RADIO FREQUENCY EMISSION ASSESSMENT AROUND TELECOMMUNICATION STRUCTURE
IN PENANG
INTRODUCTION
OBJECTIVES
RF ASSESSMENT
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION
CONTENT
Introduction
• Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has requested Malaysian Nuclear Agency to conduct a radiofrequency (RF) emission measurement around the mobile telephone base station (MTBS) and wireless broadband telecommunication structure around Penang.
• Assessment has been conducted the assessment work from 4th February
2015 to 12th February 2015.
• Ten sites were selected which represent different kind of structure: monopole, rooftop , structure on the ground and different operation of frequency band.
• covers mainland and island of Penang State.
Objective of project
• To determine the EMF source at selected telecommunications structures and locations
• To assess and analyze the RF emission level and compare to the EMF standard compliance by Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and International Commission on Non-ionising Radiation Protection (ICNIRP).
• To simulate the RF emission pattern to ensure EMF compliance

RESULTS – COMPLY WITH PERMISSIBLE EXPOSURE LIMIT
CONCLUSION• The level of radiofrequency emission present at the selected area
concern are very low
• The emission are extremely well below the exposure limits stipulated by the MCMC and ICNIRP guidelines for members of the public. (< 1.0 % of the permissible exposure limit)
• Based on the findings of these measurements, we strongly believe that the presence of the RF emitted by the antennas installed on the telecommunication structure with the present loads and the background radiation would not lead to any significant radiation exposure received by members of the public living or working in the area of concern.
