“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere” – Martin Luther King, Jr.by Dr. Alveda King - Director of Civil Rights for the Unborn

As Director of Civil Rights for the Unborn, the African-American outreach of Priests for Life, in my travels and communications, I see people of different ethnicity and walks of life working together to fight injustice in their communities and around the nation and beyond -- people working and praying to make America and the world a beloved community where all persons, born and unborn, are endowed by their creator with the right to LIFE, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

In the last few months Civil Rights for the Unborn has traveled from Orlando, Fl to Guelph, Ontario, Canada and many places in between.

One of my most memorable trips was to Panama City, FL where I taped a couple of shows for the Catholics in America TV show.I met Fr. Peter Zalewski, Fr. Michael Nixon and Pastor Kenric Conway who were all great people. We taped onthe topics of Religious Freedom anddiscussed why Martin Luther King, Jr. was pro-life.

Father Denis Wilde: On the road in Maryland with pro-life youthFather Denis Wilde

I was blessed this summer to go on the road with Maryland pro-life activist Jack Ames, director of Defend Life. For five days, we set up exhibits of the images of victims in several Maryland locations and at Farragut Square in Washington, D.C. Some people stopped and were interested in the display, which began with a picture of Jesus suffering from the murder of His children and ended with Jesus offering healing. In between, the signs and pictures told the truth about abortion. Sometimes people gave us the thumbs up; sometimes they were angry.

We had a sign that asked people to honk if they are pro-life and that really created a mood and helped raise the issue. It gave people who aren’t always vocal about pro-life a chance to be a part of the movement, to be pulled out of their own comfort zone and say, “I’m for this too.”

Pro-life youth from the area were my traveling companions. These young people are really ready to defend life and they are so positive; there is no

anger in them at all. I think it’s really meaningful that these kids are out there. They were just delightful to be around, and so were the 50 or so volunteers, in total, who served us lunch and dinner at each of our stops.

I celebrated Mass on the Feast Day of St. Maximilian Kolbe at St. Joseph’s Church in Macon, GA, and in Peachtree, GA, I spent 12 hours recording piano music. I felt like I could have gone on and on. This really was a blessed summer.

I have had an outrageous summer on the road for Priests for Life!I was able to get respect life groups started at two parishes, one in California and one in my home state of New Mexico.

At Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church in Santa Clarita, CA, the interim pastor invited me to speak during his last weekend at the parish. Several people there told me they were interested in starting up a respect life group but they didn’t know how to go about it. I suggested they just start a sign-up sheet to present to the new pastor when he arrived. About 50 people signed up! So that group should have no trouble getting going.

Then when I was at St. Helen’s in Portales, NM, where there was no respect life group, so I told them what happened in Santa Clarita and we started a signup sheet there too. More than a dozen signed up!

God is good.

I also was blessed this summer to take part in three pro-life youth camps.

In San Bernardino, CA, Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust were training leaders in pro-life activism. Whatever we were doing – a die-in, sidewalk chalking, protesting at an abortion mill – two kids would be the event leaders and one would be the police liaison. Sometimes the police would see my collar and assume I was in charge, but I would point out the young person who was the liaison that day. Then the Diocese of Dallas, TX invited me to give presentations at their pro-life summer boot camp for youth. This involved a combination of classroom sessions and street activism. We went to Mount Calvary Cemetery, where 1,600 aborted babies are buried, including Malachi. He was a little baby boy found frozen in a jar with three other babies at an abortion mill in Dallas. There were jars upon jars of frozen children in that mill. It’s so hard to comprehend this barbarity. The kids also organized a Divine Mercy flash mob and it was videotaped, so I’m looking forward to seeing the finished product. I have a few parts in it!

“Bryan Kemper Travelogue”

One of the best parts of working as a pastoral team member at Priests for Life is the traveling and outreach I get to do. Priests for Life often send our youth outreach to major events like Christian concerts or festivals to set up our pro-life booth. I was recently at our booth at a Catholic music festival in Ohio when a man approached the table to tell me a story.

He asked if I was Bryan Kemper, and I said yes. He then proceeded to tell my about his daughter who had followed my work for years and would come visit our booth at festivals and other events. He told me how our work had really touched her and how Stand True inspired both of them to be pro-life.

