Writing Skill Package

A. Finding out answer of questions from Passage and writing it

down.

Passage No.1

It takes a village to raise medalist when you start out playing football, cricket,

badminton, tennis or most any other sport, you can pretty much start with a toy bat,

ball or racket. But when you want to be a shooter?

Toy guns are not an option. Tejaswini, 29, used to do some.22 shooting as an NCC

cadet in Kolhapur but when she wanted to turn professional, she realized she had no

access to equipment and no means to acquire her own.

In 1999, a coach, jaisinghKusale, spotted potential in Tejaswini and loaned her a

10- meter air rifle. Just as things were looking up, the coach passed away and the rifle

Page 29: Questionnaire for Teacher - INFLIBNETshodhganga.inflibnet.ac.in/bitstream/10603/26950/13/14_appendix.pdf1 Appendix – A Questionnaire for Teacher SECTION – A 1. Name (beginning

29

was sent away with his other belongings. She had an18-month break in my shooting

career as I had no access to a rifle she recounts. “I had to make do with borrowed

rifles and, on one occasion, even lost out in the trial for the National Games on

account of a bad rifle.”

She talks about the importance of getting acquainted with a rifle. “You have to get

used to the rifle and it has to get used to you. Butt plate, cheek piece, balance, hand

position, all need to be perfectly synchronized. On many occasions, I would get a rifle

just minutes before my turn and I would end up using the same settings as the earlier

person. There was no time to get acquainted.”

(1) Why could Tejaswini not practice for 18 months?

Ans .Tejaswini used to practice with the rifle that was loaned to her by her coach

JaisinghKusale. When JaisinghKusale died, the rifle was sent away with his other

belongings. So, Tejaswini could not practice for 18 months.

(2) Why should a shooter get acquainted with a rifle?

Ans. A shooter has to use to a rifle and has to get used to the shooter. Butt plate,

cheek piece, balance and hand position get perfectly synchronized if the shooter

gets acquainted with a rifle. Then only his/her performance becomes accurate.

(3) What problems had Tejaswini to face when she wanted to be professional

shooter?

Ans. When Tejaswini wanted to be a professional shooter, she had no access to a

rifle and no money to buy her own rifle. Her coach Jaisingh Kusale loaned her his

10-meter air rifle. But when he died, the rifle was sent away with his other

belongings and Tejaswini had no rifle for practice, for 18 months.

(1) Find four names of sports / games from the passage.

Ans. Football, cricket, badminton, tennis.

(2) Find words/phrases which mean: (i)died (ii) abilities

Ans. (i) Passed away (ii) potential

Page 30: Questionnaire for Teacher - INFLIBNETshodhganga.inflibnet.ac.in/bitstream/10603/26950/13/14_appendix.pdf1 Appendix – A Questionnaire for Teacher SECTION – A 1. Name (beginning

30

(3) Personal response /Thinking skill.

Answer the following questions.

(1) What is the importance of gun to a shooter?

Ans. For a shooter, a gun is as much important as his skill in shooting. A shooter

has to get used to the rifle and the rifle has to get used to the shooter. For perfect

shooting, the butt plate, cheek piece, balance and position of the shooter should be

perfectly synchronized for this ample practice with the same rifle or gun is very

essential.

Passage No 2. The Thief

Ranjit raced downstairs, eyes flashing, hair flying. “Mother I’ll never, play with

again!” he shouted, beating the air with his fists.

“Why, Ranjit, I thought Prabash was your very best friend,” said mother looking up

from her work. “Tell me about it.”

“Prabash stole. He’s a thief! I’ll tell him so too. He’d better not come here again.”

Never call anyone unless you are sure, “warned mother. “What proof has you that he

stole?”

“He took my walnuts we gathered last Friday.”

“When did he do that?”

“Yesterday, while he was here.”

“No-no, not really. But he was looking at them when we were we playing upstairs

yesterday. That was just before he went home. I had ten big walnuts; now there are

only six. That means he stole four.”

“Prabash does not look like a boy who would take things,” said mother calmly.

“Don’t worry any more. Maybe already! If he has, I’ll give him a beating.”

Page 31: Questionnaire for Teacher - INFLIBNETshodhganga.inflibnet.ac.in/bitstream/10603/26950/13/14_appendix.pdf1 Appendix – A Questionnaire for Teacher SECTION – A 1. Name (beginning

31

“Son, I am surprised at you.” Mother was shocked. “Does the Bible teach you to

fight? I thought it said to love your enemies.”

Ranjit hung his head. “Maybe it does. But Prabash better remember that the Bible

says he should not steal.”

“If he did steal maybe he will be sorry and come and tell you so. Wouldn’t you like

to bring mother some wood?”

Ranjit went out, banging the door behind him .After the wood was in box he went into

compound and looked across at the small house where Prabash lived. “I wonder what

he’s doing?” he asked himself.

