakare enlightened us on how to combat stress, which is a silent killer. It is a “must read”. Do you know correction do cause frictions between friends or family members? Please read Sister Ogaga Boyo's article on how to avoid this. Sister Afolakemi Omisakin has brilliantly written on the most important topic in the home, Parent – Children Communication. We know many children do “lose their heads” when the communication line between them and their parents is broken.

Brother Akin Ajayi's piece on letting Jesus steer the wheel of our decisions is literarily on same page with Sister Dammie Adebayo's submission that as Christians we need to be honest and truthful to ourselves. What gain is there in living a false “christian” life?

I believe the interview with the amiable chairman of the RCCG EFA Leeds Board of Trustees, Dr. Abiye Hector-Goma will “refresh” your minds exceedingly. He talks extensively on evangelism, marriage and reward in service.

Finally, I wish to thank all the contributors and members of the Editorial Department for their hard work and sincerity of purpose. God will reward us exceedingly in Jesus name.

However, as long as you belong to Jesus, there is a consolation and joy that when this happens victory is sure. We are more than Conquerors through Christ Jesus that has called and loved us. Brethren let us to examine the biblical text under the context of God declaring His power, through us, for us and against our enemies. Before God can declare His power through us, we need to make ourselves available, by yielding our body, soul and spirit to Him. We must be ready to do whatever He says we should do even if it might cost us our lives in the process. The Bible says we should not be afraid of the one that can only kill the body but the One that can destroy the body and soul in Hell (Matt. 10:28).

The Bible says if anyone loses his life for the sake of the gospel, he will find his life, in other words he will be rewarded with Eternal life. Apostle Paul says in Gal. 2:20:- I am crucified with Christ nevertheless I live yet not I but Christ lives in me and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of God who loved me and gave himself for me.

We must be ready to spend and be spent for our God (2 Cor. 12: 15) ‘And I will very gladly spend and be spent for you though the more abundantly I love you the less I be loved’.Salvation is free even though someone paid with His life (the blood of Jesus) but sustaining that salvation is not cheap. The work of sustaining your salvation begins from the day you give your life to Jesus and accept Him as Lord and saviour. The Bible says in Phillip. 2:12 that we should work out our salvation with fear and trembling. The three Hebrew men knew their God (Dan. 11:32) ‘They that know their God shall be strong and do exploits for Him’. They were in a strange land yet they were singing the Lord's song, and refused to be

d e f i l e d with the meat and wine that came from the king's table. They also refused to worsh ip the created even if it meant defying the king of the land.

They did not only stop at surrendering themselv es to God but they made themselv es available for Him to declare His p o w e r through them. The Bible says in D a n . 3:17-18, the three Hebrew men said, 'If it be so, Our God whom we serve is

able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace and He will deliver us out of thine hand, O king But if not, we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up'.

Brethre, because o f t h e i r unshaken faith in God, He was moved a step f o r w a r d t o d e c l a r e H i s power & glory for them. The

k i n g w a s furious and

these boys had defied his authority and he commanded that the furnace be heated seven times more and mighty men should bound and cast them into the burning fiery furnace.

But instead of the furnace consuming these three Hebrew men, the furnace became an air- conditioned room for them. The Bible said in Isa. 43:2 that the Lord Himself was in the fire with them. The Helper of The helpless did not send ministering angels, instead He showed up for them Himself to honour their faith.

This was attested to by king Nebuchadnezzar in Dan 3:25 'Lo, I see 4 men loose, walking in the midst of the fire and they have no hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God’.

The Lord Himself will show up for you on the day of trouble in Jesus name.

This is another realm of God's power and glory when He provides an escape route to deliver you but makes it a trap for your enemies. In Exo.14: 1-29, the Bible says God parted the Red Sea for the children of Israel to walk through as if it were a highway and yet He caused the waters to return and cover Pharoah and his host. As promised by the Lord, the children of Israel saw their enemies no more.

Brethren the language, speech and the decree of king Nebuchadnezzar changed when he saw the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego declare His power through them, for them and against their enemies. The king, a heathen began to declare the power of the of these men (Dan. 3:26-30).

Prov. 16:7 says, 'When the ways of a man pleases God, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him. When we allow God to declare His power through us there is always promotion and elevation from Him. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were promoted in the land by king Nebuchadnezzar (Dan. 3:30).

May the Almighty Father bless us immensely in this season of declaring His power and even beyond in Jesus name.

God declaring His power against our enemies:

REMEMBER

“that it is The Lord your God who gives you the

power to become rich. He does this because He is still faithful today to the covenants that He made with your ancestors.

Never forget The Lord your God or turn to other gods to worship and serve them. If you do, then I warn you today that you will certainly be destroyed. If you do not obey The Lord, then you will be destroyed just like those nations that he is going to destroy as you advance.

Brethren trusting and obeying God is the key to receiving His promises, the last stanza of the hymn ‘There shall be showers of blessings says ‘There shall be showers of blessing, if we but trust and obey, there shall be seasons of refreshing, if we let God have his way’.

It will be impossible for us to trust and obey God fully, wholly and completely if we do not love and fear Him, Job 28:28 says ‘And unto man He said, Behold the fear of The Lord, that is wisdom and to depart from evil is understanding’.

Matt.6:33 says ‘Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and every other thing will be added unto you’.

