Safety information

Before you get started

� The 1&1 WLAN-Router does not have an on/off switch. As such, it must be possible to unplug the 1&1 WLAN-Router at all times. Plug the 1&1 WLAN-Router into an easily accessible power socket.

� Overloaded sockets, extension cables and multiple socket outlets can cause fires and electrocution. Avoid the use of extension cables and multiple socket outlets wherever possible. Do not connect several extension cables or multiple socket outlets together.

� Heat build-ups can lead to the 1&1 WLAN-Router overheating. This could damage the 1&1 WLAN-Router. Ensure there is suf-ficient air circulation around the 1&1 WLAN-Router. Ensure that the ventilation slots on the housing of the 1&1 WLAN-Router remain unobstructed. Do not place the 1&1 WLAN-Router on rugs, carpets or upholstered furniture. Do not cover the 1&1 WLAN-Router.

� The underside of the 1&1 WLAN-Router may become warm during normal operation. This heat may cause damage to heat-sensitive surfaces. Do not place the 1&1 WLAN-Router on heat-sensitive surfaces.

� In the case of storms, there is a risk of lightning strike, which could lead to surge damages to connected electronic devices. Do not install the 1&1 WLAN-Router during a storm. In the case of storms, unplug the 1&1 WLAN-Router and disconnect the DSL or VDSL connection.

� If moisture or liquid reaches the 1&1 WLAN-Router, it could lead to electric shocks or short circuits. Only ever use the 1&1 WLAN-Router inside buildings. Do not allow any liquids to get inside the 1&1 WLAN-Router.

� There is a risk to users if the 1&1 WLAN-Router is opened in-correctly or if improper repairs are carried out. Do not open the housing of the 1&1 WLAN-Router. If repairs are needed, return the 1&1 WLAN-Router to 1&1.

� Dust, moisture and steam, as well as strong detergents or solvents, can damage the 1&1 WLAN-Router. Protect the 1&1 WLAN-Router from dust, moisture and steam. Always unplug the 1&1 WLAN-Router before cleaning. Clean the 1&1 WLAN-Router with a damp, lint-free cloth.

� Do not use the 1&1 WLAN-Router in areas where the use of wireless equipment is forbidden. Follow the relevant signs or instructions from authorised personnel.

� During installation and operation of the 1&1 WLAN-Router, ensure that people maintain a distance of at least 20 cm.

� Do not install or operate your 1&1 WLAN-Router near flamma-ble gases or in areas where there is a risk of explosion.

� Location – easily accessible and central Position the 1&1 WLAN-Router so there are no obstacles, such as cupboards or other electronic devices, between your 1&1 WLAN-Router and Wi-Fi-enabled devices.

� Connect the 1&1 WLAN-Router to the master telepho-ne socket Only connect the 1&1 WLAN-Router to the master telephone socket. Ask a technician to remove all other telephone sockets where possible, as these may interfere with the signal.

� Do not connect any other devices to the master tele-phone socket Connect all other devices, such as telephones, fax machines and answering machines, to the 1&1 WLAN-Router only. Do not connect any devices directly to the telephone socket.

� Do not use any extension cables between the telepho-ne socket and the 1&1 WLAN-Router Do not extend the cable linking the telephone socket to the 1&1 WLAN-Router. The longer this cable is, the more likely there will be external interferences to the connection.

� Use 1&1 Start-Code The 1&1 Start-Code guarantees a complete installation and the smooth running of your DSL connection. You can only set up your device with the 1&1 Start-Code if the device is in its origi-nal condition, or has been restored to factory settings.

The 1&1 WLAN-Router is a FRITZ!Box 7412, manufactured by AVM. As such, the designation of the manufacturer AVM FRITZ!Box 7412 is found in the user interface and in the network name (SSID).

1. Connect 1&1 WLAN-Router

Note:

Only use the original po-wer supply delivered with this 1&1 WLAN-Router!

Step 1

Plug in the 1&1 WLAN-Router to a power socket using the power supply cable.

