Captured between the covers of this album is asample of an extraordinary musical
effort. All songs you number among your
favorites, now performed as you have
never heard them before. No doubt, the
newest songs that will be remembered in __ { the future are the big hits of Pet Clark...
. 4-chere are some of her great songs, offered
in exciting instrumental versions by
Bob Florence; instrumental versions that make them wonderful to listen to all over
again.
Due to an uncanny knack for coming up
with hit after hit, many accolades have
descended on the tiny blond head of
Pet Clark. One of the highest honors is the
fact that the songs she has made world
famous have been sung, played and
recorded by a host of other artists. But, it has remained for Bob Florence to put

together an album of all her hits...and
what an album it is! The excitement and drive of today’s music is expanded by the
superb treatment of fine instrumental
arranging, interpreted by some of the
finest sidemen in the country. A word
abéut Bob Florence is in order. The _ brilliant piano solos featured throughout are, of course, by Bob himself. His arrangements treat ‘‘Pet Project” with taste
and complement. His choice of the men
to perform this “project” is intuitive!
“Pet Project” seems to us a tribute to, in
respect for, and love of the talented little
singer who launched all these hits. Big,
bright and beautifully swinging, now is the
time to listen and be happy with ‘Pet
Project’!!! Joe Bogar & Frank Costa WMCA N.Y. Music Department

doing an album of songs associated with
Petula Clark, | became very intrigued with
the idea. First of all, Miss Clark is one of
my favorite performers. She has a great
ear, a good sense of timing and a wide
range of emotion. Secondly, the songs
recorded here are very challenging
because of their unusual form, their
contemporary rhythmic excitement and
their sometimes startling harmonies.
Because of their popularity, | didn’t feel it
necessary to do all of these songs in their
original style. ‘Il Know a Place” became
a march, ‘‘Call Me’’, a ballad and “‘You’re
the One” and “Who Am |?’’, both sambas.
On my one original, “Pet’’, | tried to convey my own feeling about Miss Clark.
_ A word should be said about the soloists:in
this recording. The trumpet.solos through-
out are by Jimmy Zito. The trombone solo

on ‘Goin’ Out of My Head”’ is by Bill Byers.
Bob Hardaway is featured on “My Love’”’
and “Call Me’. Bud Shank plays alto on
‘Just Say Goodbye”’ and “Who Am 1?” and
flute on “You’re the One’. Would you believe Bill Perkins on ‘‘The Life and Soul
of the Party’? Perk also plays on “Round
Every Corner’’. The piano solos are mine.
Also a special word should be said about
the fine rhythm section work of Jack
Sperling, Ray Brown, Dennis Budimir and
Herb Ellis. They were given the challenge
of having to play in many different styles and still swing. Bob Florence