Brethren I can assure you that seeking will be difficult and challenging if we do not love the King of the kingdom.

He will do. when and how He chooses. Our duty when facing afflictions first is to pray and seek wisdom (James 1:5). The answer might be the prayer alone, or the box of Paracetamol, the phone call to the GP for an appointment or an urgent trip to the Emergency Department. Healing remains the children’s bread.

In the article, 2067: the end of British Christianity, Damian Thompson opines, “Christianity is dying out among the Anglo-Saxon and Celtic inhabitants of Great Britain. The Gospel that Augustine and his 30 monks brought to England when they landed in Ebbsfleet in AD 597 is now being decisively rejected.”In Deuteronomy 6:6, we are reminded, “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in our house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.”

Q:- Historically, the United Kingdom is regarded as "exporter" of Christianity to continents such as Africa and Asia. However, it seems the fire of evangelism has literally died down with church buildings converted to clubs, pubs etc. What do you think went wrong and when?

The teaching and practising of Christ-like living waned in homes. In churches, the gospel was watered down as secularisation took centre-stage. The Word was taken out of schools and communities and almost confined to the church building. Above all, church folk were content to go through the motions of religious worship and were no longer salt and light to the world. Technology, sports, travel are other reasons why there is a decline in attendanceThough there has been a steady decline in church going between 1890 and 2001, Sunday church attendance was almost halved between 1968 and 1991.

Taking an example from Leeds City, there has been a remarkable increase in the number of churches not affiliated to the Church of England in the last decade. Evangelical Alliance made the

Q:- With this waning fire in the UK churches, Christianity is now "imported" from outside the European corridor with a growing number of churches with origins from Africa and Asia in the UK. Have these churches impacted at all on the society?

‘Marriages MustMeet God’sStandard’Dr. Abiye Hector Goma is a man of many colours. He is a Christian, family man, medical doctor by profession, a well respected community leader and the chairman, Board of Trustees of RCCG Everlasting Father’s Assembly, Leeds. In this interview with the Executive Editor, M. Babajide-Alabi, Dr. Goma bares his mind on many topical issues

Can you tell us briefly about yourself, sir?

As a medical doctor and a born again Christian, what is your view about faith and medication? Does taking medicine for ailment make a Christian of less faith?

Approaching my Jubilee Year, I am the last born of my parents. I lost my father in the Nigerian Civil War and have no recollection of him. I was brought up by a God-fearing mother and school teacher who was a firm disciplinarian. Thanks to her steadfast love and God’s plan for my life, today I have a clear understanding of what is good and what is bad. I am a General Medical Practitioner, married to a virtuous woman, Modupe, the mother of our three beautiful girls.

I have heard some servants of God say that they have not even taken Paracetamol since they gave their lives to God. I have also known several men and women of faith who won many souls for the kingdom but suffered terminal illnesses. The human being has body, mind and soul. Illness can be in one or more of these dimensions. Medication deals primarily with the physical dimension and sometimes the mind. A holistic approach to health includes the dimensions of the soul and the spirit. My view is that health professionals have been given wisdom by God. The drugs and other interventions we use take their root in Genesis 1:28-30. Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? (Jeremiah 8:22). Should we put God in a box? ‘No!’ His thoughts are not our thoughts, neither are our ways His way. (Isaiah 55:8). God will do what

‘The Lord Is My Shepherd’T I was an historic day in the city of Leeds on July 19, 2015 when the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God

(RCCG) Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye ministered at a Special Sunday Service.

The event, held at the Leeds United Centenary Hall was well-attended by members of the R C C G a n d C h r i s t i a n s f r o m o t h e r denominations in and around the city.

The theme was “The Lord is my Shepherd”. Pastor Adeboye said his coming to Leeds was

decided by God to be a special day of favour for an individual. He said anytime God passes through a city, it is always because of one person as “divine visitation happens by divine decision.”

Pastor Adeboye said the Almighty Father is looking for an individual to release His awesome power on. He reiterated that God will only do this when He finds someone who will respond to Him instantly and completely.

He cannot release His power to someone who is

in today and out tomorrow. To qualify for this power you must be “sold out for Him”, he said. “Are you the one?” Daddy GO asked the congregation.

Earlier on during the Liberty Prayer, Pastor Samuel Obafaiye admonished the audience to thank the Almighty for making them a part of the historic gathering, which was the first visit of Pastor E.A. Adeboye to the city of Leeds.

Monthly Themes January - June 2015

NVITATION I always precedes a banquet. Distinguished persons are always sent invitations asking them to come and be part of special occasions. Whenever God arranges a ‘banquet’, He also sends out invitation to those He wants to be there (Mt. 22:1-4; Isaiah 55:1-2; Rev. 22:17). At a time in history, God had in mind a ‘banquet of favour’ to start a holy nation unto Himself. So He looked through the earth and sent out an invitation to a man called

Abraham to travel from Mesopotamia and attend (Gen. 12:1-3). The banquet of favour was to make a great nation out of Abraham; to bless him; make his name great; make him to be a blessing to others; to bless to who blesses him and curse those who curses him; and that through him all the nations of the world will be blessed. In this month of January, God is sending out an invitation of favour to Everlasting Father’s Assembly. He has prepare a banquet to make us a great people of His; to bless us; to make our name great; to use us as a blessing to other people; to bless those who blesses us and to curse those who curses us; and also to use us to bless other nations of the world. For these to happen, God wants us to cleave unto Him from the start of this year to the very end. We must put aside every other thing that might want to compete with Him in our lives. We shall activate this favour in Jesus name.

