This article, being about Holy Siddhas, iam incompetent to talk about anything from those heights but my sincere attempt here is to share whatever is inmy capacity. f any errors or short!comings, they are entirely mine.

We now set out from Chennai to Pondicherry, first to Aurobindo Ashram. Our friend, Sivadas

bhai, insisted that he would drop us halfway and we were happy with the company. He drove us

from Chennai till Mahabalipuram, about ! "ms and from there we three of us bid him #oodbye

and boarded a bus to Pondicherry. $n about %&%'( hours we reached Pondicherry, now "nown as

Puducherry. Contactin# Aurobindo ashram, we were as"ed to come early the ne)t day as it

Mother*s +a saint disciple of Sri Aurobindo Mahasamadhi day on -ovember %. $t was also

"nown that there were only two days in a year on which Mother*s home is opened for visitors and

the Mahasamadhi day was one. We then wal"ed up an over brid#e for pedestrians to reach theother side of the busy road and boo"ed a lod#e, still very close to the bus stand.

We had the list of /eeva Samadhis and we happy to find many samadhi locations in Puducherry.

0he hotel mana#er #ave us #uidance to few. 1illianur was one spot that often struc" a#ain anda#ain while i was searchin# for /eeva Samadhis in 0-. 0his one was specifically mar"ed on our

list and on en2uiry was simply ama3ed to "now that 1illianur was only 4 "m from where we were

ri#ht now5 0hin#s were clear now that we had to #o to Aurobindo ashram ne)t day and then to

    1illianur 6

So, the ne)t day we wo"e up early and too" an auto to Aurobindo ashram +7s.4!, which is

around "m from the bus stand. 7eachin# there, we noticed there were lot of people. 8eavin#

our footwear outside, we entered into the place and were #uided towards the samadhi of both

Sri. Aurobindo and Mother at one place. 0he entire area was very, very peaceful. Silence was

re2uested and there was silence maintained all around.

0he ashram was founded in -ovember %9(. Sri Aurobindo was a freedom fi#hter, poet, a

mystic, #reat scholar, and a yo#i. He said, :Man is a transitional bein#. He is not final. 0he step

from man to superman is the ne)t approachin# achievement in the earth evolution. $t is

inevitable because it is at once the intention of the inner spirit and the lo#ic of -ature*s

    process.:

Mother +Mirra Alfassa was from Paris, who once met Sri Aurobindo and reco#ni3ed him as the

one who was #uidin# her on her spiritual path. She left her home and came and lived with himand a divine soul that she was, she continued with her spiritual life also loo"in# after the ashram

after the Samadhi of Sri Aurobindo 4 ;ecember %94!, until her Samadhi on % -ovember, %9

0hen, we went into the closest room that turned out to be the boo"store of numerous writin#s of

both the #reat saints. >rom here we came out and were #uided to an open place where there

were hundreds of people standin# silently in 2ueue, to visit Mother*s room. After sometime we

wal"ed throu#h the wooden corridors, up a wooden staircase and into the personal room of

Mother. $t is a divine atmosphere. Silently we wal"ed throu#h her different rooms that containedher personal belon#in#s includin# lot of crystals. 0hen, we were #uided out throu#h another

passa#e. We must have spent about %4 minutes in this house but it is li"e wal"in# throu#h a

    different space itself.

0hen we came out and spent some more time

at the Samadhis. >rom there we came out into the streets and this loo"ed li"e a colony in itself.

We wanted to have more information about Auroville and a man as"ed us to #o the end of the

street near the 1inaya" 0emple where we would #et ta)is on a share basis since it was around %?

"ms from here. When we reached the temple, we saw that it was very ancient. Somewhere

lin#ered in the mind that there could be /eeva Samadhi here for by now it was evident that

ancient temples were built ne)t to /eeva Samadhis. We went into this hu#e busy temple and

    meditated.

8ater, when i came bac" home and was #oin# throu#h the list of Samadhis did i find out this

temple location was the /eeva Samadhi of Sri Tollakadhu Swamigal. What catches the eye

while comin# to this temple is this sweet elephant standin# here for years and blessin# everyonewho #ive him prasad or coins, wisely puttin# prasad into it*s mouth and passin# the coins to the

mahout +covered in video. 0hen the ne)t place we spent more than an hour was on the ne)t

street where there was a wonderful boo"stall where all ama3in# spiritual boo"s are available

from children*s spiritual story boo"s to vedas to all about Siddhas. Since, it was noon time, the

share ta)i had closed down till ? p.m. and calculatin# the time and distance, and the closin#

down of the shop @ust as we reached there, we too" it as an indication #o return bac". As we

were about to hunt for a bus bac" to the bus stand, we saw a share auto comin# that was

headin# that way and we hopped in. He dropped us at the Puducherry bus stand, where our

    room was.

