Not all applications will be included in the Rainbow Covenant
boo4let( ub$ission ofapplication does not &uarantee approval(
The Eoard of Dlobal Ministries approves apreli$inary list of
'dvances which are then sub$itted to the 'nnual Conference for
approval(To be approved by the Eoard of Dlobal Ministries as a
Conference or -istrict 'dvance pecial%a $inistry,pro+ect,a&ency
$ust $eet the followin& criteriaF
1. 3ave a mission statement re(lective o( the mission statement
o( the orthernllinois Con(erence. 'ee &mcnic.or!.
2. 4e a((iliated with the $nited %ethodist Ch&rch by mandate
o( the or!ani"ation.
For e5ample
a. ncl&sion o( board members who are $nited %ethodists.
b. 7artner with ch&rches within the $nited %ethodist
connection.
c. 4e ho&sed within a $nited %ethodist ch&rch.
d. o ministry re(lective o( he 'ocial 7rinciples or %ission
8oals o( he $%C.
e. Receive (inancial s&pport (rom local $nited %ethodist
ch&rches.
+. 7rovide ministry within the bo&ndaries o( the orthern
llinois Con(erence.
9. 7rovide a ministry that en!a!es m<iple $nited %ethodist
ch&rches and theirpeople beyond the local area.
/. 4e a le!al, non-pro(it or!ani"ation or &nder the

pecial Notes:
If a church has its own individual $inistry that is pri$arily a
$ission of +ust that local church%li4e a food pantry or
after#school pro&ra$% it $ay not need an 'dvance nu$ber( 'nyone
cancontribute to that $inistry by &ivin& to that local
church( .nly when a $inistry is a lar&er effort
of $any con&re&ations or an independent non#profit would
it need an 'dvance(
Ey receivin& an 'dvance nu$ber% a $inistry is essentially
establishin& a tool for UMCcon&re&ations to &ive
funds( 4ein! an Advance does not !&arantee receipt o( any
(&nds (
'dvances receivin& funds below a threshold a$ount will be
as4ed to see4 support throu&h$eans other than the 'dvance(
Ministry $ust $aintain relationships with the Eoard of
DlobalMinistries each year by sub$ittin& newsletters% stories%
direct e#$ails% or other en&a&e$ent(
Ministries $ay use only one 'dvance nu$ber to support their
pro+ects(
