Southern Cross University acknowledges and pays respect to the ancestors, Elders and descendants of the Lands upon which we meet and study. We are mindful that within and without the concrete and steel of buildings, these Lands always were and always will be Aboriginal Land.

The globally significant project, led by Southern Cross University’s Professor Peter Harrison, aims to regenerate the reef by harvesting coral sperm and eggs, growing new larvae and releasing them back onto heavily degraded sections of the Great Barrier Reef.

The rising YouTube star and maths teacherSouth Grafton High School Teacher. Young Alumnus of the Year 2019.
If it takes becoming a rising YouTube star to get students interested in maths, Holly Millican isn’t afraid.
“Maths doesn’t need to feel like an ominous hour-long period that students dread,” says Holly.
The Southern Cross graduate teaches at South Grafton High School.
Her first video, showing some of the ingenious ways she makes maths fun, won a prestigious state prize that gave her the opportunity to work with the maths teacher and YouTube personality, Eddie Woo.
It also kickstarted her emerging YouTube channel, inspiring other maths teachers. Who said maths isn’t glamorous?

Sporting passion becomes a careerStrength and Conditioning Coach, Brisbane Broncos
When Blake Duncan knew he would not make it as a young rugby player, he chose the next best thing: training elite athletes.
“The degree I completed at Southern Cross enabled me to connect with some excellent mentors,” says Blake, who completed a professional placement with the Brisbane Broncos, as he developed the skills to succeed in a high-performance environment.
“I was fortunate enough to learn from lecturers and tutors with industry-specific experience throughout the course.”
Now a Rehabilitation Coach, Blake is responsible for returning injured players to full training and competition. “By working in conjunction with medical, performance and coaching staff, we develop individual training programs to enable the athletes to be at their best. I think I’ve got the best job in the world,” he says.
The lawyer and artists’ champion Solicitor, Kay & Hughes Entertainment Lawyers
Thomas – Tom – Lynch is the sort of rock star you’d want to end up in the courtroom with.
The passionate yet humble drummer and self-confessed ‘garage producer’ is a solicitor with Kay & Hughes Entertainment Lawyers in Sydney.
He spends his days helping artists of all kinds navigate the colourful life of being a creative who makes a living.
“Law touches every aspect of our lives and I love helping to arm artists with the tools they need to be sure that their work is valued and protected,” says Tom. In his ‘spare’ time, Tom now lectures in Media Law at the Australian Institute of Music.
Empathy and compassion are tools of the tradeRegistered Nurse, The Tweed Hospital
From an early age, Ashleigh Woods knew she wanted to be a nurse and a midwife.
After graduating with her nursing degree from Southern Cross in 2015, she completed postgraduate studies in midwifery. Ashleigh now works as a nurse at The Tweed Hospital’s emergency department and Women’s Care Unit, helping to deliver babies.
During her nursing degree, Ashleigh volunteered in Nepal, assisting community health workers and teaching healthy hygiene practices.
“I really hope to make a difference in people’s lives by providing compassionate care to my patients. The incredible facilities at Southern Cross simulate a real hospital environment. That really helped me before getting out into the actual hospital environment,” says Ashleigh.
Blake Duncan Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science
Thomas Lynch Bachelor of Contemporary Music, Bachelor of Laws

Pathway course graduate Jordan is now studying Marine Science “My grades weren’t very good in high school. After graduation I entered the workforce and almost completed a trade apprenticeship, however what I really wanted to do was to follow my passion for the ocean and turn it into a career.
When I found out about Southern Cross University’s Preparing for Success at SCU Program I wasn’t sure if I was even capable of studying. I really went in with no expectations, but to my surprise, I did quite well. It prepared me for studying, got me the grades I needed to enrol and taught me the skills to do well at university.
I’m over halfway through my degree now and the subjects are really interesting. We go on field practicals to rockpools, beaches, rivers and I’ve also done my scuba dive instructor course down in Coffs Harbour. I was also selected for the New Colombo Plan Scholarship and this has enabled me to study extensively overseas.
I want to be a coral researcher so I’m planning to do my Honours and then a PhD after my degree.”
SCU College If you don’t meet the Bachelor degree entry requirements, SCU College offers a range of alternative pathways to university study.
The Preparing for Success at SCU Program (PSP) can be completed full-time over 12 weeks or part-time in one year, either on campus or online. SCU College classes are small and extra support is available for all students.PSP equips you with the study skills needed for success at university. Students who complete the program can proceed directly to a Southern Cross University degree with the confidence that they are well-prepared.
Transition to Uni is an intensive preparation course designed for school leavers who have just completed
Year 12, but who did not obtain an ATAR to enter university. It is delivered over the summer break so you can start your undergraduate degree at the beginning of the academic year.
The College also offers a range of Diplomas, which are guaranteed pathways to a Bachelor degree, provided you achieve the required results. Diplomas provide up to one year of credit towards a Bachelor degree.