We 2uic"ly went to our room and dropped whatever we had bou#ht from there and came out on

the street to ta"e a bus to 1illianur. 0here were buses every ( minutes to that direction. We tried

#ettin# into one bus from the rear door and the conductor refused to ta"e us in. $t too" me a few

seconds to reali3e that here in 0-, females are allowed entry from the rear bus door and #entsfrom the front bus door. We #ot into this @am&pac"ed bus. All that we "new were that we were

headin# towards 1illianur, nothin# else. 0here was a disharmonious chorus in the bus as the

crowd tal"ed loudly, while the conductor e2ually raised his pitch at passen#ers who were lousy to

move even an inch from where they stood. 0he school lads, drooped and were sleepin# a#ainsteach other as the bus slowly chu##ed throu#h the narrow roads with loud tamil music playin# to

add to the #lory. -ot "nowin# where to #et down, i as"ed a #entleman if there was any samadhi

in this area. -one "new, but an elderly person who overheard us said there was only an ancient

temple that he "new but not about the samadhi. -ot havin# any option, we as"ed him to tellwhen it comes. He was "ind enou#h to tap us on the shoulder when the bus reached the said

location. We #ot down the bus and saw the ancient temple and wal"ed towards it. We met a

person sittin# there and as"ed him who said the temple would open in the evenin#. 0hen he

shared somethin# wonderful. He #ave us insi#hts into /eeva Samadhis in that location, out of

which ? were a little far but two he said were at wal"able distance.

We wal"ed for about a "ilometer and reached a samadhi on the road side of Siddha 7am Pardesi

Swami#al. We thou#ht of movin# to the other samadhi and comin# bac". As"in# for location, we

were #uided to another samadhi another "ilometer from here. Out of the people we as"ed 94

people didn*t "now what we were as"in# or if they "new, they did not "now it was a /eeva

Samadhi. >inally, we found a very small temple&li"e structure. On approachin# it, we were happyto "now that this was the Jeeva Samadhi of Siddha Tengai Swamigal. We spent some time

there. A #entleman met us there who #ave us many insi#hts of this siddha. He mentioned that

*0en#ai* meant *coconut* in 0amil and that the Siddha would see the future of others in coconutsthat they brou#ht alon# with them. He also said there was a powerful Jeeva Samadhi of Sha-

In-Sha Babain a dar#ah in that place. We had to move bac" since it was #ettin# late.

    "am #ardesi Swamigal

    >rom there we wal"ed bac" to ancient temple location. 0his time we saw only temples

everywhere, hu#e ones, and all ancient. 0his place seemed to be a paradise once upon a time

with so many /eeva Samadhis and so many divine old temples. i recently learnt that there are ?9

/eeva Samadhis in Pondicherry area alone and i am sure there must be many more un"nown to

public. We visited two of the hu#e temples +covered in video and wal"ed bac" to the Jeeva

Samadhi of Ram Pardesi Swamigalthat was closed earlier. 0his was also a beautiful place of

vibes. We sat down and meditated here for a lon# time. 0he person who loo"ed after this placetold us about the #reatness of this Siddha. 0he #reat Siddha was "nown to be an incarnation of

8ord Shiva himself. 0his he demonstrated with the halahal vishepisode of Shiva & when he was

hun#ry he would put his ton#ue out and deadly cobras out of nowhere would leave their deadly

venom on his ton#ue which he consumed as his meal.

    "esult photo on this Samadhi

0he "ids around were said to en@oy this scene so much that they started callin# him visham

thinni swamimeanin# *poison&eatin# swami*. He never spo"e much, but whenever he spo"e, it

was only :7am:. Hence, people refer to him as 7am. 0his #reat Siddha was in his physical form

for a while and helped people #et rid of "arma and too" samadhi. One day, while the wor"ers

were di##in# for road, they accidentally du# his tomb and out wal"ed the #reat master5 He then

lived amon# people for sometime and then a#ain reentered his tomb whereupon this shrine isbuilt. 0his shrine could have been rebuilt many times all over the years. Above is the photo with

a #lare that was clic"ed on the samadhi from outside.

$t was dar" by now. 0here were two /eeva Samadhis at a place close to our hotel and we wantedto visit these samadhis, but since it was beyond B6

tomorrow early mornin# before proceedin# to 1adalur. A bus came and we hopped in. Peppy loud

0amil music was playin# and we reached our bac" to Puducherry tappin# our feet to the peppy

rhythm of South $ndian music. $n few minutes we were bac" at our hotel. We freshened up and

came down for food. After food, it was about %! p.m., we were still thin"in# about the Samadhi

that was close by. We then decided that we could have our after&dinner stroll towards that

direction and atleast chec" out if they would open early mornin#. We wal"ed and wal"ed and

wal"ed and by now it was certain that it was not :wal"able: distance. -ow, we had come so far

that we it was not worthwhile turnin# bac". We decided to ta"e an auto bac"

after in2uirin# about the samadhi timin#s thou#h the streets were now loo"in# empty.

