QUICK TUTORIAL TO USING ONLINE

ANALYSIS WITH THE WVSWhat follows is a quick tutorial on how to use the online analysis tool and the

Documentation/Downloads option.

Go to Online Analysis option (1) and select a wave (2)

Select the country or countries to compare (3) and click Next (4)

Select a variable by locating it on the list and clicking Show (5)

On the results list, select Export to PDF (6) to Excel (7) or select viewing options:

(9) Show question translation for other samples

(10) Cross by other variables

This is how graphics are shown. You can export the graphics to PDF/Excel (A), change the type

of graphics (B) and pivot, configure or magnify the graph (C)

You can also see time series for the select countries and question by clicking the time series

tab (11).

In the time series view you can export results to PDF (12) or Excel (13) and show graphics (14).

This is how the graphics are shown. You can select the country (A) or switch the graphics view

(B) to compare countries by categories instead of categories by country.

And if you want to see the maps, click over Maps tab (15) (this works for all countries).

From the mapping view you can export to PDF and Excel (16), select the continent to view (17),

select the type of indicator to display (18), set options for the indicator – when needed – (19)

and view the indicator values (20). Don’t worry to play with the options.

If you need already produced data, consider going to the Documentation & Data options and

download either the aggregated results by country or any country results report by sex and

age:

Click Documentation/Downloads and then the Wave (1)

Select Integrated Documentation or else any country (2)

Click the codebook document to download it (3)

In any case you will be asked to register and accept terms (6) (7).

Then click Download (8)

The resulting PDF has a question index on the left side to quickly locate variables (A).

For each question you can see the English wording (B), the country specific wording (C) and the

crossings by sex and age (D).

You can quickly jump from the country documentation screen to the Participant record in the

WVS Network by clicking over its name (9).

The participant record has also links to quickly jump to the documentation section (10) or the

online analysis (11).