ABOURL can be defined as working hard or making great effort. It can also be defined as toil, slave away, sweat away, struggle, strive, etc. As children of God, the bible encourages us to work hard and make greet effort in life (Prov. 22:29; Psalm 128:2; Ephesians 4:28; 2 Thes. 3:7-12). But working hard can only take one to a certain level in life, to proceed beyond that point; one will require a supernatural push.

In John 5:1-15, the bible tells us of a man who had an infirmity for 38 years. He had laboured severally and yearly to be made whole but all his efforts were futile. One day, he was shown unprecedented favour. Jesus located him amongst many silk folks, healed him alone and walked away, even on a Sabbath day! At the command of Jesus to rise and walk, he became well. All the labours and toils of 38 years were gone in a moment.Jacob slaved away for Laban, his father in law for about 20 years. He worked very hard and made a lot of effort to serve Laban with the hope that Laban will settle him well. But no, his father in law was prepared to cheat him. God however stepped in and grant Jacob unprecedented favour in just a short space of time that he became very wealthy. Many of us certainly work really hard, which is good. God however is restating His word to us that in 2015, which is our year of unprecedented favour, He will make us to excel beyond all our labours, hard work and exertion. In this month, our favours and blessings shall surpass the labours we exert in Jesus name.

OMPENSATION

C has several definitions. We can however define it as ‘money that is paid to someone in exchange for something that has been lost or

damaged; or the combination of money and other benefits, i.e. rewards that an employee receives for doing their job’. When the person paying the money or rewards is God, it can then be said to be Divine Compensation.

In life, the compensation one receives will be determined by who you work for; what you do for them; how many years you have worked for them; and for how many hours each day you put in to the work. So that two people doing the same job, for the same hours per day/week, for the same number of years can be paid differently, because of who they work for. Some employers are very mean while some are very generous. It also goes that some employers are themselves struggling while others are very wealthy. So that compensation or remuneration actually depends mainly on whom one works for. The best employer to work for and work with though is the Almighty God. His compensation is unmatched. In Mark 10: 29-30, Peter asked Jesus what will be their compensation for working with Him. Jesus told them that they will receive a hundred times of anything they sacrificed (with persecution); eternal life; and thrones in their next life. What a compensation! For the month of March 2015, what I keep hearing is ‘compensation’ from God. Losses are to be recovered; damages to be repaired; work to be greatly rewarded; eternity to be perfected and assured; and authority given. These shall be our portion in Jesus name.

OVENANT

C is an agreement, usually formal between two or more persons to do or not to do something specified. From Biblical point of view, it is the

conditional promises made to humanity by God, as revealed in the scriptures. God is Someone that cherishes covenants and always seeks to enact same. Right from the beginning of the Bible, we see how God enters into covenants with Adam (Gen 2: 15-17); Noah (Gen 9: 1-15; Abram (Gen 12: 1-3); etc.

God specifically enacted generational covenants with Abraham, of which the natural children of Israel still enjoy to date. Covenants are always conditional, so that if one party fails to fulfil his/her part, the other party will no longer be bound by the covenant. This is also true with God enacted covenants (Ex. 20: 5-6; Deut. 28:1-14). However, by special grace and unusual favour, God can still continue a covenanted blessing unconditionally if He chooses to do so (Jer. 33: 19-22; I Kings 11: 11-13; Ex. 2: 24-25).By the extension of God’s grace upon RCCG Mission and both the founder and the present overseer; God is promising us in Everlasting Father’s Assembly that He will grant us covenanted blessings enjoyed and being enjoyed by the Mission from her inception and those enjoyed by her two overall leaders. God will miraculously meet all our needs; make us a model to the world; make others to come and learn and worship with us; and preserve us for Jesus coming. Also, for some of us who will be prepared to rely solely on God; He said, He is prepared to establish new generational covenants with us that will distinguish us from His other creatures.

N I Christianity, grace is a Divine favour bestowed freely on people as in granting redemption from sin; or an excellent power granted by God. God can bestow different kinds of His grace to different people at varying levels. So that someone that has grace in a particular area of their life may yet be trusting God for His grace in another area. Also, two people with the grace of God in same area may be operating at different levels of power.

In 2 Corinthians 8:1-7, Apostle Paul wrote to the church in Corinth regarding a special grace they lacked, the grace of giving. He commended them as touching their grace of faith, utterance, knowledge, help and love to the saints, but that they needed to abound in the grace of giving also.Apostle Paul gave them an example of the church at Macedonia, that though they were not as wealthy, but they were sacrificial givers. They gave their time, energy and money sacrificially. He therefore sent Titus whom The Lord used to initiate this particular grace to Corinth in order that they too might receive the grace of giving also. In 3 John 1:2, God assured believers that He is not only interested in our grace of salvation, but also of good health and prosperity. It is in the light of this, that God is promising us in Everlasting Father’s Assembly that from this month and onwards, He will grant us the power to excel in other areas, apart from those grace we now enjoy. He will bless us with the grace to demonstrate faith; utterance; knowledge; eagerness to serve; love for the brethren; sacrificial giving; prosperity; Divine health; boldness; etc. May these grace touch every one of us in Jesus name.

