Answers.

Answer: By reducing our energy consumption, we also reduce our impact on the environment. If we reduce our fossil fuel consumption, we generate less greenhouse gas. If we reduce our hydroelectric demands, we help prevent further flooding of land to build new dams.

• What final temperature will be attained by a 250 ml cup of 10 oC water if it absorbs 1000 J of heat?

1ml = 1g

Note, because water's density = 1g/mL, 250 mL = 250 gQ = m c ΔT1000 J = 250(4.19) (x - 10)x - 10 = 1000 /250/4.19x - 10 = 0.95x = 10 .95 oC

• Ravi puts a 100-g block of lead, heated to 155C, in 100 mL of water at 19C. The water temperature rises to 24C. Assuming no energy has been lost to the surroundings, calculate the specific heat capacity of lead.