Jeeva Samadhi covered in the video

0his was the samadhi of Sa"tivel Paramananda Swami#al and his two disciples. $t was about

    %!6

maintained and was as hu#e as a temple and had a compound and #ate, and the #ate was a little

open thou#h all the li#hts were put off. 0he priest havin# his food on a concrete elevation outsideand an old man pic"in# up thin#s and comin# to close the #ate. i as"ed in 0amil if this was the

particular samadhi. 0he priest en2uired what did we want. When we told him he was "ind

enou#h to open the #ates and allow us to meditate at that hour5 8oo"in# around, there were

idols of all #reat Siddhas embedded on the walls. After we #ot up, the priest too" us behind the

samadhi and showed the two /eeva Samadhis of the disciples of Sa"ti1el Paramananda

Swami#al. 0here are many, many places in 0- where the uru and disciples have

    to#ether ta"en /eeva Samadhi, sometimes alon# with as many as < disciples5 0han"in# the

priest, we came out at it was close to midni#ht and wondered where we would #et an auto sinceit was a lon# way bac" to the hotel. /ust then a totally empty bus came and halted ri#ht in front

of us. Assumin# it was #oin# to the bus stand where out hotel was, we hopped in and werehappy to "now it was #oin# there. 0here were none in the bus other than us three5 We came

bac" to the room and fell fast asleep. -e)t mornin#, we wo"e up early and a#ain came bac" to

the same samadhi we were in last ni#ht, this time ta"in# an auto. 0here was somethin# ma#ical

here. 0he priest did arati, #ave us the theertham and also the photo#raphs of the #reat Siddhas.

We then went bac" to the hotel room and chec"ed out of the hotel and wal"ed strai#ht to the

bus stand. We were now headin# towards 1adalur, the place of Ramalinga Swami, the Siddha

who disappeared transformin# his physical body into li#ht. 0here were no direct buses to this

place and we were as"ed to #o to Cuddalore first. We 2uic"ly #ot a bus to that place and only

within a #ap of havin# some hot tea, we #ot another connectin# bus to 1adalur. $n the bus, we

could ma"e out that the place we are headin# to was a villa#e as it passed throu#h narrow

    lanes.

    Sathya $nana Sabai

i was also recollectin# the different type of locations that #reat saints and Siddhas chose to

manifest in physical form for their divine missions, "nown only to them. On reachin# 1adalur, we

#ot down and were helped by a friend & -elson, who thou#h not bein# in town had arran#ed us

with a room at Mahatma andhi 7ural Community Colle#e, an -O he ran. 0he Shrine is @ust

    opposite to this place.

    The eternal fire

We freshened up, had some snac"s we had carried with us and the lady there was "ind to #ive us

umbrellas since it was dri33lin#. Only a few minutes wal" and we were there at the Sathya nana

Sabai +Hall of 0rue Wisdom which was built by 7amalin#a Swami in %B!, where he had lit a fire

declarin# that fire would remain lit forever and the hun#ry would be fed forever here. $t sohappens that this temple has no idol or anythin# e)cept a lamp. We sat down here and

meditated. 0hen, we wal"ed a few meters further from this place, where we saw a small place

where idols where "ept in several #lass bo)es depictin# the entire life story of 7amalin#a Swami.

He opposed rituals and superstition and discoura#ed the caste system. He stron#ly forbade

"illin# of animals for food. 0he hi#hest form of worship accordin# to Him was feedin# the poor.

per His words the poor and hun#ry are fed even to this day on meals coo"ed on the same fire. After spendin# some time in these places, we left bac" to the room. -ow, the place where

7amalin#a Swami transmuted to li#ht was a bit far away from here. We hired a ta)i and thedriver was a #entleman who "new these places well and told us that he would also ta"e us to the

places where 7amalin#a Swami#al was born and the place where he did many miracles. He also

added that he would drop us to our ne)t destination & Chidambaram, all for a bar#ained amount

of 7s. 4!'& 0hou#h it seemed little hi#h, we never minded it as we would be still visitin# places

    of Swami#al that was unplanned.

He too" us strai#ht to the place in Mettu"oppu to the place where Swami 7amalin#a went into

the room and transmuted himself into li#ht. 0he place has a bi# compound with very few people

in white clothin# who loo"ed to be the followers of 7amalin#a Swami. >ew sat in meditative

silence, while few were readin# out the son#s of Swami#al. All around in the places of Swami#alone can see nothin# but a burnin# lamp that indicated the presence of Swami#al. We spent sometime in here in this beautiful place +covered in

the passa#e of time the level of the construction has risen up than the level durin# those yearsand that is why the spot is under#round, opened only durin# ma@or occasions. Eut, since the

0hrou#h some Siddha literature, it was learnt that this place was "nown to be the meetin# place

of Siddhas and they constructed this temple. 0his temple had many hidden mysteries, which is

said cannot be decoded so easily. One amon# the mysteries is about the idol of the ;ancin#

-atara@a that is worshiped in this form and also the form of the 8in#a and also is the empty

space here, which is worshiped as od in the form of empty space +Chid A"ash or spiritual s"y

and that is the reason this temple is "nown to be the A"ash tatva. $n a ma#a3ine of 7.