He then explained how personal tragedies and struggles in his life left him a single dad and that his daughter ended up pregnant. He explained that it was because of the work of Stand True and our influence on her that she decided to keep her baby. He thanked us for the life of his grandchild.

I have to tell you that being on the road, at times, can really take a toll on us, but it is moments like this that make it all worth it.

Two Priests for Life Medical Consultants Lead the Way in Reversing Chemical Child-Killing

Chemical abortion, through the drug “RU-486” is actually a two step process, separated by a couple of days. And when a mother gets an abortion, whether chemical or surgical, she experiences great ambivalence. When the child is destroyed in a ten minute procedure, the desire to change one’s mind is often met with the reality that it is too late. But with the extra span of time that the chemical abortion technique takes, mothers often change their mind about the abortion between the time that they take the first drug and the time that they take the second.

And if that happens, it’s not necessarily too late, as two of our Priests for Life medical consultants learned from experience and are now telling other physicians.

The first known reversal took place in 2007, when a young woman showed up in the North Carolina office of Priests for Life Medical Advisor Dr. Matt Harrison, saying she had just taken mifepristone – the first drug in the two-pill abortion regimen – but had changed her mind. Relying on prayer and a deep understanding of the way progesterone works, Dr. Harrison was able to save the baby, who is now a healthy 9-year-old.

Two years after Dr. Harrison’s success, Dr. George Delgado independently came to same conclusion for the reversal process. Dr. Delgado is the medical director of Culture of Life Family Services (COLFS) in San Diego County.

In 2012, Dr. Delgado and Dr. Mary Davenport published a study about the abortion pill reversal protocol in the Annals of Pharmacology.

Dr. Delgado set up AbortionPillReversal.com and established a 24-hour hotline to connect women who have taken mifepristone but changed their minds to doctors all over the country willing to help.

Janet Morana, Executive Director of Priests for Life and Co-Founder of the

Silent No More Awareness Campaign, speaks to a large rally outside the US

Supreme Court in March as oral arguments were being heard in the case of

Whole Woman’s Health vs. Hellerstedt, in which provisions of a Texas law were

considered that would increase health and safety standards in the abortion

industry. Priests for Life submitted a Friend of the Court Brief, which Janet

is holding, and which contains testimonies of women of the Silent No More

Awareness Campaign. Their experience shows why women need more protection from

unscrupulous abortionists. The Supreme Court did not uphold the Texas law,

but the power of these testimonies continues to awaken more and more people

around the country.

At the time of this writing, the network has celebrated the birth of approximately 220 babies, all of whom are healthy and another 100 women are currently pregnant. Hundreds of physicians have signed up to be part of the network of those who are trained in this protocol and can handle referrals.

To help publicize the solid medical foundation of this protocol and to spread the good news of its

life-saving effects, Priests for Life sponsored a press conference in January 2015 at the National Press Club in Washington, at which Dr. Delgado and other AAPLOG members spoke to the national media about APR. The Culture of Life Family Services presented to Fr. Frank Pavone their “Sue Lopez Pro-life Person of the Year Award” in San Diego on October 8, 2016. In this photo, Fr. Frank is with Dr. Delgado and with a mom (Rebecca) whose baby (Elijah) was saved by the Abortion Pill Reversal protocol.

Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director,

and Janet Morana, Executive Director,

were asked to teach a class at the summer

bioethics course of the Pontifical

Athaneum “Regina Apostolorum” this

past July. (A “pontifical” university

is set up or approved by the Holy

See itself, to advance the mission

of the Church.) Fr. Frank and Janet

were asked to speak about a particular

initiative that Priests for Life,

through the Silent No More Awareness

Campaign advances, called “Healing the

Shockwaves of Abortion.” This explores the damage abortion does not only

to the baby, mother, and father, but to siblings, grandparents, the entire

family unit, the friends, the abortionists and everyone else.

Cardinal Elio Sgreccia is one of the most esteemed voices in the Church on questions of bioethics and the sanctity of life. He worked closely with Pope Saint John Paul II in the writing of the encyclical, The Gospel of Life (Evangelium Vitae), and is the author of many other authoritative works on bioethics. Cardinal Sgreccia received Fr. Frank Pavone and Janet Morana, along with Geoffrey Strickland of the Priests for Life Rome office, for a visit a few months ago at the Cardinal’s apartment overlooking Saint Peter’s Square.