At supper that night Ranjit was unhappy and ate little. No one mentioned Prabash or

walnuts. At worship Ranjit thought about Prabash, but said nothing.

Answer the following questions.

(1) Why did Ranjit think that Prabash stolen the walnuts?

Ans. When Prabash had gone to Ranjit’s house to play with Ranjit had noticed

that Prabash was looking at the walnuts. After that he went home .Ranjit had ten

big walnuts. He found that only six had remained .so he thought that Prabash had

stolen four walnuts.

(2) Why did Ranjit call Prabash a thief?

Ans. Ranjit had gathered walnuts on Friday. He found that four of were missing.

Before that Prabash had gone to play with him and he was looking at the walnuts

just before going home. Ranjit thought that Prabash had stolen the walnuts and so

he called him a thief.

Passage No 3. My dear shivani,

I was fortunate that I could participate in India’s struggle for freedom. Today I wish to

write to you about freedom, not just in the political context. Bharatiyasankriti tells us,

that to be free does not mean that one is not subjected to restriction of any kind, to be

free means to experience a feeling of openness. Liberation means being able to do

one’s work with contentment and enthusiasm.

We perform many actions and some of them become a burden to us. We are irritated

by them. This happens when the work we do, is not to our liking, and secondly we do

not like the person for whom we have to work. If a teacher does not find pleasure in

teaching and if he is not interested in his students, the job of teaching becomes a

burden to him. But if a teacher enjoys teaching and his students enjoy learning under

his guidance.

Many saints have attained liberation by performing service through the work in the

vocation which they liked. Kabir was a weaver. He was happy while working as a

weaver. The feeling in his heart was, ‘I have to offer this fabric to society which I

regard as God. I have to worship God through my work.’ Saint Savatamali has written

that he worshiped God Vitthal through his work as a gardener.

(I) Complete the following sentences.

(1) To be free means…………………………………

Ans.To experiences a feeling of openness.

(2) Liberation means…………………………………

Ans. Being able to do one’s work with contentment and enthusiasm.

(3) Many saints have attained liberation by……………………..

Ans. Performing services through the work in the vocation which they liked.

(4) Saint Kabir worshipped God…………………………………

Ans. Through his work.

Answer the following questions.

(1) How can a teacher find pleasure in teaching?

Ans. If a teacher does not like the teaching and does not like the students for

whom he has to work, he finds his work as a burden and he is irritated by it. On

the contrary, if a teacher loves knowledge, likes books and loves his students,

he can find pleasure in teaching.

(2) What did Saint Kabir feel while weaving?

Ans. Saint Kabir was a weaver. He was happy while working as a weaver. He

felt that he had to offer that he had to worship God through his work.

Find four words related to the profession of teaching.

(i) Teacher (ii) knowledge (iii) books (iv) students

Personal response

(1) How is action a way of worship?

Ans. We have to perform many actions. We like some of them but don’t like

some them we should select the vocation of our liking. While working, we

should think that we worship God through our actions. We should consider our

To The Editor, The Times of India, Mumbai – 400 001.

Sub: Overburdening of school children

Respected Sir,

As an educationist, I am greatly concern about and disturbed over the

way our school- going children are made to carry overstuffed school bags

on their delicate shoulders. The school bag usually weighs almost half the

weight of the child. This is at the instance of our educational authorities

who fail to realize the poor child’s real need they have prescribed an

overambitious syllabus for these very young children.

To add to the woes of the child, a heavy dose of homework is prescribed

every day which leaves very little or no time for the child to do anything

but study. The child is virtually imprisoned within the four walls of the

house struggling with tedious homework every day.

Dear Grandpa, I received your letter and read it. In order to understand the thoughts

expressed in it. I had to read it 2-3 times. I thank you dear grandpa for writing such a

letter to me. Through your letter, I have learnt a lesson for life.

After reading it carefully, I have understood the meaning of liberation; I have

also understood why some kind of work becomes a burden for us. I have decided to

love my work and take interest in it. The feeling of the saint’s life Kabir and savata

Mali, about their work, have greatly impressed me. They have explained a great

principal in very simple words.

I will always remember the valuable teachings of Bharatiya Sanskriti. I will try to

follow them in my future life .I will try my best to establish and propagate social

equality in our society. I will never discriminate between people on the basis of

caste, religion, gender or property.

Thank you Grand –pa once again, for this valuable guidance. Indeed, it has shown

me the right path in life

Convey my regards to Granny. Waiting for your next letter.

Yours affectionately, Shivani

C. Speech Writing

You got the topic to deliver a speech on ‘Problem of a common man’ follow the steps and prepare a speech. State the problem briefly

Describe the problem with examples, with the causes

State some realistic solution to the problem

 A proper conclusion for it.

