Spread the Word to End the Word week March 1-5, 2010. Our Meet in the Middle group used this week to spread the word about the harmful effects of using the R word. Monday -During morning announcements, it was announced there would be short clips during advisory period and it was recommended to teachers to hold discussions after viewing them. Tuesday - Showed Soeren Palumbo speech at a Special Olympics summit. Students were invited to come and pledge to erase the R word from their vocabulary on Thursday during lunches. Wednesday - TAKS day, bummer, no activities. Thursday - Showed additional clips from the Alaska National Games where athletes shared their feelings about being made fun of. Set up a pledge booth in the cafeteria for kids to come and pledge. Friday - Our teacher, Mr. Bird. was interviewed on the announcements to talk about what happened with the campaign and what more the students can do.

Spread the Word to End the Word week March 1-5, 2010. Our Meet in the Middle group used this week to spread the word about the harmful effects of using the R word.

Monday-During morning announcements, it was announced there would be short clips during advisory period and it was recommended to teachers to hold discussions after viewing them.

We had lots of students, teachers, and administrators come and pledge!

We took the names of those that pledged and drew them for prizes from Special Olympics and the Down Syndrome Association of Central Texas. We gave away t-shirts, buttons, pens, folders, calendars, and lots of brochures!

We took the little cards we made with the pledge and signature on it and made a giant poster to hang in the cafeteria.
