Metropolitan tiles are “Environment Friendly” The body composition includes some fi red production scrap. Metropolitan tile does not produce off-gassing associated with some fl ooring products. Metropolitan Ceramics products have a long life cycle, and when properly cared for will meet the most demanding applications with years of quality service. Metropolitan tile is an excellent material for absorbing and retaining heat and therefore performs well as part of a passive solar heating design for both fl oor and wall applications.

By ANSI Standard Specification A137.1 Metropolitan Ceramics’ unglazed tile is classified as quarry tile, however, the exceptional technical characteristics noted enable them to be used in virtually any application suitable for ceramic tile. Metropolitan Ceramics’ unglazed tile meets both the ASTM standards, the ANSI A137.1 specification for quarry tile, and Metropolitan internal requirements as listed.

PERFORMANCE SPECIFICATION Installation & Specifi cationFor installation guidelines refer to the Tile Council of North America Inc. handbook for Ceramic Tile Installation. A typical specifi cation to assure the use of Metropolitan Ceramics’ un-glazed tile on your next job should be written as follows: Ceramic tile shall be SOMERSETTM, QUARRYBASICS®, METRO TREAD®, ECO QUARRYTM, METRO®E.S.Q, METRO®PAVERS or DOWN TO EARTHTM

as manufactured by Metropolitan Ceramics, Canton, Ohio. The body composition shall be of the fi nest shale and clays producing a uniformly dense body with slip-resisting texture. Color shall be: Size shall be: Patterns: As per drawing. Grout: Compatible color, as approved by architect. Test results shall be available upon request. For best installation results, we recommend that the following be in-cluded in the specifi cations: Nominal 3/8” joint widths. Mix tile from several cartons for best shading during in-stallation. Do not use any product containing Hydrofl uoric acid to clean the fl oor since it will attack both grout and tile. Cleaning & MaintenanceThe secret to a successful tile main-tenance program is to begin with a clean surface. It should be the respon-sibility of the tile installer to thor-oughly clean and remove all the grout residue and the dulling fi lm inherent in the installation process. After initial clean up, a period should be allowed to permit proper curing - 28 days for maximum grout hard-ness.