TTENTIONA can be defined as “notice taken of someone or something; the regarding of someone or something as interesting; or the action of dealing with or taking special care of or something”. Everyone desires attention: whether young or old. It could be required from parents, siblings, children, friends, employers, in-laws, fans or even the general public. Attention can give birth to care, assistance, recognition, correction, applause,

commendation, promotion, popularity, etc. In life, the best and most transformative attention one can receive is from God i.e. Divine attention. Whoever God attends to, Earth must do the same.In Acts 10:1-4, while God was still working on the Jews as touching redemption, He gave attention to Cornelius who was a gentile. Heaven recorded that the acts of Cornelius was known by God as well as what he lacked, so that God tried to find a special way to reward him. Cornelius and his household were singled out for salvation, and surprisingly baptised by God, so that they became a special breed of God’s children.God continuously look throughout the earth to see anyone He could give attention. Whenever He finds someone, He concentrates on the fellow, and such life becomes an envy of many.In this month of June, it is God’s desire to give heed to us; pay us keen attention and be of assistance to us. He said our welfare will be His primary interest; and that He will reward us with such things we never thought of or imagined. May the Spirit of God do all these in Jesus name.

observation that while traditional churches have declining attendance, with approximately twenty of such buildings closing every year in UK, there is a rise in church attendance amongst Evangelical assemblies. I am hopeful that these churches will make impact in society. There are several levels of impact I would like to see. We have thousands of people living in poverty – widows, orphans, single-parent families, drug and alcohol addicts, asylum seekers, people with long term conditions, the elderly, etc. I would like to see God’s people walking alongside these people more and doing fewer routine events. I would like us to volunteer more in places where we can show His love. When I look at our Annual Report at EFA, I am pleased that as a church we are supporting many of such organisations financially every year. As one visits different congregations, the visible impact will take place when I see people from different nations – Africans, Europeans, Asians, Americans, etc worshipping God in each church not the current near 100% African congregations in so-called ‘black majority churches’. I would like our churches to reflect the ethnic statistics of where we are located.

Long before the Prime Minister’s visit to the Festival of Life, God created the first family. He created Eve for Adam, first for companionship and to bring forth Godly offspring. A nation that turns its back on God cannot talk about family values. The family is not a creation of the State. It was created by God and family values have their foundation in God, not the school system, NHS, Social Services or the family courts. The role of the church has never changed, to preach and teach the good news. As the song states, “With Jesus in the family, what a happy home!”

This is a difficult one though it should be a straightforward answer. There have been recurring high profile marriage breakdowns among some highly respected church leaders. Such sad events have a negative impact on the church and the faith of young believers. Unfortunately, statistics suggest that divorce rate in many churches are not different from that among unbelievers. The good news is that there is no room for divorce when two people submit their lives to Christ and he has joined them together with himself. The Church (the body of Christ church) which we represent holds on to that fundamental teaching, “what God has joined together let no man put asunder”. (Matthew 19:6, Mark 10:9). Despite the winds, storms, floods and fires thrown at our marriages and families by the vicissitudes of life, we will stand. Those who preach a watered-down gospel believe it is alright to separate when trouble comes your way. The bible-based church continues to hold on to the never-changing divine principles of marriage, for with God all things are possible. However, we have not gone far to restore the lost value. First, let our marriages within the church reflect the standards of Christ. More importantly, we need to reach out to couples and families outside of the church and let them know in love, that marriage was ‘manufactured’ by God and we all have to return to the owner’s manual (the Bible), to get the best out of our marriages.

Many women are single by chance not choice. Some of their husbands walked out on them. Some left home with their children or kicked their husbands out of their matrimonial homes. Of course, some are widows. There are those who added a child to complete their homes after successful careers and employ nannies to bring up the children. Whatever category of single motherhood, that is not God’s divine plan for them because He made the man the spiritual head of the home. In their situation, if they are already in Christ, they should seek His wisdom and He will always give them the direction for their homes. Many single

The Prime Minister David Cameron was at the RCCG Festival of Life in London in April and spoke on the value of the family. Do you see the church helping in this direction?

Many people have complained that the society do not encourage the sustainability of the family values, when single motherhood is celebrated than marriage. Do you support this view?

The family and marriage are two values seriously under strain in the society right now. In your opinion how far has the church gone in restoring the lost values?

mothers have done exceptionally well, bringing up their children alone but in Gen 2:18, the Lord said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for Him.” The God that created the woman to be the man’s companion would not in the 21st Century expect us to celebrate single motherhood.

In one of his teachings on marriage, the late Myles Munroe said everyone requiring a driver’s licence had to go through a rigorous process of theory and practical tests before getting a licence but people can get married willy-nilly. Society pays greater interest to your car than your marriage. The first step to checking the growing number of divorces in the church is to ensure that prospective couples get adequate tutelage. Marriage is until death or the second coming of Christ so churches should take a long time to prepare people for marriage. Single men and women should be physically, economically and spiritually mature before they get married. Pastor Odukoya (MFM Ministries) described evidence of spiritual maturity as ‘hearing God’s voice’. This is important to know your life partner. When people are grounded in Christ, they are more likely to be steadfast when trials come their way. The church should celebrate marriages on a regular basis. Marriage enrichment should be a life wire of the church. Some would say this will have a

negative impact on single parent families in church. That is not true. Relevant support should also be in place for these families. Finally, couples should know the early warning signs of trouble, talk things over regularly, pray first thing and last thing at night holding hands every day so they can ‘shut de door, shut de devil in the night, everything’s gonna be alright.’

