As we turn yet another page to mark the achievement of Rachana reaching a new milestoneof setting a OWN OFFICE PREMISES at a cost of 35 lakhs, it is indeed a great joy and asense of satisfaction not only to me but to all those who are a part of this venture.

In leadership we have two choices either to do different things or to do things differently.I preferred to go with the latter. "Great things are not done by impulse but by a series ofsmall things brought together".

The Annual Rachana Awards Ceremony was a great success with around 1300 witnessingthe programme. The Awards were bestowed based on merit and the selection of awardeeswas well appreciated. The grand, colourful ceremony was presided by Mr. J.R. Lobo, MLAMangaluru South.

Our Entrepreneur Development Cell (EDC) under the able leadership of its Convenor, asuccessful Entrepreneur and a Visionary Mr. Louis J. Pinto, has done sincere and outstandingwork to foster entrepreneurship, to promote and support youth for self employment whichis the main objective of Rachana. I feel proud to express that Rachana has mentored andsupported about 34 youth for entrepreneurship by providing loan facilities with subsidyand/or at a lower rate of interest to the tune of Rs. 39 Lakhs in collaboration and support ofvarious financial institutions, Government departments etc. The convenor of EDC madethis possible through our programme co-ordinator who is being paid a salary of Rs.216000/-per annum and I must make a mention that it is being sponsored by Mr. Louis J. Pinto.Rachana remains grateful to him, for his generosity and noble service.

Having served Rachana as secretary for two consecutive terms I had the exposure andopportunity to learn the deeds and needs of Rachana. I observed that the diocese ofMangalore was kind enough to give us a small office premises at Bishops house for manyyears and I take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to our Bishop Most. Rev.Dr. Aloysius Paul D'Souza for the same.

Rachana being an organisation that represents Catholic Entrepreneurs, Professionals andAgriculturists who are so called as the backbone of the society, I felt it is not proper toburden the Diocese for our office needs since they have their own religious and socialactivities and a number of other associations to back.

We at Rachana always crave for expansion and improvement and I felt that for anydevelopment we need to have proper infrastructure. An English proverb says, "Actionspeaks louder than words". These thoughts turned into a dream. Having eyesight withoutvision is not useful. The dream was converted to Vision by many likeminded. The Governingbody of Rachana unanimously resolved to take this great venture naming it as VISIONPROJECT- 2014 with the slogan "OUR OWN OFFICE OUR OWN PREMISES". The projectwas launched by MLA J.R. Lobo and was well supported by the Rachana members at an allmembers meet.

My respectful regards and sincere thanks to Rachana Governing Body and Members andto all those who have inspired, backed and supported me in one or the other way. I expressmy gratitude for the all time guidance and support given by the Founder members ofRachana, as well as the leaders of our community Mr. J.R. Lobo, MLA and Mr. Roy Castelino,President Karnataka Konkanni Sahithya Acdemy.

A very little has been achieved much remains to be done. At Rachana it is our endeavour tocontribute to the economical development of our community for which we need to educateand introduce youth to entrepreneurship. It is need of the hour to focus and promote ourown educational institutions like Technical/Engineering Colleges, Medical/Dental Collegesand other Professional Colleges. I am reminded of the words of Hannibal "We will eitherfind a way or make one". At the end our vision should be a strong and independent ChristianCommunity. A good thought, an appreciation and a helping hand from everyone woulddemonstrate solidarity of purpose and expedite the accomplishment of the mission.

May GOD Bless each one of us.

Rachana is achieving another milestone today, with the inauguration of itsown office premises. The success of any organization or institution is gaugedby both availability of infrastructure and service rendered to the society. In the recent years, the Rachana leadership has been very enterprising and responsive to many of the communityneeds.

Rachana has not only come a long way from recognizing and honouring the achievers in ourcommunity by awarding Rachana awards, to involving the elite of our community in serviceoriented projects. The conclave of prominent Businessmen under the leadership of our previousPresident, Mr. Ivan D'Souza and now the focussed work of promoting young enterpreneursunder the Enterpreneur Development Cell started during my tenure as president, is beingenthusiastically carried forward by the present President, Mr. John Monterio with activeinvolvement by Mr. Louis Pinto, which has enhanced the image of Rachana to great extent.

The yeoman service rendered by all our past presidents, and one in particular, Mr. MarcelMonterio is worth highlighting. If Rachana is standing on strong footing today, the credit goes toall our past presidents.

The present team has done very well so far and the inauguration of our own office premiseswill boost the confidence of our members to achieve more.

Let us all be proud of our organization, community, home town, state & country. Let us all joinhands in gainfully contributing for the betterment of our community. Unitedly we can attainmuch greater heights. Rachana should work for a strong economic, political & awakenedcommunity.

Before I end I would like to recall the old adage "United we stand divided we fall".

Looking forward for a bright future.

RACHANA ENTREPRENEUR DEVELOPMENT CELLThe Rachana EDC, in a bid to fulfil its objective of developingentrepreneurs among the community, examined the issue from allperspectives and seven months ago, drew up a road map to achieve itsstated goals. Rachana EDC, has over the last seven months focussed on all of these areas and has madeconsiderable progress. Despite efforts to set up systematic training sessions for existingand aspiring entrepreneurs, a lack of faculty and trainees has prompted a reassessment ofthis initiative. One or two individuals approached the centre for training in specific areas, and were directed to the respective department.

It is a well known fact that the economic and industrial development in the country is aproduct of government policy and support. In this context, during the first twenty days, prior to reaching out to help aspiring and existing entrepreneurs, Rachana approachedvarious govt. departments and other NGOs, to collect information that will support selfemployment.
