MEETING OF GOVERNING BODY # 112004

Resolutions of the 151 Meeting of the Governing Body of the Economic Research Group held on 14th February 2004 at House # 57, Road # 6/A, Dhanmondi, Dhaka.

The meeting convened at 8 p.m. and was chaired by Professor Wahiduddin Mahmud, Chairman, Economic Research Group (ERG). Following members of the Governing Body were present in the Meeting:

1. Wahiduddin Mahumd 2. Syed Mainul Ahsan 3. Siddiqur Rahman Osmani 4. Sajjad Zohir 5. A.K. Enamul Haque

The Meeting unanimously decided the followings:

1. Sajjad Zohir was nominated the Executive Director.

2. A.K. Enamul Haque was nominated the Treasurer.

3. The Executive Director is authorized to open bank accounts in the name of the Economic Research Group in accordance with Clause 61 of the AoA. The bank accounts will bear signatures of the Chairman, Executive Director and the Treasurer, with the authorization that any two of them may operate the account at any time.

4 . For any sponsored undertaking, such as, research, workshops, and trainings, ERG will charge 10 percent of contract value (net of overhead) for facilitating the contract through ERG, maintaining the accounts/book-keeping, and for the usual correspondence with the sponsor . All other services provided by ERG or its members, will be charged at cost prices plus the VAT and other charges applicable.

S. With a view to encourage members of the academic and research communities both within and outside Bangladesh to affiliate with ERG activities, the following categories of affiliation are endorsed :

a. Fellows: Persons .with the ability to undertake independent initiative in the field of economic and social research both within and outside Bangladesh, and willing to be involved with ERG activities.

b. Associates: Any individual who is currently involved in economic research and/or teaching at the university level, and are keen on active involvement with ERG activities.

c. Visiting Fellows: Persons, normally fulfilling the requirements of Fellows, but affiliating with ERG on a temporary basis , will be called Visiting Fellows.

6. The Meeting endorsed the proposal of organizing ERG activities around five core ­programs, in addition to the general policy research. The programs are:

a. Program 1: Research on Selected Policy Issues b. Program 2: Monitoring of the Economy and Environment c. Program 3: Networking for Capacity Building in the field of economic

research and education d. Program 4: Publication of books on the economics of developing countries e. Program 5: Short course/training on specific themes.

7 . The Executive Director and the Treasurer were requested to prepare a brochure of ERG and get the prints done upon consultation with all members via email.

Resolutions of the l" Ordinary General Meeting of the Economic Research Group held on 14th February 2004 at House # 57, Road # 6/A, Dhanmondi, Dhaka .

The General Meeting convened at 7 p.m . and was chaired by Professor Wahiduddin Mahmud, Chairman, Economic Research Group (ERG) . Following members were present in the Meeting:

The Meeting unanimously passed the following resolutions : 1. Mr. Salim Rashid, Professor, University of Illinois , was included as a member of

the ERG General Body. 2. The Meeting nominated Professor Salim Rashid to serve as a member of the

3. The Meeting took note of clause 38.a of the Articles of Association of ERG, which mentions that meetings of the Governing Body "would include meetings using video conferencing, e-conferencing, tele-conferencing, etc." The Meeting decided that e­mail exchanges involving all members of the Governing Body and copies of such emails sent by members absent in anyone meeting and counter-signed by the Chairman or the Executive Director may be considered as valid representation of the particular member's view. Such exchanges, covering all major agendas in a meeting, will be considered a part of e-conferencing .

4 . The Meeting appointed M.A. Quader Kabir & Co., House # 11, Road # 1/A, Sector # 5, Uttara, Dhaka - 1230, as the Auditor of ERG accounts for the period till the next AGM.

FIRST MEETlNG OF THE GENERAL BODY OF ECONOMIC RESEARCH GROUP, 14 FEBRUARY 2004

The meeting of the General Body of the Economic Research Group was held on 14th

February 2004 at House # 57, Road # 6/A, Dhanmondi, Dhaka.

Attendance

The meeting was chaired by Professor Wahiduddin Mahmud, Chairman, Economic Research Group (ERG). The following members were present in the meeting:
