While working a college football game you have an athlete that goes into head to head contact with a player on the opposing team. When you reach the athlete they are conscious, but not fully aware of their surroundings. They are complaining of head and neck pain and have a tingling sensation in both arms. What steps would you take to safely remove the athlete from the field?
Activate your schools EAP and summon EMS. Hold c-spine on the athlete and have someone you are working with grab the backboard and remove the athlete’s facemask. Question the athlete to see what they remember about the incident and try to keep them calm and tell them to remain still. Have the AT that brought the backboard place a cervical collar on the athlete while you maintain in-line stabilization. Once the cervical collar is in place have the secondary AT and AT students perform a log roll with one person sliding the backboard behind that athlete. Roll the athlete and board back onto the ground. Perform the slide maneuver if necessary. Continue to maintain inline stabilization while the athlete is attached to the backboard. Have the secondary AT place the pads on either side of the helmet and secure with tape. Assist with transport to EMS.

Hypovolemic shock. Activate EMS, elevate feet and legs 8-12 inches. Instruct athlete to not look at the injury. Give nothing by mouth.
An athlete comes to you for an electrical stimulation treatment. How should the electrodes be placed on the athlete?
-On or around the painful area -Over specific dermatomes, myotomes, or sclerotomes that correspond to the painful area-Close to spinal cord segment that innervates an area that is painful -Over sites where peripheral nerves that innervate the painful area becomes superficial and can be easily stimulated-Over superficial vascular structures-Over trigger point locations
When setting up an electrical stimulation treatment for muscle pump contractions, what is the correct pps the machine should be set at?

B. 35-50 pps
What identifies a time when even higher than normal stimulus cannot further depolarize a nerve?

B. An absolute refractory period
One of your track athletes suffered a patella subluxation and has been in an immobilizer for the past several weeks. She has just been cleared to discontinue the use of her immobilizer. You have her start doing straight leg raises but notice her quadriceps muscles don’t seem to be firing. You do MMT and she can’t contract her quadriceps. You decide to do e-stim and utilizing muscle re-education. What parameters should the unit be set to?
Waveform: High volt or medium frequencyPulse frequency: 35 to 55pps Duty Cycle: time on 1-2 seconds, time off 4-10 secondsDuration: 15 minutes
An athlete has received a MRI and there is a plica within the knee. The athlete has decided against surgery and wants to try and take a more conservative means of treatment. The team physician has prescribed iontophoresis and ultrasound. What type of current will be used with the iontophoresis

E. Radiant heat
An athlete comes into the athletic training room with a recently sprained ankle. What are the steps to applying an ice bag? Include pre-application and post-application steps.
Prepare the treatment area. Ask the athlete if they have ever gotten this treatment before and ask if they have any of the counter-indications. Explain the sensation process they will feel as the ice numbs the area. Check for range of motion, circulation and sensation before placing the ice-pack. Place the ice back on the affected area and secure with an ace-wrap or exoclear. Place a towel under the athlete to absorb any dripping water. Tell the athlete to inform you when the area is numb. Check on the athlete throughout treatment. Once the area is numb remove the ice-bag. Check the area for any adverse reactions to the cold. Check for ROM, circulation, and sensation. Clean the treatment area and record the treatment.
