Another black and white image links the artist to the past. It also creates a negative mood, which links to the message of the magazine being an anniversary of his death.

Having an image cover the whole page stands out, drawing the reader in to read the opposite page

Smoking again… This could have a pattern to do with the time that Lennon was around showing that a lot of people smoked, a lot of the time.

The use of the colour red with the first letter makes the article stand out, it also connotes well with the theme of the magazine.

Very large font used, with capital letters, enhancing the importance of the artists impact on music.

The font being black bodes well with the style of the magazine, black also being simple and bold.

An image in the middle of the article brakes up the writing giving readers a break from reading.

More writing in red, being associated with blood and horror, can also be linked with love and passion

This double age spread has two columns of text. It has some quotes highlighted to make them stand out to the reader, the article begins by introducing the reader to Billie Joe Armstrong, and what kind of character he is.

It uses a pull quote which tells us about the group and their music. “Punk has always been about doing things your way”. This gives the impression that Billie does everything his way not caring what he does.

It carries on the house style of a scrap book with ripped pages, sticky tape, pencil lines and scribbles.

‘The boss’ making Billie Joe Armstrong seem very important.

The magazines headline is the name of the artist as the article is all about him. The font has a wonky aspect to it implying that maybe Green Day’s Billie Armstrong is quite quirky and odd, which then adds to the style of the band being punk/rock.

The photo was taken in a studio, which shows the artist in a bold pose enhancing the style of music through his clothing and stance. From wearing colours such as black, it gives an edge of darkness. Also by wearing skinny jeans, A studded belt, black hair and black eyes, giving the reader the impression of rock.

All of the text colour is white apart from a few words that are red, the red signifies danger, which is shown with the words ‘DANGER’ and ‘VERY AFRAID’.

The content analysis of the magazine are a band called ‘Rammstein’ as they are the main subject in the centre of the page.

A medium long shot is used on the band, they represent the genre of rock. They are at the top of the page, overlapping the title and looking directly at the readers and their target audience which represents their success and that they are in control.

The preferred meaning that has been constructed in this image is that they are confident and in control.

The title looks faded, with capital letters and an exclamation mark, this suggests that it’s loud and exciting, also suggesting a younger target audience.

The bands name stands out with it slanted across the middle of the front page making it seem in your face and out there, this could reflect the bands music, stepping away from the norm.

The barcode and price are written and located clearly and easily making it simple for the audience.

On this cover there is no wasted space, the cover is full up, which could imply that the customer is getting what they have paid for.

Having information telling us what’s inside the magazine makes the reader want to buy it.

It has five columns of text, spread around the photos. The main photo has all three numbers, standing with their instruments, this portrays the music style that they have; guitar, bass guitar and drums are linked to rock music.

The colours are stereotypically boy colours of blue, black and grey, however red has also been used giving it a different vibe.

The headline on this double page spread is small making it look insignificant, but a reader would know what the article is about from the photo on the opposite page.

The groups facial expressions are serious with one member looking out to the reader, this shows that he is the lead artist. It also uses past photos, of photo shoots, live performances and them practising and recording.

The title of ‘Muse’ is very small- this is surprising as they are a very popular band, however the beginning of the article uses a large ‘M’ this gives the article a better effect.

Black and white images used to give the magazine links to the past. It also creates a negative mood.

The red boxes are used to describe who and what is in the pictures which stands out helping the reader.

Having the guitars in the middle picture placed up side down could insinuate a difference or a strangeness in their music.

The general layout of the contents page is fairly informal yes cleverly organised. It has been categorised into main sections; Features and regulars. The images on the double page also fall into these sections and the images are mainly scaled down versions of the actual pages in the magazine.

Most of the double page consists of images with their page numbers next to them. This is a conventional design used by all types of magazines and even newspapers

Including the masthead, on the contents page a review is added in the bottom right hand side. This is usually placed on a different page.

The title of the page issue number were placed all across the top of the page. This is very conventional in most magazines because we generally read from left to right and top to bottom. This is very basic however it is simple

and makes the page look neater.

Many of the images slightly overlap each other or are placed in the centre, a feature which was common on the front cover as well . This keeps a general flow of design throughout the

magazine,

The font used on the front cover is very simplistic which makes it look sophisticated yet still striking. Like on the front cover a sans serif font is used, which gives a classic look.

The palette of colours used on the contents are very similar to the front cover. The banner and mastheads are in red which is very commonly used on the titles as it is a bold colour which accentuates the importance of the text, which is often in black or white.

A white background helps make the rest of the page really striking, the white I s a neutral colour which is very often used as a background as it is simple and connotes youthfulness and simplicity. The ‘Q Review’ is written in red instead of black which is the colour used for the rest of the font. This is to highlight the importance of the text and to show it isn't the same as the rest of the text.

The caption on this photo anchors the image as its preferred

meaning.

The images have been laid out like a collage, around one main picture of Bowie.

The images draws the audience in as it shows the events of bowie’s life.

The images are representing his life as an Actor; singer; Father; and a husband.

All of the images have little captions to tell the story of the images used.

The white writing there is anchorage with the style of writing and the contents of the title.

The blue title and blue box are in link as the main title is old and blue; and the box is in blue as it is about David Bowie in a conversation

The main title of ‘David Bowie’ is overlapping on to two pages.

This is the dominate image as it is conotating that this is about the lights that he likes to show off with his performances by using his voice and light displays.

The ‘ground control to’ is another connotation as it is a line of one of his very famous songs called ‘space oddity’

Ground control to is in a formal italic writing. As it is emphasising about David Bowie having ground control as control is powerful over staging world.
