Type of work: This textbook is acomprehensive overview of theradiologic evaluation, diagnosis,and treatment of congenital andacquired urinary tract abnormalitiesof infants and children.

Contents: The 420-page book(with contributions from 34 authors)is divided into 26 chapters. The bookincludes 699 separate illustrations in377 figures and 52 tables. The firstchapter contains excellent detaileddescriptions of diagnostic proce-dures including fluoroscopic, ultra-sound, nuclear medicine, and MRurographic examinations. Indica-tions for these examinations andrecommended techniques are in-cluded. The next several chaptersreview urinary tract embryology,anatomy, and congenital anomalies.Later chapters focus on renalparenchymal diseases and acquiredabnormalities of the urinary tractincluding renal neoplasms, trauma,and urinary tract infection. Pediatricgenitourinary interventional tech-niques are discussed and illustratedin a separate chapter.

Strengths: The vast spectrum ofpediatric genitourinary tract abnor-malities are well-discussed andillustrated. The figures includethe numerous modalities used to

evaluate genitourinary diseases,including newer color Doppler,helical CT and MR imaging. Theimages and schematic presentationsare abundant, well-labeled with cleartext descriptions. The text includespathophysiologic correlation (in-cluding pertinent laboratory values),as well as discussion of surgical andinterventional treatment options andpostoperative complications.

The authors have done a won-derful job of demonstrating themultimodality evaluation of bothcomplex and common pediatricgenitourinary abnormalities en-countered in daily practice. Tech-niques and helpful ‘‘hints’’ forperforming the various radiologicexaminations are most beneficial notonly for residents in training, butalso for radiologists in all types ofpractice which include the care ofinfants and children.
