Description:

The project consists of the construction of a new vehicle showroom, sales and administrative offices, parts storage, and service facility on the site of an existing recreational vehicle sales and service facility. This site was chosen by the Client not only because they currently own and operate the R.V. facility, but because the site has excellent visibility from both the surrounding streets and the adjacent freeway. Access to the site has been modified so that the R.V. use and the Volkswagen dealership each have individual entrances from the public streets.

The design of the showroom follows the criteria set forth by Volkswagen’s current prototype design and standards. The showroom is designed as a contemporary translucent volume created from aluminum storefront and adorned with plaster and aluminum accents. The view into this volume is highlighted by both the view of the displayed vehicles and the semicircular focal wall and associated corporate graphics.

Description:

The project’s architectural expression is derived from the art deco influences found along the town’s Mainstreet. The architecture of the town and not the branded architecture of Dodge informed the design process. The site is organized with the showroom and adjacent outdoor display areas located adjacent to the public street. The main dealership building includes a two–story showroom space along with office space and a parts department located immediately behind. A covered service write-up area is located between the main dealership building and the service, wash and detailing bays. The service areas and adjacent vehicle storage areas are secured behind the buildings.

Description:

The existing showroom and sales spaces consisted of mirrored ceilings, mirrored walls, polished stone floors and polished brass chandeliers. The remodel entailed stripping away these materials, replacing them with a material palette and lighting more in line with the corporate branding of Mercedes Benz. The goal was to create an efficient, yet warm and comfortable, environment for staff and the customer that focused on service and selling the product.

Description:

The initial project scope was to prepare a range of land use plans identifying to the Client and the City the most appropriate mix of uses for a key freeway oriented parcel of land located at the easterly entry to the City of Ventura. Automobile dealerships and related facilities were ultimately agreed upon as preferred uses.

The City then requested a Specific Plan for the property be prepared to fully describe the uses permitted, the development standards required for infrastructure and project design, and long term circulation and traffic improvements needed to support the project. The resulting plan was the first Specific Plan adopted in the City of Ventura. Since its adoption, numerous updates have be prepared, processed and adopted.

The Ventura Auto Center has historically been the largest generator of tax revenue for the City of Ventura.