We all know the Parable of the Talents. God is a Rewarder. What I sow is what I will reap. In Jeremiah 17:10, it is written, ‘I, the Lord search the heart and examine the mind, to

reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve.” (emphasis mine). And in Revelations 22:12, “Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with me, to render to every man according to what he has done.”

I am drawn to Psalm 139:16, “Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”

God already has His plan for Everlasting Father’s Assembly. I thank God for Pastors Sam and Antonia, the Board members, church leaders and all God’s people. We are indeed blessed! God has it all written down: who would do what, when, where and how. He has it all worked out. As long as we walk and work according to His plan, all will be well.

Unfortunately there are growing number of divorces in the church. How can this be checked?

The theme for the RCCG EFA Leeds 9th Anniversary is Exceeding Great Reward. How can a worker in the Lord's vine yard experience this reward? Benefits of service.

As the chairman of the Board of Trustees, what is your goodwill message to the church?

STRESSSTRESSWHAT IS STRESS?

TELL-TALE SIGNS OF STRESS?

IS STRESS HARMFUL?

Is there a type of person who is more likely to experience stress?

Type A Personality:

Type B Personality:

TRESS S

Physical signs:

Emotions:

On-going stress is bad for health.

i s when the demands of life become too much to cope with.

The ability to cope varies from person to person, what one finds stressful may not be a problem for another. Some people thrive on a busy lifestyle and are able to cope well with daily stresses. Other people feel tensed or stressed by the slightest change from their set daily routine. Most people fall somewhere in between, but may have periods when levels of stress increase. Long term stress is bad for our health.

Headaches, muscle tension/pain, stomach problems, sweating, feeling dizzy, bowel or bladder problems, breathlessness or palpitation, dry mouth, tingling in body, sexual problems, feeling tired all the time

Feeling irritable at minor problems, anxious or tense, feeling low, lack of interest/pleasure, feeling bad about yourself.Effects on what you do: Temper outbursts, drinking or smoking too much, changes in eating habits, withdrawing from usual activities, becoming unreasonable, being forgetful/clumsy, rushing around, not being able to sleep properly with worries going through your mind, difficulty concentrating on tasks, difficulty making decisions.

Stress is a risk factor for developing heart problems, high blood pressure, severe depression, stroke, migraine, severe anxiety, asthma, low resistance to infection, bowel problems stomach problems e.g. ulcers, fatigue, sleep problems. Irritable bowel syndrome, psoriasis, migraine, tension headaches, and other conditions are made worse by an increased level of stress. Work performance and relationships may also be affected by stress.

Type A personalities tend to be more prone compared to Type B personalities.

Must get things finished, never late for appointments, competitive, can’t listen to conversations, interrupt, finish sentences for others, always in a hurry, don’t like to wait, very busy at full speed, trying to do more than one thing at a time, want everything perfect, do everything fast, hold feelings in, not satisfied with work/life, few social activities/interests, take work home.

Don’t mind leaving things unfinished for a while, calm and unhurried about appointments, not competitive, can listen and let the other person finish speaking, never in a hurry even when busy, can wait calmly, easy going, take one thing at a time, don’t mind not quite perfect, slow and deliberate speech, do things slowly, express feelings, quite satisfied with

work/life, Many social activities/interests, don’t take work home.

The first step is to become aware that it is a problem for you, next is to make a plan to take control of the causes and effects of stress.

You can try making a stress list. Try keeping a diary over a few weeks and list the times, places, and people that aggravate your stress levels. A pattern may emerge. Is it always the traffic on the way to work that sets things off to a bad start for the day? Perhaps it's the supermarket check-out, next door's dog, a work colleague, request for money or something similar that may occur regularly and cause you stress.

- Holiday, try to plan at least one each year- Open up, communicate-Work-hat are your options, retrain?, delegate?, get more support.

- Try to concentrate on the present- Own up to yourself that you are feeling stressed

on 5 or more occasions per week, walking is good.- Say no and don’t feel guilty-Seek professional help if stress persists.

This means taking a long, slow breath in, and very slowly breathing out. If you do this a few times, and concentrate fully on breathing, you may find it quite relaxing. Some people find that moving from chest breathing to tummy (abdominal) breathing can be helpful. Sitting quietly, try putting one hand on your chest and the other on your abdomen. You should aim to breathe quietly by moving

your abdomen with your chest moving very little. This encourages the diaphragm to work efficiently and may help you avoid

over-breathing.

Try twisting your neck around each way as far as it is comfortable, and then relax. Try fully tensing your shoulder and back muscles for several seconds, and then relax completely. Try practising these simple techniques when you

ROWING up as a kid in a Christian home had its perks and responsibilities. For me a huge advantage was the never boring Gnature of Sundays particularly and Church activities in general. I

really could not get my head round what made Sunday so special for me. I still sit back and reflect nowadays and ask if it was the quizzes at the Sunday School and the prizes that would accompany them, the excitement of the drama presentations or the opportunity to wear your nicest clothes?

No matter how much I try to analyse, Sunday was always a day for celebrations (of some sort). As a child instilled with the values of Christianity, right from a young age, I had “tuned” myself to the fact that I am expected to be the poster-child for my peers and contemporaries. I recall that at the tender age of eight, I had to conduct myself in an inspiring manner and act as a role model to my mates. To be honest, this was quite some standard, that adults even struggle to maintain.

But rolling forward a few years to my mid-teen years, I joined the youth drama group in the church. It was a very enjoyable experience for me. A challenge came when during an annual convention of the church, I was assigned a role in the drama presentation, that I thought was not best suited to me. I reacted in a not so noble way to this assignment and was inconsolable for a while.. After a few weeks, I proceeded to psycho-analyse myself (YES, even at fifteen years of age) and my conduct during this ‘dramatic episode’ (pun

intended). My conclusion was that probably I was not good in acting as I thought I was because a good actor should be able to take on any role I assigned to him and “smash” it. It was a moment of truth for me.

The resultant effect of this was my conclusion that if I will be a full-fledged worker in Church as an adult, it would be a role to which I am best suited.

There is indeed a purpose to this story, and the purpose is to encourage the ones among us who just like me, tend to over-think having responsibilities within the Church. It is alright not to have the natural ability to play certain roles within the Church, but if indeed you are led by the Spirit of God to play a part, He will definitely help you hone the skills you need to make sure you succeed in that role.

And if I may add, do not be too critical when assessing your performance, because it is not your place to determine whether you are a runaway success or not. That is for Our Father in Heaven to judge. And if you today pick up the courage to start to contribute in your own little way (like I have finally decided to do) and let Jesus steer the wheel, I dare say there shall be exceedingly great rewards.

Let Jesus Steer The Wheelby AKIN AJAYI

“ Lucy”, I heard Sandra’s voice call my name and I jolted back to

life. “Hey Sandie, how are you?” I asked.

“I am alright darling, yourself?” Sandie replied. “I am good love” I said back.Let me introduce myself, my name is Lucy, 22 year old young lady, a graduate with a very good job, a car and an apartment of my own. My life seem perfect to people around me as they call material things perfection. I do play along with them and not bother to change people's thoughts about me or my life.

Oh! Did I tell you I am saved too? Yes I am saved. I have answered the altar call before. I attend every weekly prayer meetings and also take my seat among the brethren in church every Sunday. I know many people erroneously believe that doing the above mean you are saved. But I know better. Most people get it all mixed up, especially when it seems their prayers are answered, and they are moving up in the ladder of life.

Look, it is quite easy to think like this when you have all the material things your mates are still struggling to acquire. And because of your material worth, you become that person everybody look up to for advice, help in prayer and encouragement. You can be lifted up as the model born again.

I have a companion in Sandie, my friend, as people also look up to her. Although her life does not seem 'perfect' as mine, she is still blessed by God. Sandie and I are both youth leaders in church. Because of this role in the church, much is expected of us in how we live our lives, especially being role models to other youths in the church and also not disappoint the leaders. We therefore try as much as possible not to fail them.

“Lucy” Sandie said, “I have something to discuss with you” "I am listening” I replied, wondering what was on her mind. "I know people look up to us and come to us for all sorts of help and advice, but I really need to be honest with you Lucy, I am struggling with a lot of things, which I cannot share with these people who come to me with their problems. Because they believe so much in me, I feel ashamed to confess my situation to them. I am always wondering what will they think of me?

"I am a sinner too. And I feel I may not be worthy to be the person to give helpful advise or counsel. To be honest with you, Lucy, my prayer life has deteriorated, I am constantly going back to sexual sin and keep asking for forgiveness afterward. I am broken and I really need your help to assist me back on my feet.”

By the time Sandie finished this "call for help" I was shocked and overcome

with emotions as tears flow freely down my face. I almost cried out "No, you're lying!", but what came out of my mouth was "Sandie, no one is perfect". I cast a sideway glance at her as I thought in my mind, how can this be true? Sandie that I thought had it all together. So after all I am not the only one who had lost it.

The tears rolled down again. Now it was not because of what my friend told me, but my own story. I felt this is the time for me to come out and seek help too.

"Sandie, you are not alone, I am in the same shoes as you are," I said. "I am a disappointment too. l honestly can’t remember the last time I picked up my bible to read because I have let the things of the World overcome me and the carnal man has taken charge in my life".

Through the tears in my eyes, I could see Sandie's mouth wide open. I do not know if it was in shock or in agreement that she knew all the while that I was a "wolf in sheep's clothing".

I continued:- "Sandie, I think this has thought us a very big lesson and it clearly shows no one can be perfect, even if they come forth as one. We are all trying to be perfect however, we are all still struggling with one thing or the other. "The lesson we learnt is that we need to share our struggles with people we trust. We can only achieve this by being honest with individual self. When we are honest with ourselves we are able to look over whatever we are doing wrong and correct them.

"I think what we need to do is share our struggles with each other ensuring that these people are the people we can trust. Let’s be honest with ourselves, let’s be honest with people that come to us for encouragement, let them know they are not the only ones struggling. By this, people will realise they are perfectly human and are bound to sin but the grace of God can deliver them".

