November, 2006 Wahdat, Islamic Education Center Newsletter November 2006 (Shawwal 1427) QUDS DAY IN HOUSTON The Day of Quds has been designated as the day of the oppressed of the world. In a time when the voiceless have no means to express themselves, it was none other than Imam Khomieni who declared the last Friday of the Holy month of fasting as the day to sound these suppressed voices. By doing such we are performing the function of the contemporary Zainab (SA); for without Zainab, the struggle and sacrifice of Al-Hussain would have been subdued and relegated to the extreme pages of historical books. Today, the oppressed people of Palestine are at the forefront of the struggle against global domination by usurper regimes the head of which is the Zionist Israel. This illegal and inhumane entity recognizes no limits to its brutality and kills and tortures innocents daily. The Houston community came together on October 20 th at the Israeli consulate and made the world know that we will not remain silent and that we are witness to the crimes committed by the Zionists. EID SA’EED Al-Hamdulillah, the Holy month of Ramadhan was a busy one this year as it is every year for the community. The IEC conducted daily programs including recitation of the Holy Qur’an, Du’aa, Munajaat and tafseer and provided iftaar to hundreds of mo’mineen for the entire month. This was made possible by the generous contributions of the selfless members and we pray that Allah (SWT) rewards them handsomely in the hereafter. The community was also witness to inspirational speeches by the youth. On a daily basis they delivered provocative and insightful words that were appreciated by all. (You can read a selected number of speeches in the Haqq youth section of the Wahdat inside). The month concluded on a high note as the awe- inspiring crescent was easily sighted (Monday, October 23 rd ) in the horizon by the excited crowd from the top of the IEC garage. As with any program of this magnitude where a myriad number of volunteers are giving time and expending effort to serve the community, there is always room for improvement. The community members are urged to provide feedback and suggestions for improvement for next year, insha-Allah. We would like to take this opportunity to specially thank the tireless efforts of the kitchen staff who provided iftaar for all of us in an efficient and timely fashion. Thanks also go to the dedicated volunteers in all areas including parking, security, children’s classes, cleaning the dining halls and Majlis hall preparation. We hope that your fasts are accepted by Allah (SWT) and that you had a very joyous eid al-fitr. May He (SWT) keep you safe and healthy throughout the year. Wassalamu alaikum, IEC Board of Directors. Paradise Cemetery Update IEC is in the process of purchasing 100 burial sites at Paradise Cemetery. Each site will cost $85 per month for 2 years or $95 per month if you choose a site where you can place a head stone. The cemetery has designated a separate section for use by the Muslim community and most of the Muslims buried there thus far are Shi’a. The community owns over 150 burial sites and currently 75 mo’mineen are buried there. The cemetery provides transportation, Ghusl (body washing) facilities, and Salatul-janazah facilities. The cost of the burial sites has been increasing steadily every year. In 2000 the cost for each site was $1000 and currently stands at $2000. All mo’mineen are requested to sign up and purchase a site for your loved ones as early as possible. May Allah help us in fulfilling this important Islamic duty. Please contact any of the IEC board members or brs. Inam Naqvi or Askari Naqvi (832-715-4225) for more information. Also see flyer inside with map and contact info. MOULANA MUSHARRAF HUSSAINI Moulana Musharraf Hussaini (third from the left above) will be with us in the absence of our resident Alim Moulana Shabbiri. He will serve the community as he has done in the past as a visiting scholar. We welcome and appreciate Moulana Hussaini’s dedication to Islam. Moulana Shabirri is due to return in the first week of December, insha-Allah.

QQUUDDSS DDAAYY IINN HHOOUUSSTTOONN

The Day of Quds has been designated as the day of the

oppressed of the world. In a time when the voiceless have no

means to express themselves, it was none other than Imam

Khomieni who declared the last Friday of the Holy month of

fasting as the day to sound these suppressed voices. By doing such we are performing the function of the contemporary Zainab (SA); for without Zainab, the struggle

and sacrifice of Al-Hussain would have been subdued and

relegated to the extreme pages of historical books.

Today, the oppressed people of Palestine are at the forefront of

the struggle against global domination by usurper regimes the head of which is the Zionist

Israel. This illegal and inhumane entity recognizes no limits to its brutality and kills and tortures

innocents daily. The Houston community came together on October 20th at the Israeli consulate and made the world know that we will not remain silent and that we are

witness to the crimes committed by the Zionists.

EID SA’EED Al-Hamdulillah, the Holy month of Ramadhan was a busy one this year as it is every

year for the community. The IEC conducted daily programs including recitation of the Holy Qur’an, Du’aa, Munajaat and tafseer and provided iftaar to hundreds of mo’mineen for the entire month.
