Dear Parishioners, Our Parish Mission is only one week away. Have you blocked out your schedule? Have you made plans to attend? Our Mission will begin on Sunday, November 13th, at 7:00 p.m., and continue each evening with a concluding Mass on Thursday, November 17th. Our mission leader is Father Pete Schavitz, a Redmptorist priest whom you may remember from the mission he led here at the parish 20 years ago. If you are asking yourself, what is a mission? Think of a Parish Mission like a small parish retreat. It is a time for the whole parish to come together to reflect upon God’s word, to renew our faith, and to pray with open hearts and hands. As you make your plans, for those families with small children there will be childcare for infants through the age of 5. Last week Thursday, our church hall was filled for our October Heritage Luncheon. The food was prepared by a wonderful team of volunteers who served several varieties of chili. One of the things people talk most about at these lunches is how great it is to get together. If you have not attended one yet, mark your calendar for Thursday, December 1st, beginning at 11:30 am. As we celebrated Halloween this past week, our parking lot was full to the brim with cars and kids. This event provides a safe place for kids to gather and is fun for everyone. Not only were kids dressed in their costumes, but many parents went to great detail to decorate their cars. Many thanks to our 8th Graders and their parents who traditionally organize this event every year. It takes a lot of organizing to make this happen and many volunteers as well. Many thanks to all who helped out. I would ask for your prayers for our 2nd Graders as they draw near to making their first confession on Saturday, November 12th. For the past several weeks they have been preparing to receive this sacrament of God’s mercy, and it is another step that draws them closer to their First Holy Communion. Preparing the child for First Reconciliation gives the whole family the opportunity to reflect on the meaning of sin and forgiveness, and it can motivate the whole family to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation as well. Please keep these young men and women in your prayers. Please mark your calendars for our Advent by Candlelight, which is to take place on Sunday, December 4th. This is a special evening for women to become renewed and refreshed before the Christmas rush begins. This is an opportunity to relax and refocus on the season of Advent – a wonderful time of waiting and anticipation. In an elegant atmosphere, lit only by candlelight, guests enjoy a delightful dinner. The program includes uplifting Scripture readings, music and reflections focused on the Advent season. Check the bulletin for more details. Msgr. Brier

Baseball Service Award

The CYC Sports Department celebrated its 60th Sports Dinner, as well as the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Archdiocese of St. Louis’ youth department, on Thursday, October 27th. Along with the Archbishop and many honored guests, our own Tony Pozzo was presented the Baseball Service Award for South County.

This is a great honor not only for Tony, but for Queen of All Saints Parish. It reminds us all of the many dedicated coaches and volunteers who so freely give of their time. Please join me in extending to Tony and to the Queen of All Saints Activities Association our congratulations and gratitude for receiving this honor.

The Mission Committee is requesting parishioner assistance with donated food items for the Mission (cookies, cupcakes, brownies, pies, muffins, vegetable trays, cheese cubes, fruit trays, etc.). Donated items should be in a disposable pan that you will not need back. Items can be home-baked or store-bought. Donations may be dropped off in the church hall before or after the 5:00 p.m. Mass on November 12 (Saturday), and November 13 (Sunday), before and after all Masses. Book of the Dead

The Book of the Dead will be in the main lobby of the church during the entire month of November. You are welcome to add names at any time during this month. We also hope everyone will remember the names that are in the book in their prayers. The names of the persons you write in the book do not have to be members of the parish, and it is not limited to someone who passed away this year. In fact, you can repeat someone’s name from a previous year.

Vocation Team Update

As we approach National Vocation Awareness Week, November 6-12, 2016), let us remember and pray for all priests: Prayer for the Perseverance of Vocations O God, You have constituted Your only-begotten Son supreme and eternal Priest for the glory of Your majesty and the salvation of mankind; grant that those whom He has chosen ministers and dispensers of His mysteries, may be found faithful in fulfilling the ministry they have received. Amen.

Advent Blanket Making – Help “Warm Up” Saint Louis

Does it get more and more difficult to find the true meaning of Christmas among all the advertisements, wish lists, and never-ending shopping trips? Are you looking for a meaningful way for you and your family to begin this Advent season? Advent blanket-making began four years ago on the first Sunday of Advent at QAS after hearing about a homeless man who froze to death on our city’s streets. Since that time, QAS parishioners have come together and hand-made close to 200 fleece blankets that were then delivered to St. Patrick’s Center to help protect those in need from the bitter cold. We are offering the opportunity again this year to start your Advent in an impactful way. Sunday, November 27, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. the QAS gym will be open to all who would like to participate in this project. Entire families have worked on their blanket together, mothers and daughters, groups of friends, even Girl Scout troops. And this is a great community service activity for seventh and eighth graders with their confirmation sponsors and also high schoolers!

From St. Patrick’s Center: “I wanted to thank QAS for making the blankets for our clients and those in St. Louis who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. These blankets are given to clients and those living on the streets to help protect them from the cold and other elements.”

You can start looking now for your fleece at any fabric store - two pieces of fleece, two yards each, one in a solid color and the other in a coordinating print, or both in solid colors. Bring the fleece, some good, sharp scissors (important!), a ruler if you have one, and possibly something to cushion your knees, as this is an on-the-floor project. We will show you a very easy way to make a warm fleece blanket in just a little over an hour. If you are unable to come on November 27, you are welcome to make your blanket on your own and drop it off at the Parish Office where we will pick it up before delivering downtown – or contact us to come pick it up from your home. If you need to know how to make the blankets, please send an email to the address below. We will be happy to send the instructions to you. Let’s start this Advent season off with warm hearts, knowing we will be helping others stay warm this winter! To ensure we have adequate space and supplies, please RSVP at [email protected].

If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how does God’s love abide in him?

Saint Vincent DePaul Society

Christmas Sharing Program

The St. Vincent DePaul Society is starting the “Christmas Sharing Program.” This program is a two-fold program consisting of the Adopt-A-Family and the Giving Tree. This year will be the same personal program as last year. If you adopt a family you will be purchasing for a specific family with a wish list provided by the family. The Giving Tree items will also be a specific wish for a designated recipient. Family wish lists for the Adopt-A-Family program will be available in the Church Hall after all the Masses starting this weekend, October 22 & 23, and every weekend until all families are adopted, but no later than November 12 & 13. If you need a family wish list mailed to you or you need more information on the program, please contact Steffanie Crowley at 846-8151 or email to [email protected]. The Giving Tree will be set up in the main lobby of the Church the weekend of November 19 & 20. At that time you will be able to take one or more gift tags off the tree, listing the specific item to purchase for the designated individual. These tags will range from clothing and toys to household items or gift cards. This year all UNWRAPPED gifts for both parts of the program will be collected in the Church Hall the weekend of December 9, 10 & 11. We will be in the hall Friday, December 9, from Noon – 6:00 p.m., Saturday, December 10, from 8:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and Sunday, December 11, from 7:00 a.m. – Noon. Members of St. Vincent DePaul Society will deliver all gifts starting at 1:00 p.m.

6. Because there are no assigned tables. You can come with a group, come as a couple, come stag, but do come!!! It’s a FUN night of mixing and mingling with old and new friends!

7. Because you don’t HAVE to gamble! Come to socialize, eat, drink, and maybe bid on an item or two!

8. Because our Parish Priests, School Principal, and Director of Religious Education will all be there! Shouldn’t you be too???

9. Because the food and drinks are FREE with your $35 advance admission fee!!!

10. Because it’s a GREAT way to support Queen of All Saints!