Let’s be honest now, this helps to build a community of Christians who are fighting to ensure the word of God is spread and who are constantly using their lives to preach the word. Remember, your struggle can be someone else’s struggle too, let’s be honest now so we can all encourage each other to be better Christians. “Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices”, Colossians 3:9“If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person's religion is worthless”.James 1:26

Giving and Accepting Correction GraciouslyBy OGAGA BOYO

EVERLASTING | 17

ORRECTION

C

FIVE STEPS IN GIVING A CHEERFUL CORRECTION

is a change that makes something right, true, improve, acceptable, accurate, etc. However, because we struggle so much with pride, correction can be difficult to give and

receive graciously. This can be very evident especially where the supposed corrector is lower in ranking or age than the person been corrected. Also, shame can make it difficult for some to accept correction.

Merriam-Webster define shame as: “a feeling of guilt, regret, or sadness that you have because you know you have done something wrong.” People don’t accept to be wrong because it shames them, and to them, correction bring to light both the shame and the sense of being wrong. Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but whoever hates correction is stupid. Proverb 12:1

Two main characters in the bible that showed a good example of giving and receiving correction can be seen in the lives of Moses and Jethro his father-in-law in the book of Exodus 8. In the story, Jethro, had escorted Zipporah, Moses’ wife (his daughter) and her two sons to rejoin Moses in the wilderness and observe that the people Moses judged stood all day while he alone sat down. (Verse 13). So the father-in-law had to inquire as to why this was so in view to correct any wrong doing. (Verse 14).

When Moses finally took a break, Jethro asked him a clarifying question: “Why do you alone sit and all the people stand around you from morning till evening?” (verse 14). This question was with wisdom and gentleness. Jethro did not judge Moses with what he saw but asked first. This allowed Moses to explain himself.

i When Moses finally took a break, this is when Jethro asked his question. When Moses took a break was the right time and he is sure to be alone where his people will not hear the question been asked. This could arose the pride in some people and will not want to accept the correction

On hearing Moses answer, Jethro said to him, "The thing that you do is not good. Both you and these people who are with you will surely wear yourselves out. For this is too much for you. You are not able to perform it by yourself" (verses 17–18).He was frank and did not rigmarole with his words or try to flatter Moses.

I. Ask Precise Questions

i. Ask the Question in a Conducive Atmosphere and Time

iii. Be Honest don't Flatter

iJethro’s goal wasn’t to demoralize Moses capability but to make him more productive. He observed a problem, sought to understand it, identified the core weakness, and offered a helpful solution (verses 19–23). Jethro aimed to increase the effectiveness of Moses’s time and the same time to meet the people’s needs.

Then Moses let his father-in-law depart, and he went his way to his own land (Verse 27). The verse make us to understand that the father-in-law was with Moses while effecting all these corrections. He did not just advise Moses and went away not minding if he took his correction or not. We should be ready to monitor the positive change whenever we give correction

Because Jethro asked first and with the manner he asked, Moses had to answer him sincerely by saying "Because people come to me to inquire God" (verse 15). He did not try to defend himself by trying to pull spiritual superiority or by saying he was working on something to do about it.

So Moses heeded the voice of his father-in-law and did all that he had said (Verse 24). Moses did not see Jethro as a lesser person to correct him but chose to accept the correction humbly as a result, his work became easier for him as he judged only the difficult cases and smaller cases were judged by his appointed rulers and he became more effective. This is a fruit of accepting correction.

Finally, one of the most loving things anyone can do for you is tell you when you’re wrong . Exodus 8 teaches us how God used Jethro’s correction to assist Moses to greater height and also provision for thousands of people. This implies that God's correction does not just stay with us but also better people around us and far beyond. So, If we stupidly resist correction, we are indirectly closing the doors of grace to others.

THREE ATTRIBUTES OF ACCEPTING CORRECTION

are relaxed, and then use them routinely when you come across any stressful situation.

Set specific times aside to relax positively. Don't just let relaxation happen, or not happen, at the mercy of work, family, etc. Plan it, and look forward to it. Different people prefer different things. A long bath, a quiet stroll, sitting and just listening to a piece of music, etc. These times are not wasteful, and you should not feel guilty about not 'getting on with things'. They can be times of reflection and putting life back in perspective. Some people find it useful to set time aside for a relaxation programme such as meditation or muscular exercises. You can also buy relaxation tapes to help you learn to relax.

Try to allow several times a day to 'stop' and take some time out. For example, getting up 15-20 minutes earlier than you need to is a good start. You can use this time to think about and plan the coming day, and to prepare for the day's events unrushed. Take a regular and proper lunch break, preferably away from work. Don't work over lunch. If work is busy, if possible try to take 5 or 10 minutes away every few hours to relax. Once or twice a week, try to plan some time just to be alone and unobtainable. For example, a gentle stroll or a sit in the park often helps to break out of life's hustle and bustle.

Many people feel that regular exercise reduces their level of stress. (It also

EXERCISE

keeps you fit and helps to prevent heart disease.) Any exercise is good, but try to plan at least 30 minutes of exercise on at least five days a week. A brisk walk on most days is a good start if you are not used to exercise. In addition, if you have difficulty in sleeping this may improve if you exercise regularly.

Don't be fooled that smoking and drinking can help with stress. In the long run, they don't. Drinking alcohol to 'calm nerves' may lead to problem drinking.