The “Power / DSL” light will start to flash after a few seconds.

Step 2

Plug the long end of the DSL cable into the port labelled “DSL” on your 1&1 WLAN-Router.

Plug the other end of the DSL cable into the port labelled “F” on the telephone socket.

There will be no DSL connection until your DSL connection date.

The connection will be available by 6pm at the latest on this day.

1&1 will inform you of your connec-tion date by letter, email and SMS.

Step 4

The “Power / DSL” light will stop flashing and will be permanently illuminated once the connection to the DSL network has been established. This may take a few minutes.

Note:

Only connect the 1&1 WLAN-Router to the mas-ter telephone socket! Ask a technician to remove all other telephone sockets where possible, as these may interfere with the signal and affect your connection.

2. Connect device

Use the network cable to connect the 1&1 WLAN-Router to the network port on your computer.

Connect smartphone / tablet via Wi-Fi

Open the Wi-Fi menu item on your smart-phone or tablet. Follow the steps listed in the table.

1. Select your Wi-Fi wireless network (SSID).

2. Enter the wireless network key. Click on Connect or Done.

1. Turn on Wi-Fi on your computer. Follow the steps listed in the table.

2. The available Wi-Fi networks will be dis-played. Connect to your wireless network (SSID).

3. Enter the wireless network key.

Ensure that the Wi-Fi LED is illuminated on the 1&1 WLAN-Router. If so, press the “WLAN” button.

Step 1

Open your web browser (e.g. Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer, Edge). The configuration page will be displayed. If the configuration page does not open automatically, enter http://fritz.box or http://192.168.178.1 into the address line of your browser.

Determine a FRITZ!Box password 2 and click on OK 2a .

Enter the FRITZ!Box password again when you are asked to.

Please note that we can only guarantee a complete installation and smooth functioning of your DSL account if you use the 1&1 Start-Code!

Step 4

Enter the 12-character 1&1 Start-Code, containing both upper and lower case letters and numbers, into the appropriate field. 4 .

Ignore the hyphens. When entering the Start-Code, make sure that you enter the Start-Code correctly into the two rows, without making any typing errors.

Click on Weiter (Continue) 4a .

If you receive an error message, try entering the 1&1 Start-Code again.

Once you have successfully set up your connection, you will see an overview of your telephone numbers.

Activate “Mit der Einrichtung Ihrer Telefone, Faxgeräte und Anrufbeant-worter fortfahren” (Continue to set-up your telephone and fax devices) and click on Weiter (Continue) 6 .

You have now set up your device and your DSL connection. You can now surf the web and, once you have connected a telephone to the FON connection you can also make phone calls.

Step 7

The setup assistant „Telefoniegeräte verwal-ten“ is started. With this assistant you setup your telephones, fax machines, message boxes and you determine:

� which number is used to make outgoing calls (telephone, fax).

� on which number the connected devices will react.

Click on Beenden (finish) 6 .

4. Connect telephone

The telephone number that you gave to or received from 1&1 when placing your order will be set up for 1&1 telephone calls once you have entered the 1&1 Start-Code.

Cordless telephones (DECT

Read and follow the instructions provided with your DECT telephone to manually set up a base station.

As soon as you are requested to press the registration/paging button on the base station, press and hold the DECT button A on the 1&1 WLAN-Router until the LED of the same name starts to flash.

The default DECT pin for the 1&1 WLAN-Router is “0000”.

Troubleshooting

The connection date has not yet passed

Wait for your connection to be set-up. You can find your connection date in your documentation. The connection will be available by 6pm at the latest on this day.

No phone line connection or faulty phone line

Telephone not connected correctly Plug the telephone in properly.

DECT telephone doesn’t work Activate DECT on your 1&1 WLAN-Router. Open up the FRITZ!Box user interface. Click on DECT > Base station. Tick the DECT box and click Confirm.

Telephone numbers allocated incorrectly

Allocate the telephone numbers correctly to the devices. see ”Handbuch DSL“

Unstable DSL connection Open up the FRITZ!Box user interface. Click on Internet > DSL information > Interference resistance. Choose: Maximum stability. > page 24

Incorrect login details Enter the correct login details. > page 13

Incorrect cabling

Most faults are due to issues with the cables.