Duppusamy, who is a #reat scholar of the Siddha tradition, he writes about it all.

0he worship of the empty space is called :0he secret of Chidambaram: because behind the veil of

empty space, there is yet another form of od, the true, scientific form6 8i#ht of $nfinite race.0hat vision alone can ma"e one immortal and transform one*s body into *wisdom&li#ht*. 0hissecret was not revealed but "ept as a test for the initiates for about (!!! years. Swami

7amalin#a was sent into this world to revela this secret to the masses, one and all, so that

everyone could become immortal. Actually, when Swami 7amalin#a, as a 4&month&old baby was

brou#ht to this temple, the baby #ivin# out peels and peels of lau#hter on seein# its real mother

+od and tried to @ump forward and hu# the 8ord. One Mr. Appaya ;i"shithar who saw this

true form +li#ht was revealed to 7amalin#a Swami at this tender a#e. $t was only now we

understood Swami 7amalin#a was closely connected to Chidambaram as He even lived here for a

    lon# time before #oin# to 1adalur.

Also, most importantly, we had come to Chidambaram temple with a lin" one of the #reat

Siddhas of the %B foremost Siddhas & Siddha Thirumoolar. He is said to have become li#ht in

this Chidambaram temple, thou#h it is also said that His /eeva Samadhi wasin 0hiruvavaduthurai +about ?! "ms from here. Siddha 0hirumoolar lived for more than

Siddha 0hirumoolar came from Mount Dailash and was "nown as Sundarar. Once he decided to

meet a fellow yo#i and friend down South, who was Siddha A#asthiya. When he reached a villa#e

called Saathanoore, he saw a herd of cows surrounded the dead body of their cowherd named

Mulan. 0his si#ht touched him and to help these poor creatures, he used his yo#ic powers andputtin# himself in a hollow lo# for his body to be safe from animals and dan#er, he left his body

and entered the body of Mulan. When Mulan came to life, the cows were over@oyed and Mulan led

the cows bac" to their sheds in the villa#e. After he saw that all cows were safe bac" home, he

returned to the place where he had hidden his body. Eut, he was shoc"ed to find his body haddisappeared. $t is said that it was 8ord Shiva*s leela for him to remain down South. 0hus, Mulan

became "nown as 0hirumoolar +meanin# *holy shepherd* and lived there. He remained in

    Samadhi for

lines, that contained all the mysteries and teachin#s that the #reat Siddha had contemplated onfor the whole year. 0hus, there were

0he ne)t mornin#, tryin# to "now about /eeva Samadhis in this location, when we approached a

man on the road, he immediately called his friend on his cellphone, who was nearby and he

came to us. He revealed to us four /eeva Samadhis near that place. We noted it down on a piece

of paper and than"ed him for his timely help.

We then proceeded by wal" to find the first one on the list and it was 2uite some distance before

we could actually find it out. 0he search led to a fish mar"et area and place of meat behind which

were narrow lanes. We were #oin# to the Jeeva Samadhi of Sri-La-Sri Avadhoot

Swamigal but we were as"ed to as" for Derala Swami was he is widely "nown here. On doin#

so, the people of that area #uided us to one small lane. 7eachin# there, the #ates were closed. Aman in a hut opposite to the Samadhi temple, told us it is closed and "eys are with a priest who

does not live there. We stood there ponderin#. 0he man loo"ed at us and #ave us a number to

itself and that he would send the "eys. He sent the "eys throu#h a lady who opened it for us and

we could spend some time there. $n about half hour the priest himself came and told us few

thin#s about the Siddha. +covered in video.

We spent some time in here. 0hen, the lady told us the name of the person and house in whose

house the "eys of the Samadhi was, but that person was not home but we were told that it was a

small Samadhi. On approachin# the Samadhi, it indeed was a small one and the #ates were @ust

to the small enclosure of the Samadhi. $t was the /eeva Samadhi of Siddha TheringanaSambandhar. We had enou#h #round space to meditate as this small Samadhi was in an open

space. $t was close to ? p.m. by the time we finished and we had not had our lunch yet.

We #ot an auto to the bus stand and en2uired for late ni#ht bus bac" to Chennai the same ni#ht

    and we #ot our tic"ets boo"ed for a %( a.m. midni#ht bus. 0hen we wal"ed bac" to our hotel