Many people find that a hobby which has no deadlines, no pressures, and which can be picked up or left easily, takes the mind off stresses. For example: sports, knitting, music, model-making, puzzles, and reading for pleasure.

Some people find they have times in their life when stress or anxiety becomes severe or difficult to cope with.See a doctor if stress or anxiety becomes worse. Further treatments such as anxiety management counsellingor medication may be appropriate.

YOUR SETTLEMENT IS COMING!

can be defined as: To make out a compensation for a claim; To pay a debt; To put into order; or arranged as desired; To agree to fix in advance; To be establish as a resident of a place; To restore

calmness or comfort to; To come to rest.

God loves to settle His people and He always does. He will do yours too. Hebrews 6:10 – For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

Through all ages, God has always compensated His people or grant them settlement. David was the last of his father’s eight sons. Being the youngest, he ran errands for his family, while also looking after the family sheep. As a result of these roles, he is forgotten most times when the Jesse’s family is blessed. But God was watching! When the time was ripe for God to settle David, He sent Samuel to accomplish this. David’s father, his siblings and Prophet Samuel could not sit down until David arrived from the field to be blessed (I Sam. 13:1-12).

Ruth was such a faithful and pleasant lady, but we read that she suffered in the early part of her life. As a Moabite, it would have been hard culturally for her to marry an Israeli man. But she did. After ten years and no child from the marriage, her husband died. She was left in a state of despair as no Moabite man would have remarried her and the only companion she had, her mother in-law, decided to go back to Canaan.

Ruth followed her mother in-law out of Moab. In Canaan’s tradition, she could only remarry to someone related to her husband but God honoured her faithfulness by arranging her compensation. She was divinely connected with a wealthy man named Boaz, who happened to be the choicest kinsman to her late husband and also the great grandfather of David, and in the linage of Jesus!

Have you just lost something very dear to you? God will compensate you with a greater blessing. Just like Ruth, whatever your Boaz may mean, may God connect you to him.

My father retired from the civil service as a foreman in 1978. He could have attained a higher post if not for the oppression and persecution at work because he refused to be corrupt. God settled him miraculously. While waiting for his gratuity after retirement, he got a letter promoting him twice, and backdating his promotion eight months to reflect in his gratuity and monthly pension! That can only be God.

While Joseph was serving faithfully in his master’s house, Portiphar’s wife saw him and made moves to seduce, entice and persuade him. But Joseph refused all the offers. Not too long, God compensated him greatly.

He became the commander of Pharaoh’s house; the controller of Egypt; and an in-law to the Priest of On – the most revered man after the king!

If the devil is telling you that if you had compromised, on a particular thing, your situation would have been better. Do not be swayed. God will compensate you. What is coming your way will greatly outweigh what you have missed.

In Luke 5: 1-10, the bible tells us how Peter and Andrew toiled unsuccessfully all night to catch fish and were washing their nets in preparation to go home when Jesus asked to borrow their boat to preach. After preaching, He asked them to launch out in the daytime to catch fish. They caught so much fish that their boats began to sink!

Another instance was in John 6:8-13, when Jesus took bread and fishes from a lad to feed five thousand men. After the people had eaten, there were twelve basketful left overs. Biblical history says all these were taken to the home of the lad!

God will settle you. It might appear to be long, but your compensation will surely come.

1. Believe that He is and that He does reward (Heb. 11:6). But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

2. Know and Obey His instructions (Jos 1:8). This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

3. Don’t owe God (Mal. 3:8). Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.

WHAT TO DO TO BE SETTLED BY GOD

Women & StyleS a product of the Living God, we are created wonderfully in His image. He does not make junks. Because He created us to showcase Himself on earth we must strive everyday to reflect this. A

Here are some tips to achieve this.

1. WAKE UP WITH PSALM 139:14 EVERY DAY. Your beauty should come from your inner self and this is of great worth in the sight of God.

2 DEVELOP YOUR STYLE. Your style should be a way of life and should be simple but significant. Style is a way of expressing yourself, to say who you are without having to speak. Fashion can be described as what you are, and style is what you choose.

3. DEFINE YOUR OWN STYLE. Know how to match what fits you best, do something different in terms of accessories and highlighting.

4. GOD MUST BE SEEN IN YOU. You must be classy and fabulous. Your style must be a reflection of who you are, your purpose and value.

5. DRESS THE WAY YOU WILL LOVE TO BE ADDRESSED. Remember you are a royal priesthood, therefore your dressing must reflect your royalty. As a peculiar individual, you have to be unique in your own

way. You do not have to break the bank to look presentable, it's about style and matching.

6. ANALYSE YOUR COLOURS AND CUSTOMISE THEM - Find out what your colour palette is based on your colour tone and your features.

7) ANALYSE YOUR BODY TYPE. Place emphasis on your best features - slim or chubby and match your chosen style to it. By this, you are comfortable in yourself while looking your best as well. So be the "Vogue" by creating your own style.

8) WARDROBE EDITING - Streamline your wardrobe in a way that gives you the opportunity to create dozens of outfit you didn't realise you have. Don't be a stranger to your own wardrobe. Maximise it by creating several styles out of few outfits.

9) PLAN YOUR SHOPPING TRIP - Sit back and picture yourself in types of outfits you think will suit you best. Highlight what you need by carrying out a pre- shopping evaluation.