Ensure that the DSL cable is plugged into the DSL port on the 1&1 WLAN-Router A and that the other end of the cable is plugged into the port labelled “F” on the telephone socket B .

The password provides ac-cess to the user interface.

Step 1

Open your browser and go to http://fritz.box.

Step 2

Enter your password and click on Anmelden (Log on) 2 .

No connection between the 1&1 WLAN-Router and the device

Check the manufacturer’s instruction manual for your device (e.g. compu-ter, smartphone, tablet) to find out how to establish a connection to your 1&1 WLAN-Router.

Check the settings on your device and try to connect again.

Step 1

Open your browser and go to http://fritz.box. Enter your password and click on Anmelden (Log on).

Step 2

Click on Diagnose > Funktion (Diagnostics > Run). 2 .

Step 3

Click on Starten (Start). 3 .

The diagnostics tool will now check the device and all the connections. If a fault is discovered, further tools will be displayed, which you can use to seek out the error.

This will take you to the overview page for the 1&1 WLAN-Router. If there is a green light in front of “Internet”, the 1&1 WLAN-Router is connected to the internet.

If the 1&1 WLAN-Router is not connected to the internet for over five minutes, use the di-agnostics tool to find the cause of the fault.

Plug the 1&1 WLAN-Router back into the plug socket and wait until the Wi-Fi LED is permanently illuminated. The Power / DSL LED will continue to flash.

Now connect the 1&1 WLAN-Router to the telephone socket.

Reset 1&1 WLAN-Router to factory settings

Save settings

By restoring factory set-tings, all settings, telepho-ne books, dial options etc. will be deleted. As such, it is important to save your settings and telephone books before restoring the 1&1 WLAN-Router.

The 1&1 WLAN-Router will now be reset. This may take a few minutes. Your 1&1 WLAN-Router automatically restarts and must then be set up again using the 1&1 Start-Code.

Completing the factory settings

Do not under any circum-stances unplug the device from the power socket - it can damage the firmware.

The 1&1 WLAN-Router is ready for use as soon as the Power / DSL LED is permanently illuminated.

Click on System > Sicherung (System > Security) 1 in the 1&1 WLAN-Router menu.

Click on Werkseinstellungen (Factory settings) 2 .

Open your browser and go to http://fritz.box. Enter your password and click on Anmelden (Log on).

Click on Ansicht: Standard (view: stan-dard) 2 at the foot of the window.

Click on Internet > DSL-Informationen > Störsicherheit.

Set the marks of Angestrebte Störab-standsmarge, Impulsstörfestigkeit (INP) und Erkennung von Funkstö-rungen (RFI) on maximale Stabilität (maximum stability) 4 .

symbol shown means that the old device and the electronic parts supplied with it must be disposed of separately from domestic waste, so they can be recycled. Please help in this matter and do your bit to help the environment by not disposing of your old device or any of the included electronic components in your household waste.

After use, please bring old devices and electronic parts that are less than 25 centimetres in length to your local waste disposal site for old electrical and electronic devices or to a collection point provided by our disposal partner Interseroh, so they can be dispo-sed of properly and in an environmentally friendly way. For more information about disposal and where you can find a collection point run by our disposal partner, please visit www.1und1.de/entsorgung or see your 1&1 Control-Center.

You can also take regular quantities of old devices and electronic components that are over 25 centimetres in length to your local waste disposal site for old electrical and electronic devices.

When purchasing a new device from 1&1, you can hand in an old device of the same kind to our disposal partner Interseroh. Simply take along the disposal ticket included with the delivery of your new 1&1 device.

You can hand in your old device to Interseroh up to 6 weeks from the date you purchased the new 1&1 device. Once this period has elapsed, the Interseroh collection point is no longer obligated to accept your old device.

Disposal is free of charge. Please delete all personal information from the device before you dispose of it.
