ORBIT 8 with variable speed drive (VSD)
While the scroll compressors of the ORBIT 8 series for R410A are characterized by high full load and seasonal efficiency, low sound levels, and high reliability, they are also now suitable for use with variable speed drives. VSD capable scroll compressors from BITZER give system designers even more solutions to the challenge of maintaining full load and rating point efficiency levels, while also increasing efficiency at part load points where equipment operates during most of the year. Typical options include downsizing the nominal compressor displacement to a part-load capacity and using the over-speed to achieve full capacity. Using the reduced speed to further reduce noise emissions. Or, taking advantage of reduced condensing pressures associated with part-load operation to operate with reduced power consumption. Coupled with BITZERs unique medium temperature optimization technology, system designers have never had so many options to satisfy their customers needs.
Wide speed range
The ORBIT 8 with VSD capability provides smooth and efficient operation from 35 to 75 Hz*. While many designers use tandem and trio compounds to achieve simple and efficient capacity staging in chiller applications, the VSD capability of the ORBIT 8 provides new options for designers of refrigerant-to-air systems who dont have the buffering effects of a fluid loop. The fast response of the ORBIT 8 with VSD ensures optimum temperature control.

High cooling capacity
The large capacity range of the ORBIT 8 series is enhanced with the ability to either slow down, or speed up depending on demand. This in creased range can allow users the option to reduce the number, size and variety of compressors stocked in their facility thereby reducing their working capital requirements.
Heat pump application
The ORBIT 8 with VSD capability is an ideal solution for designers looking for high system performance. While a standard scroll compressor must cycle on/off to achieve a building heat load at high evaporating temperatures, a scroll with VSD can easily follow the characteristics. In addition, BITZER provides a large application envelope precisely in the area most needed by heat pumps. Off-setting low refrigerant mass flow rates associated with these conditions is now possible with BITZERs ORBIT 8 with VSD capability.
IPLV advantage
While ORBIT 8 is known for its optimi zation technology that increases IPLV from 5 to 15%, these benefits are further enhances with the application of VSD technology. Designers can take advantage of the lower condensing pressures associated with part-load operation and further reduce their power consumption.This is in particular of advantage with refrigerant-to-air systems but also for chillers with two compressors (one with VSD) for stepless modulation of the required cooling demand.
