MAKING BLOCK A

1. Sew (1) 2” x WOF 4635-0111 strip to (1) 4637-0150 strip to make a two-strip panel. Make 4 panels. Crosscut each panel into 2” segments for a total of (72) 2” x 3-1/2” segments.

2. Stitch (2) segments together in a checkerboard design to make a four-patch corner square. Make 36.

3. Sew (1) 2” x WOF 4635-0111 strip to (1) 4642-0143 strip to make a two-strip panel. Make 4 panels. Crosscut each

panel into 2” segments for a total of (72) 2” x 3-1/2” segments.

4. Stitch (2) segments together in a checkerboard design to make a four-patch corner square. Make 36.

5. Sew (1) 2” x WOF 4651-0190 strip to (1) 0215-0144 strip to make a two-strip panel. Make 4 panels. Crosscut each panel into 2” segments for a total of (80) 2” x 3-1/2” segments.

6. Stitch (2) segments together in a checkerboard design to make

a four-patch corner square. Make 40.

7. Draw a diagonal line on (8) matching 3-1/2” dark print squares. Place a marked square, right sides together on the left end of

(1) 3-1/2” x 6-1/2” 4636-0113 rectangle as shown. Sew on the drawn line. Trim 1/4” beyond the drawn line and press the corner out.

8. Place a second marked square on the right end of the

rectangle as shown and sew on the drawn line. Trim 1/4” and press the corner out to make a flying geese unit. Make 112.

9. Sew (2) 5182-0114 triangles to opposite sides of (1) 4-

3/4” 4649-0116 square. Press the triangles out. 10. Sew (2) 5182-0114 triangles to the remaining sides of the

square. Press the triangles out to make a center square-in-a-square unit. Make 14.

11. Sew (2) 5182-0150 triangles to opposite sides of (1) 4-

3/4” 4649-0116 square. Press the triangles out. 12. Sew (2) 5182-0150 triangles to the remaining sides of the

square. Press the triangles out to make a center square-in-a-square unit. Make 14.

13. Lay out (1) center square-in-a-square unit, (4)

matching flying geese units and (4) matching four-patch corner squares in 3 rows of 3 units each as shown. Sew the units together in each row. Join the rows to make Block A. Make 28 blocks.

MAKING BLOCKS B AND C

Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of (56) 3-7/8” 4635-0144 squares. Place a marked square, right sides together, on (1) 3-7/8” 4635-0138 square. Sew 1/4” away on both sides of the drawn line. Cut on the drawn line to make two half-square triangle units. Make 112 units.

2. Referring to Diagram #2; draw a diagonal line on (8) matching 3-1/2” dark print squares. Place a marked square, right sides

together on the left end of (1) 3-1/2” x 6-1/2” 4635-0144 rectangle as shown. Sew on the drawn line. Trim 1/4” beyond the drawn line and press the corner out.

3. Place a second marked square on the right end of the rectangle as shown and sew on the drawn line. Trim 1/4” and press the

corner out to make a flying geese unit. Make 112. 4. Referring to Diagram #3; sew (2) 4644-0116 triangles to opposite sides of (1) 4-3/4” 0618-0190 square. Press the triangles out. 5. Sew (2) 4644-0116 triangles to the remaining sides of the square. Press the triangles out to make a center square-in-a-square

unit. Make 14.

6. Sew (2) 4651-0116 triangles to opposite sides of (1) 4-3/4” 4636-0116 square. Press the triangles out.

7. Sew (2) 4651-0116 triangles to the remaining sides

of the square. Press the triangles out to make a center square-in-a-square unit. Make 14.

8. Lay out (1) 0618-0190 center square-in-a-square

unit, (4) matching flying geese units and (4) half-square triangle units in 3 rows of 3 units each as shown. Sew the units together in each row. Join the rows to make Block B. Make 14 blocks.

9. Lay out (1) 4636-1006 center square-in-a-square

unit, (4) matching flying geese units and (4) half-square triangle units in 3 rows of 3 units each as shown. Sew the units together in each row. Join the rows to make Block C. Make 14 blocks.

ASSEMBLING THE QUILT See Diagram 7, page 7

Lay out the A blocks, alternating with the B and C blocks as shown in 8 rows of 7 blocks each.

Sew the blocks together in each row. Join the rows to complete the quilt top.

FINISHING

Layer the quilt, batting and backing. Quilt as desired.

Bind the quilt with double-fold binding made with the 2-1/2” x 42” 5182-0113 strips.
