Sewing LessonObjectives: •Students will learn about quilting in the African American Communities.•Students will create a collage quilt square by cutting out shapes/symbols from felt.•Students will learn how to thread a needle.•Students will learn a running stitch.•Students will learn how to sew on buttons.

Procedures:•Each student will choose a 9”x12” piece of felt.•Each student will cut out additional pieces of felt to create symbols, pictures.•Students will thread a neele, and learn the running stitch.•Students will learn how to sew on buttons and add embellishments.•Each student will add his/her quilt square to the large class quilt.

Assessment:•Student work will be evaluated on whether the running stitch was completed properly, proper threading of a needle, sewing on a button technique.•This is a community class project therefore each student is required to add to the class quilt.
