Dear Colleagues,

It is a pleasure to welcome you all for the meeting. I present to you, my report on

key activities of Archery Association of India during the period 1st November

2014 to 29th February 2016.

Foremost, we congratulate Mr Vijay Kumar Malhotra on being appointed as

President of the All India Council of Sports (Rank of Minister of State)

Government of India. A feeling of pride and joy on one hand and some sadness

on the other, as he had to resign as our President after years of resolve and

dedicated service for the cause of Archery. We will miss him and wish to thank

him for his leadership and guidance that has helped Indian Archery grow from its

infancy to a position at the pinnacle of World Archery.

We are now recognized all over the world as a force to reckon with in Archery.

Our Archers in Recurve and Compound division, both men and women in the

senior, junior and sub-junior categories are considered among the best. Our

Coaches are being sought after by various countries, having seen the

performance of our Archers. Our Judges have been recognized as being very

competent and have been given assignments at major World events and have

been bestowed with important responsibilities. Our Technical Officials and

Events team have conducted tournaments which are world class and World

Archery has appreciated the work done by India. All this has been made

possible under the leadership and guidance of Mr Malhotra and due to the

tremendous efforts put in by our Archery family. We will always look to him for

guidance, and wish him the very best in his tenure as President of All India

Council of Sports.

As per our Constitution, in the absence of the President, the Senior Vice

President will act for the President. Accordingly Mr Tarlochan Singh took over as

the Acting President and I thank him for his guidance and help.

We congratulate Ms Deepika Kumari on her name being announced for the

‘Padma Shree’ award by the Government of India. Her achievements as an

Archer at this young age are phenomenal and we are sure that her performances

in the years to come will make India proud. We wish her the very best.

We congratulate Naib Subedar Sandeep Kumar, our Compound Archer, for

being conferred the ‘Arjuna Award’ for his achievements. He is the 14th Arjuna

Awardee from the Archery discipline, and the 2nd Compound Archer.

National Child Awards were presented by the Hon President of India to 30

Children in different fields including the following five Archers for exceptional

achievement, at a ceremony in Rashtrapati Bhawan in the presence of Union

Minister for Women & Child Development.

2) Gora Ho (Jharkhand) - 14 years

3) K.Jyoshna (Andhra Pradesh) - 13 years

4) Anjali Kumari (Andhra Pradesh) - 10 years

5) Vijender Kumar (Haryana) - 14 years

Congratulations and best wishes to all the Archers. I believe that these Awards

will prove to be a source of encouragement and motivation for budding Archers

of the country.

I wish to thank all our Executive Members, especially our Treasurer and the

Chairman, Conveners and Members of our various Committees who have

always come forward and helped. I thank the Presidents, Secretaries and each

one of you from our Member States / Units for your support at all times and I am

confident that together, we will be able to achieve higher goals that we set

ourselves.

I convey my gratitude to the Technical Officials and Volunteers for the help

extended in making all our sporting events and activities a success. My sincere

thanks to our staff at the AAI office, who continue to put in hard work to cope with

the ever increasing work load.

We appreciate the support extended by TATA Sons and TATA Steels. However,

due to certain matters affecting their industry, they were unable to continue to

extend sponsorship support. We hope with a turn in fortunes of the industry, they

will come back to support us. We wish them the very best.

The Ministry of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship, Youth Affairs and Sports,

and the Sports Authority of India have provided us immense cooperation and

support, without which we could not have achieved success.

I thank the Indian Olympic Association for their guidance and help whenever

required.

I wish to thank the print and electronic media for giving our events and

tournaments extensive coverage.

The period under review has seen good progress due to dedicated work by

Members of the Archery family. We have also had some anxious times when our

Vice President Mr. K.S. Kang fell seriously ill, and our Treasurer Mr. Virender

Sachdeva met with an accident. With their determination and by the grace of

God they have recovered well and are back in our midst. We however had the

sad demise of our colleague Mr. Rathin Datta, after a prolonged battle with

cancer. He represented India as an Archer and then served Archery as an

International Judge and as a Competition Manager at several International meets

including the Asian Games and the Commonwealth Games. The AAI family pays

homage to late Mr. Rathin Datta.

The Archery Association of India is at a crucial stage, when there is a need to take

some important decisions that will help us move forward in the years to come.

The following pages give a month-wise account of key activities during the

period under review.

Archery Association of India had planned to field its 33 member team for the World Archery Youth Championships at Yangton, South Dakota, USA from 8th to 15th June, 2015. They were scheduled to depart on 5th June.

It was very unfortunate and disappointing that 19 US visa applications were rejected on the ground that applicants have not demonstrated that they have strong ties in

India that indicate that they will return after a temporary visit to the United States. The reason for not issuing visa was shocking. AAI had persistently followed up the

matter with the US Embassy in New Delhi and had requested the Minister of External Affairs and Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, for help in obtaining US Visa for the

Indian team. In addition, AAI had asked for help from World Archery and the US, LOC who in turn sought help from US Olympic Association. In spite of all these efforts, we were unable to succeed in getting visas for the entire Indian contingent.