Problem of a common man

Honorable judges, respected teachers and my friends, it is said that the common man

is the backbone of the society and national wealth of a country. But this common man

is always confronted with a number of problem is- ‘Scarcity of water’ the basic need

of life. People staying in slums in cities have to struggle for getting sufficient water

every day. People carrying pots and pans and standing in long queues, pushing each

other and quarrelling, is a common sight on roads. During summer, people fight with

one another, abuse others and sometimes physically assault others. Sometimes, in the

rush for getting water, some of them are cursed under the tankers. When such news

items appear in newspapers or on TV, People discuss the issue for some time, blame

the authorities, express regret and forget it within a short while.

The condition of villagers is worse than this. In some village, during summer, wells

and rivers dry up with no water in bore-wells.but in cities overpopulation is

responsible for this problem. In villages, severe drought conditions are the cause of

this grim situation. The relief plans of the government have proved. Let’s think of

solution of this problem as far as crowded cities are concerned, people living in slums

areas should be given small homes with adequate water supply. The number of water

tankers for providing water to these areas should be increased. Even garden should be

watered with water used for bathing, washing clothes and cleaning potes and pans etc.

limited use of coolers and ACs must be made. Rain water harvesting should be

planned.

2. Draft a short speech in favour and against the topic on ‘We work only for Earning Money’

Good Morning Friends,

As everybody knows, the entire world revolves round money.

Everybody tries to earn as much as possible because a number of things are

accomplished with the help of money. Money gives happiness. All our

demands and desires can be fulfilled by money. A rich man always receives

honour and respect from people. Rich people are always in demands and

Page 41: Questionnaire for Teacher - INFLIBNETshodhganga.inflibnet.ac.in/bitstream/10603/26950/13/14_appendix.pdf1 Appendix – A Questionnaire for Teacher SECTION – A 1. Name (beginning

41

command. It is said that ‘Money makes the mare go’. Everything can be

achieved by money

But friends, remember, money is like a double edged knife. Too much money

is a curse. Unhappy is the man who has more money than he deserves or can

conveniently look after. The joys bought by money are short lived. Money

cannot give us lasting satisfaction. All the joys of life cannot be bought by

money..Money minded people narrow minded. They become proud and

arrogant. They become greedy and try to earn more and more. They lose their

sensitivity and become practical.

Dear friends, a golden rule we can keep in our mind that Money is to

consider ourselves in the position of trustee who has got money by the way of

trust. God has given us money. It is our duty to make the best use of money

for the greatest good as a trustee is supposed to do. This way, we shall never

fail and never abuse money.

In this age’ machines have become friends of man. They work for us and save our

energy and time. They work accurately without making mistakes. One machine does

the work of a number of people. For handicapped people, machines are really a boon.

Even though a lame person cannot walk, he can ride a scooter and go wherever he

wants to go. Robots work in dangerous surroundings make human beings cannot

work. One has to admit that there are some demerits also. Machines supply. The use

of machines leads to unemployment. Sometimes machines cause accidents too. Still

we have to admit that machines have become our essential part of life.

Now day’s computers are found in every house where people are educated. The

advantages of computers are many, such as – a computer stores lot of information. It

reduces the use of paper so we can call it eco- friendly. It enables the users to send

messages in a fraction of a second. With the help of websites, getting information on

any subject is possible. Computer is an effective means for teaching- learning activity.

However, computer has some disadvantages too. One computer does the work

of a number of people so employment is rising. Excessive use of computer is harmful

to health- particularly to eyes and backbone. People and children get addicted to it and

waste a lot of time in chatting playing games and sometimes visiting improper sites.

Computer makes people lead a sedentary life and makes them idle. People forget

hunger and thirst and turn into a machine losing human touch. Therefore, we should

use a computer only when we cannot do without it.

4. Here, boy is compared to a calf. Many times a person is compared to animals,

birds and insects. Form a group of four students each, discuss and develop a

paragraph with following points:

• What is the common quality in them?

• Why are they so compared?

• Is it proper to compare them like this?

Page 44: Questionnaire for Teacher - INFLIBNETshodhganga.inflibnet.ac.in/bitstream/10603/26950/13/14_appendix.pdf1 Appendix – A Questionnaire for Teacher SECTION – A 1. Name (beginning

44

• When do we use such expression?

Comparisons with animals

We find that many a times a person is compared to animals, birds and insects. This is

done to highlight the common quality between them. Our observation of the

behaviour of those animals, birds and insects leads us to draw those conclusions.

These comparisons are made when we want to appreciate a person or to criticize a

person for the quality possessed by him/her. It is not proper to compare them like this

because the animals, birds or insects do not behave with a particular purpose. Man, on

the contrary, behave purposefully to make others feel that he possessed certain

qualities. Moreover, these qualities are attributed by us on those animals, birds and

insects. On the contrary, it has been found that a donkey is a thoughtful animal.

However, such expressions are used in stories to make them more interesting and

amusing.
