Otahuna Lodge

This magnificently restored lodge is only 20 minutes from Christchurch and boasts the turn-of-the-century gardens and one of New Zealand’s most important historic homes. The homestead is one of the best examples of unspoiled Queen Anne architecture existing in Australasia and it was originally built in 1895. Otahuna specialises in glorious food and we highly recommend a garden tour and cooking class with the chef! Otahuna is an excellent base to visit Akaroa on a day trip or explore the city with a guide.

Depart from your lodge and gaze in the vastness of New Zealand’s largest lake. Fly over Taupo City and see the in the distant South the three volcanoes: Mount Ruapehu, Tongariro and Mount Ngauruhoe – the latter become infamous as Mount Doom in the Lord of the Rings Movies. Fly over the stunning Huka Falls, New Zealand’s most visited natural landmark, the Craters of the Moon Geothermal Valley, Wairakei Terraces landing on the shores of the Waikato River at Orakei Korako. Depart and fly over the unique Waikite Valley, over Wai O Tapu and its’ prismatic pool: The Champagne Pool. Fly over Waimangu and the Echo Crater – the largest hot water lake in the world, the steaming cliffs, Lake Rotomahana – where once stood the pink and white terraces. Fly over Lake Tarawera, and land on the summit of the sacred mountain Mount Tarawera. Take in the sights from the highest peak in the Bay of Plenty and gaze at a spectacle, four million years in the making: the Taupo Volcanic Zone.

The track begins with a swing bridge and the track meanders through the native bush, largely following the river. Your guide will explain the Maori history surrounding this forest, the flora and fauna. After approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes of walking you will reach the Tarawera Falls, the most spectacular falls located in the bay of Plenty region. The Tarawera river plunges 65 metres down a sheer cliff face before tumbling down bush-lined rapids. There are also swimming holes on the way. *Please wear sturdy walking shoes or boots. We recommend bringing your swimwear, towel, a water bottle and small daypack.

Rotorua Adventure Day incl. Mountain Biking & White-Water Rafting *8hrs *Your guide will meet you at Huka Lodge to begin your adventure

Begin your day Mountain Biking in Whakarewarewa Redwood Forest. Rotorua has some of the best mountain biking on this planet. Surrounded by forest you have over 100kms of purpose built single track on our doorstep, beautiful lakes to cycle to and spectacular rides through thermal areas. Your ride is very much catered to you on the day, and after a short warm-up, you choose from the many options to suit your skill and fitness level. *Please wear comfortable clothing, gloves are optional and sports shoes. Following mountain biking you will be transferred to the Okere Store for a café lunch. After lunch you will be transferred to the VR Resort changing facility to get ready for rafting. This afternoon enjoy White Water Rafting! The Kaituna River provides an incredible white water journey, perfect for rafters of all confidence levels, including those who have never rafted before. This is a grade 5 trip. Passing through spectacular native bush and planted forest, you’ll escape the worries and cares of the urban world and enter into a special New Zealand environment of pristine beauty and peace. With time in between rapids to take in the scenery and the company of your fellow rafters, your trip will provide a true river journey experience. *You will be provided with Boating Equipment, wetsuit, life jacket, water resistant spray jacket, neoprene booties, fleece jersey and helmet. Winery Tour by Bike in the Hawke's Bay incl. Lunch at Craggy Range*6hrs *Your guide will meet you at The Farm at Cape Kidnappers Today’s cycle starts at Clifton near the base of the cliffs of Cape Kidnappers. From here you follow the coast

for approximately 7kms through the quaint settlements of Te Awanga and Haumoana. Wine tasting is available at the wineries of Clearview Estate and Elephant Hill along the way. On reaching Haumoana you turn inland and follow the Tuki Tuki River trail, with scenic views over orchards, vineyards and farmland, to the bustling village of Havelock North. A visit to the Origin Earth Cheese Factory and Tasting Room is a highlight for food lovers before continuing the short distance to Te Mata Estate winery. The trail ends at Black Barn Vineyard where you can browse the ‘We Love Local’ gourmet food store as well as tasting the wines and viewing the amphitheatre and market site which make Black Barn unique. End your adventure with lunch at Craggy Range Restaurant at Craggy Range Winery. Following lunch you will be transferred back to your accommodation.
